Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: My First Auction

I plan on going on an auction run Monday....4 storage faciliites, really nice indoor ones with climate controlled units...

Hey Jose, good to see you are going to get to an auction. Please be sure to let us know about the crowds, lkr numbers and of course ESPECIALLY the prices so we can get a cross-the-country idea of what's happening.

Now some regulars are chiming in...will wait for some more of the regular posters and then make a composite of all the answers and post the actual sale prices...it's for fun remember, so don't be disappointed if you are off a bit (or a lot !).

A good way to end March.

Thanks for joining in !  ;D

Never say never !

Yep, after the big bid busts you came out gold on these two!  Nice to get those surprises now and again....keeps us going. As to mattresses, I think the ones we all hate are those that show definite wear, were cheap to begin with, stained etc. The good ones I will make an effort on, but when that door opens and I see 3 or 4 complete sets that are just aching to go to the dump that I shy away usually.

A biz going out of biz is sad for them but can be good for us. The used office furn biz is a real biz in many good sized commuities but there still seems to be a market for us in that area as most of us will move that stuff out cheap to get rid of the bulk. In your area you should move it fast.

Congrats on the good scores !

the bomb = 300
the dump = 100

Thanks for the guess Jose...may take a few more days to get 2 or 3 more answers then we'll see how good at pricing our fellow buyers are !

They are apparently only in Atlanta now...that's not THAT far from Chicago....closer than California anyway.

Anytime there's a new member popping up I take a quick look at their profile.

I have done this enough to see the following:

Unusual alphabet combinations for names
email addresses that end in the following   @jocurimultiplayeronline.com

I have a feeling some of these folks are going to rise up and the spam is going to fly like crazy.

Another giveaway that these folks are not for real are the occasional links in their sig lines or elsewhere (in their profiles) that lead to generic web based information pages about a variety of topics.

I'm telling you that a large number of recent (last couple of weeks) members are phoney as all get out...of course this is only my opinion. Your opinion may be different.

Lot's of questions, where's the answers?

The answers my friend are blowing in the wind.

Well, it might be a nice complement (color wise) to the item described in the thread link below, and the phrase "where the sun don't shine" comes to mind also for that thread where a flashlight might come in handy.

Forgot to mention some of tonight's realism...and NOT realism.

In two of the last 3 episodes Barry has just TOSSED stuff out of the locker. This seems for effect to me as even a real collector would take a little more care.  The rest of that pile story I would like to see....I don't believe Barry hauls the crap away himself, nor do I believe he hires anyone. I still think the show's producers take care of all that. Could they come to my aid ?

So, the ivory sold at auction. What about the rhino horn items...they were supposed to add up to 5 or 6K if I remember correctly.

Just too many unanswered questions, and it wouldn't take that long to answer them.

I missed last week's episode, but tonight's (March 30, 2011) hitting the realism button again.

Too bad they didn't show the actual purchase prices on all six of the bag-lady lockers.

Dave hit it good (AGAIN) but when you come right down to it, this was a perfect example of JUST PLAIN LUCK being a big factor. You can't see everything of course and even when you do buy a quality locker for the furiture, electronics showing, there's no guarantee there will be good jewelery (gold/silver).

The locker I bought that yielded a Ruger 10-22 and a Ruger P89 only cost $169 and those two items were buried on the back wall. I bid what I wanted on the locker and JUST LUCKED OUT (not as big as Dave of course). By the way, this was months before the tv shows started.
