General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Bootleg Movies?
« on: September 05, 2013, 07:48:34 PM »
I don't sell bootlegs. Not worth the trouble when you can't resell legal DVDs for more than $2-$3.. Keep 'em or trash 'em would be my advice.

I didn't think to check ebay for boxes.. I just placed an order with uline, which isn't bad pricing, but they charge shipping which puts the cost of each box around $.80 ea. for a 12x8x6 adjustable height

I do flat rate shipping, and still have quite a few free shipping options. What I've noticed is that when I relist an item, ebay wants me to drop the price, and that puts me under my shipping cost, nevermind product cost. I have Hot Wheels cars up for $4.49, which is basically $4 for shipping and packaging and .49 for the car (free shipping).. eBay wants me to drop the price to "get more views".. which would cause me to lose money.

eBay / Re: Do You Have A Niche? To Succeed On Ebay You Need Repeat Customers
« on: September 05, 2013, 01:57:26 PM »
While I do agree that a niche will help succeed in any realm of sales. I also think there is something to be said to market yourself as "you never know what we'll have". It works for the thrift stores, why can't it work for ebay?

I guess the real question is.. do people like browsing online like they do in thrift stores?

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Meet the Dotsons in Person !

Around these parts, auctioneers just give a time to the first auction and the rest are "to be followed". This way, they report legally that the lockers have to be paid up by, say 9 a.m., or else it can legally be sold. Of course, the owner has until auction time to settle the debt. One chain locally puts 2 hours between auctions.. what a waste of time!

Someone should consider offering these storage show outcasts to do their own show.. Maybe traveling auctions with Hester as the auctioneer..

As for this David guy.. don't like him.. He's not quirky or funny.. He's British..

I haven't seen episode 2 of this last week's shows. However, I did see in the first show, Victor Rzozkzkzkznanski in the opening sequence. So, I don't think he got the axe. However, Moe was nowhere to be found. Jenny asked Mary where Moe was and she replied, "I don't know, must be in surgery." I'm paraphrasing.. but it definitely seemed like she was trying to get off the subject.

Craigslist / Using Craigslist Community Sections To Advertise
« on: September 04, 2013, 11:55:23 AM »
Everybody seems pretty comfortable with putting up single item listings on Craigslist to sell products. Also, using the garage sale section to advertise an upcoming sale. Around my area, they police Craigslist pretty well. As a business, or a regular garage sale, I can't put an ad on the garage sale section without it being flagged most times.

In the upper left corner, the first section is Community. I've asked folks locally if this section has worked well for advertising their business or regular garage/warehouse sales. It's been hit or miss. How has it been for you? I've been posting an ad here and there and I haven't seen much from it, but then again, it's the middle of the week.

eBay / Re: Which is better?

I never offer free shipping in my listings. Many people see the listed price without checking the shipping charges. This can make it seems like your item is going for less than others.

Good Point!

The great thing about debating yourself is you always win!

I think I may change my listing philosophy. I like listing for what the last one sold for. May give that a try!

eBay / Which is better?

I'm having a debate with myself while it's slow in my store.. Is it better to start an auction off with a low price and charge or shipping, or higher price and free shipping?

The past few days I've listed stuff with free shipping, but setting my starting price higher thinking I'd get good results, not so much..

I know it's all about what you're putting up there, but I see similar items sell daily and mine get glossed over..
