Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we all have one.

I think the biggest mistake being made in this thread is buying into the rhetoric. Let people have their opinions.

It's performance that counts and each of us can see how it works for us at the auctions.

eBay / Re: Anyone have success selling clothes on ebay?
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:28:24 AM »
The only clothing I have sold on eBay are: Movie crew jacket for a Star Wars movie and a leather, fringed western woman's jacket.  Both really nice ones.

My concern on clothing is that it CAN NOT BE RETURNED. I describe them well showing size labels and have a seamstress friend measure them as well and include those measurements.

This prevents "buyer's remorse" due to a less than perfect fit or feel, and truth-be-known, just as some people buy (and wear) something from a store and then return it...this could happen on eBay too.

Hey auctionNinja, how many units have you bid on?'
How many units have you won?
How many units have you trippled your investment on? or maybe even more then trippled?
How many units have you cleaned out dead rats and garbage from?
How many units have you cleaned out in below 0 degress or in rain or in 100 + degrees?

If your answers is a donut to just one of them, you have nothing to say about it. Because you have not even gotten your feet wet.

Talk is cheap, doing it in a forum is even cheaper.
Come back when you have 10+ units and done it non stop for at least 6 months. But until then, just hush it! your opinion do not count unless you can prove your self.

Mr. A..... see the thread link below. Your questions are answered there. http://storageauctionforums.com/index.php?topic=625.msg1436#new

Welcome to you. Posting this after reading your posts in the looky-loo thread, but you are still welcome. Let us know how your first few locker buys turn out.

You have no clue about me.  And I find that refreshing.  ;D
If I were you, I wouldnt worry about me.  You have better things to do.....atleat I would hope. ::)

Yep, we're clueless all right.  People are just commenting about your attitude. If you read a good number of the comments in several forums you should see that people here are for the most part a pleasant group and there is a difference between complaining (or belly aching) about looky-loos, bidders without a clue (too) and serious contenders who have a head on their shoulders.

You've made it abundantly clear which category you fall into now put a couple of years under your belt and all will be fine.

Well, let me clear some mis-statements...

He is a She; Yes, I'm in Texas, originally from CA, and I have NEVER said "Yee-Haw" to ANYTHING in my life, no matter where I lived.  Now that I am in Texas, we say "Gig'em" when something good happens! and WHOOP when it is AWESOME!!

Kathy

So was this a whoop of a locker ?

Actually what I say when I find a good item in a locker is "YES !" along with a clinched fist and an active little jig !

Where in California did you live ?

By the way somewhere on the forums the 1,000 post went up a few minutes ago.

General Storage Auction Talk / Free electronics drop-off
« on: February 01, 2011, 05:18:23 PM »
In California there are often city or county run facilities where you can drop-off electronics like tvs, monitors and computer towers.

Also, the Goodwill stores here will accept those items.  This is great if you get an old computer tower that still takes floppy disks.

Also, my city has a place that buys up to 5 tvs or monitors a year and they pay by weight. I always take in the old projection tvs...a lot of particle board weight, but they pay for it !

Unfortunately, I think all three of these methods end up with stuff being taken in huge bulk to China where some child is put to work taking them apart for the gold, etc. Since there's lead and such in the old monitors, this is a bad thing too. Might come back to bite us in the butt.

*****

Sometimes school systems will take old computer stuff for computer repair classes if nothing else.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Latest Cool Stuff I've Found in Units!
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:23:06 AM »
Great score!

And how much did this unit go for, if i can ask that?

I'm pretty sure this is a compilation from maybe 12 units he said he bought in the last couple of weeks.

I get what you're saying, and I do get my stuff sold on eBay, it just cost me a percentage (typically 35% of what I have listed).  But, you seem to be averaging four units a month, and I'm trying to do 12-16, so I don't have the time to take care of all the small stuff myself.  I would rather pay somebody to put my stuff on eBay and do the things I enjoy doing like going through the boxes and listing and selling the "big stuff" on Craigslist!

Can you consistently buy 12 to 16 units a month, month in and month out?

My costs at eBay run at 10 to 12% because I list them myself.

More auctions for February has been made public.
Even 20 PODS containers are coming up for auction this month.

Does anyone in here have any thoughts on PODS??? they run on the same day as 2 other auctions.

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Revenue ?
« on: January 31, 2011, 08:12:07 PM »
There was one, but I'm not sure it's operating anymore. It was in a poor section of town, and I didn't even go shopping there that much. A lot of "China" imports and hardly any "garage sale" type vendors.

Yep, if you have the name of the tenant from the legal notice you can check them out in a number of ways. This is also true of course for businesses that go out of biz.

I got one locker with orthotic devices (paid $150....months ago). One nice aluminum case had a cast saw inside. I called the old owner about returning pictures and such and he commented..."Yeah, I'd like to get back that aluminum case with a little saw inside. It's not worth much."

Yeah, right. I had researched that before anything else. Goes for $1,100 new. I sold it on eBay for $400.

When the guy showed up to get his pics and look at some other items he might want to buy he asked about the aluminum box with the saw. I asked him what it was worth to him and his response was 25 bucks. I told him I had already sold it on eBay and he knew better than to ask for how much and I didn't tell him. Some former owners think we're dumb f***s because of the biz were in. Whose the dumb one now you jerk...lost your possessions lately?

What's it Worth?? / Stamps in a 3" thick book
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:16:00 PM »
Just starting to do research on this one so thought I'd take a shot here too.

This book is not full, but it has stamps (used and unused) going back to mid 1800's up to the 1960s.

I looked up two of the un-used ones on eBay and the completed prices showed in the $8 range for each.

Wondering if any of you have had experience with either single stamp sales or complete book sales.

I know a sheet of one stamp can be valuable. That is not the case here.  These are individual stamps fastened over pictures of stamps on a given page.

One of the pages is:  1940 stamps commemorating artists, composers and I forget the third one. 5 stamps of each, all cancelled.

The most intersting is of a bi-plane flying upside down.  :)  JUST KIDDING !

Any thoughts ?
