You're sending him on a 280 plus mile trip (ONE WAY) from Pittsburg to Allentown. Back to geography class ?

Darrell is definately my favorite. He knows the business, is the only one that seems to stand up to Dave, and even helps out Jarred on occation. Plus, I love his "Wild Factor" approach, even though 9 times out of 10 your gonna get burned this way in reality.

He's "wild" all right, but I think his catch phrase is "wow factor". But then, I could be wrong; it would be the first time though!  ;D

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: income tax refunds
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:47:15 AM »
The income tax return suggestion has been made in my area for years and is probably valid especially when tied into the tv shows as a GUARANTEED way to make at least $1k on EVERY locker you buy.  ;D

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Weekend Auctions?
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:45:32 AM »
In my area (Central California) there are very few weekend auctions...maybe 2 or 3 places accounting for about 4 to 6 auctions a year. I think ...around here anyway... the property managers realize the big buyers of lockers are people who often sell on Saturday and Sunday, so the crowd would be smaller than during the week.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Sports Cards
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:43:29 AM »
I once had a 18" square box of sports cards at the flea market and I know next to nothing about them and usually won't do much more than a quick flip through.

Anyway a guy asked how much for the box and I told him to make me an offer. I was floored when he said $100, but I stayed cool and just said..."That's fine."

There must have been something good in there, but I doubt it was Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle.

******

Another time I put a reproduction Babe Ruth card in a glass display case (Oh, it MUST be valuable) and a guy who looked like he hadn't gotten past the 6th grade was ELATED when I only asked $1 for it. YES, it was a reproduction clearly dated 2004 or so.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Latest Cool Stuff I've Found in Units!
« on: February 15, 2011, 08:28:26 AM »
I have come to the conclusion that teacher is like the TV shows.  He hauls the bad stuff while the camera is charging, then shows us what's left.   :D

I am sure you make a profit teacher, but I wonder what you have to put in to get the kind of products you do.  I know my money roll probably can't handle what units with some of these items (if they were in plain view) would cost.
Orlando
He buys 10 to12 lockers a month (this info from him in another thread); don't know about the dollars he spends.

HEY, shouldn't you be WORKING on the computer instead of cruising this forum? Maybe you're on a 10 minute break !

Once again they mentioned (during a segment on junk lockers) that THEY GET ONE GOOD LOCKER OUT OF EVERY 10 OR 11 THEY BUY.

If only the newbies would REMEMBER THAT !

Auction Hunters eBay seller name revealed...

On the "Behind the Hunt" special Haff was shown typing in an item description. Their eBay seller's name is :
Auctionhunters.

At the time he was posting their feedback number was 151. When I looked them up as the show was running their actual feedback number was.....151!

Check it out. Their last feedback was early July, 2010. Guess they are too busy making the tv series !

Nope, this wasn't the finale....it was a special with new footage and some "lessons" in how to be an auction hunter. Kind of like these forums ? !

I Tivo-ed this since I was out at live broadcast time and have worked my way through about the first hour. Not all that impressed, but some of the ideas I've used myself. My main thought is that the only REAL way to learn about this biz is to JUST DO IT.

You can't really give a lesson in how to read a locker, how to read the competition, etc. I think it just grows on you with time, success and error.

They're just getting ready to show some of the "failure" lockers they've bought in the past. That should be refreshing since the first 4 episodes a few months ago show a gun in each episode.

Their new season starts in April and they're going on the road....to Flordia.

So, the two series continue....

Mr. A....

Your post #10 is really interesting; can't get how this guy blames it on you; you didn't want to buy his stuff; he's mad at himself for jumping off the cliff.

Yep, he might bid some people up and then get stuck with the locker especially if you inform all the old-timers.

What an idiot he is.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: profiling a locker
« on: February 14, 2011, 02:08:35 PM »
I'm equal opportunity!  I have bought crappy lockers from EVERY ethnic group!   ;D

Me too...at least once and sometimes more than once, but I'm careful when or if I do it.

The following comes to mind:

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained"
"Bigger is better" (I don't believe that...marketing pros been selling this idea for years)

A little off for this topic, but "racial" or "demographic" profiling comes into play from a size standpoint too. If you have had bad luck with lockers from any particular ethnic group, if you buy a larger locker from them you will simply end up with more trash to haul away.
