Picker's Paradise / Dumpster Diving

Does anyone else do it?

Most of the time I'm going for an uncommon box shape I need for eBay shipping, but if I see a dumpster that's sporting some real goods I might take a look too.

General Storage Auction Talk / Do vintage electronics sell for you ?
« on: December 13, 2013, 08:40:37 AM »
I've been picking receivers and amps from the late 70s through 80's of late and doing OK with them.

Anyone else doing well with this kind of electronics?

Good Luck MovieMan. I hope you hit a good one. We need something around here to talk about...

Well, there's always news from France (if that's where it's coming from...and I doubt it).

Meanwhile, I went to 2 of 3 auctions on Dec 11, 2013....only one locker worth mentioning. It was a 5 x 10 with a mattress on the left faced by a LARGE flatscreen...maybe a 6'. Started out decent enough and went to $300 range where it slowed down to two buyers. Happy to say an auction friend of two years (who isn't a hog) got it for $325 while the blowhard who was competing bowed out.  TV probably works as there were three boxes of DVDs showing and this indicated to me the former owner was a TV fan who probably just fell on hard times.

I went to zero of 3 possible auctions on Dec 12, 2013. Just busy doing things that made money rather than using up time on the usual garbage lots we mostly see in my area.

Three possible auctions today very close to home so might hit a couple of them.

Bought my last locker August 27, 2013 and that was at a piece by piece auction where I bought several items from the locker one at a time and then decided to go for the rest of the locker based on what I had bought and the fact we could walk in and look at the entire locker (without touching anything).

Other than that, I have been going to auctions (in a very reduced radius) but haven't bought one since then. Picking on the other hand remains quite good.

Going to auctions this week (Dec 11, 12, 13) more for the socializing than anything else, but if a super locker pops up I'll be ready.  ;D

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Does anyone use Pinterest as a sales tool?

Jeez, you're really getting desperate for new topics.

In the area of storage auctions, I personally feel there is very little that is new under the sun, or that hasn't been
discussed multiple times. Plus, I believe there are fewer people interested in them overall.

Upon FM's request.....

Here it is, though for the most part the discussion on the whole forum for the last month or so has been SLIM except for news from Texas and North Carolina, with the occasional sprinkle from the northwest.

Have at it auction buyers !  ;D

eBay / eBay, UPS, Postal Service
« on: December 04, 2013, 10:20:52 AM »
I just bought an electronics part on eBay from a seller in Michigan (big company).

I got an email which gave me a tracking number which took me to a UPS site subset page.

The tracking number showed me three lines that showed UPS picked it up, delivered it to the post office and from there it comes on to me.  This is call UPS Mail Innovations.

****

I did a google search on this and it took me to a UPS Q&A page.  Here are the first two Q & A's :

Frequently Asked Questions

At UPS Mail Innovations, we continually strive to provide the information our customers need to make smart decisions about their mailing services. Explore the answers below. For additional information, call 1.800.500.2224.

Q. When will I receive my mail piece?

A. UPS Mail Innovations inducts your mail piece into the U.S. Postal Service within 48 hours of processing. The U.S. Postal Service will then deliver the mail piece within three to five days, on average.

Q. Why does the Post Office have my UPS Mail Innovations package?

A. UPS Mail Innovations works with the U.S. Postal Service, providing the pick-up, processing, and interim transportation of mail, with final delivery being made by domestic and international postal services.

****

Anyone else ever see this happen?  Seems to work (UPS isn't going to make any major mistakes) and when I actually get the thing in the mail I'll update this post with the results.

Holy Crap it's cold !

Last Sunday I went hiking in shorts and a t-shirt and today and the next two days it's going to
get down to 25 overnight with highs of only 50 during the day.

This may not be a big deal for people in some states, but here it's unusual.

The central valley of California is responsible for something like 85% of the nation's food supply for things like
oranges, limes, strawberries, and other similar crops, and while things like walnuts, almonds  and strawberries have already been harveted, the citrus crops may be in trouble.  Such is the life of the grower.

Meanwhile, the snowy tv shots of the plains, upper northwest snow storms and ice storms elsewhere still make me glad I'm out west.

Yeah, probably.

Nope, there are others who haven't watched the duck show, me included.

I also haven't watched any of the storage wars shows of any variation for about 6 months. Right now I'm getting ready to watch season 5 of Breaking Bad. I'm behind the times, but "binge watching" a series like that is a treat. No waiting a week to see what happens next. I usually watch 3 or 4 episodes at a time of shows like that.

The old man looks like a geriatric fool!

We all get there. Give yourself another 35 to 40 years and you'll have a different perspective (and the store will be a distant memory, if you can remember it at all  ;D).

Well? Did it work?

It looks like it. I haven't had the message for a few days now. I clicked on the torn sheet of paper in the address bar and the paper turned blue. I have left it that way and the error message hasn't popped up, so guess that was it.

Thanks for the solution !

General Storage Auction Talk / Bitcoins...near price of gold
« on: November 30, 2013, 01:05:00 PM »
I mentioned bitcoins in another post and decided to do some research on them.

Here are two articles about the "currency".  The first one is a general article and the 2nd is about the price in November, 2013. Compare that price to what it was in January, 2013 (both prices are in the 2nd article).

Also, here's the link to a story about how a fellow threw away a hard drive that had a lot of bitcoin credit stored on it.
