General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Computer recycling for money
« on: September 20, 2013, 01:51:08 PM »
There's conversations around this topic on here if you look hard enough.

If you're going for the scrap value, it's a lot of work, and if you have the time may be worth it. You'll get some gold and platinum out of them. But that's about it.

If you're going to part them out, you'll find that it's decent money, but you've gotta have the connection to move it more than likely. Computer guys don't typically pay top dollar for used because the technology moves so fast. You can get this year's hot model next year for half the price.

I was shocked that I got that bid within minutes of opening the auction. Wish I could change the text in the body of the listing, I'd probably get a few more looks... At least wouldn't look like a tool!

are you talking about porn? Typically only enjoyed for minutes at a time..   :)

True, but at least it's an offer!

Craigslist / Re: Good article on how to post on Craigslist

Pictures is what I have the most trouble with. In my space, I just don't have the room to move around and it's all fluorescent lighting, not the most appealing.. Also, my back room is wood paneling, because the guy who had this space before me was like 80.. Big stuff sucks to take picture of in the store. I've got a really nice dining room table set for sale. It's beautiful, but I can't take a decent picture to give it justice.

I have not bartered, but I would think that you put yourself a disadvantage by listing what you think it's worth. Is it not better to leave a price off of it and see what offers come in? I might have been interested in the boat, but if he thinks it's worth $500, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of sending an offer because I know right off the bat that we're not going to make a deal.

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist stats?

Around here there are people who just sit and monitor craigslist all day.. like they have nothing better to do. I don't remember it being this bad in Florida. They do anything they can to flag it seems.

I've done some focus panel stuff through gigs. It's about an hour phone call, or you go in and spend an hour talking about a particular topic. Kinda fun, easy $50 when you're in a pinch.

Craigslist / Re: Will You Take Cashier's Checks, Money Orders & PayPal
« on: September 20, 2013, 11:51:25 AM »
I've got Paypal Here, credit card swipe and a BofA credit card swipe. Got the BofA because they give me a free checking account with it. I use the Paypal as a backup. BofA's rates are better.. I really clean up at the flea market when I say I can take credit or debit cards too!

Not a bad idea, but I think that when you do that, you open yourself up for ghosting and flagging.

yeah I was looking at autoposters too and I'm not interested in getting into trouble with craigslist. I just want to know what people are using for search terms when looking for dining room tables, for example.

Craigslist / Re: Where to do you meet?
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:12:28 PM »
When I meet people away from the shop, it's always in a parking lot during business hours.. I don't like strange people knowing where I live. I'm sure nothing will ever happen, but still.. You just never know.

It's crazy with trailers around here too! It's like people don't think they lose value over time!
