Other Forms of Selling / Re: Ebay vs. Flea Market
« on: February 06, 2012, 07:43:48 AM »

When I see people posting on these threads that they did $75 I have to cringe a bit. I would be very disappointed in any kind of recurring figure at that amount.

We cringe too.  ;D  Being one of the ones making that much. With Craigsl on still learning the ropes and we are selling low end stuff. As I said you get what you take. And what we have been getting in lockers, very low end stuff.  :P

The last 2-3 days I have killed craigslist, selling things like washing machines, dressers, house speakers, HDMI cords, vanitys etc. All hail tax season!

That is great.

Hope we start having the same results.

Flea Markets / Re: What a dick move!

Oh I sure hope it's not his wife! Cause we went for coffee and I got her number.  ;D

Not such a dick move after all.  ;).  Did you tell her you gave it to the guy that sold it to her. LOL.

At the Flea this weekend an every weekend vendor who deals in antiques, asked at the end of the day, "What are you getting for your water cans?" Told him and he bought one, told him could not diker was my Aunts. So after packing up went and asked him what he put on it? At first he did not want to tell me I said I am just curious. He marked it up $13. I don't care he is there all the time and he will most likely get it. did have a lady look at it...I laughed and said I will die if he sells it. LOL he didn't.

Flea Markets / Re: My adventures at the Antique/flea market

My booth at Southern Pickers is about 6x8 $60 month and 15%.

For that kind space and cost we could drive to Ga. once a month.  :D :D :D :D :D

Be cheaper than what we are finding.

Well sounds like I am getting a good deal.  I do not live in a large city 90,000 people, but large enough to make it worth while.

I was suprised at the traffic at this mall, and it was a Wed.   My only real fear at this point is the mall is so large people might get bored before they make it to my booth.  It is down stairs and there is about 200 booths.

I will see over the next 2 months if it is worth while.

Advertise your booth on CL. With pictures of new items.

I found an antique place on CL took me to her Face Book page. Had pictures of what she had with prices, I was just seeing what she was getting for old windows (We have 50). Selling at the Flea, cheaper than her but moving them.

wife and I walked the beach instead and then watched them rehearse making a Lincoln vs Zombie movie at Ft. Poluaski (however spell it).  Laughed our butts off at that.

Sounds like fun  ;D  Husband enjoyed the different crowd on Sat. Tight jeans, high heels, ect. LOL

At my flea if you have a reserved space you have to get there by 6 a.m. If you don't check in they sell your space to a "daily" vendor who is lined up ready to get it !

Anyway, picking seems to be working right now.

Thought ours was big, not so much. If we pay in advance our space is our space. The Market opens at 8:00 AM. Have not seen it sold out.

We do have a Flea like that. Sell your space if you don't show and then charge you a fee for not being there. Is one of the busiest in the area. A Drive for us. 35 miles away. but would take a hour to get there. Drive through three towns.

Picking is working the best for us too. Our yard sale returns are better than the lockers, Think it is just faster return on investment. And the equipment auction once a month really paying off. Husband buys lots at $5.00 each the first one he got we are still selling out of it. LOL  We say the gift that keeps on giving.  ;D. Got it from a fellow locker buyer.

Going to hit an Antique action house box lot auction this coming weekend. May pay off. Right down the road so want hurt to go see. Antiques we know a little bit about.

I got an interesting call today........weird prefix calls in, I answer it, and it starts out with a prerecorded message saying that they will list my craigslist ads for "as little as .04 an ad!"  I hung up.....prolly get more crap calls now.

I have noticed on other peoples Ad's they spell out the # or use the letter of the # to prevent spam phone calls. When I first saw it thought that looks like a spam, but then others posted why the number was that way. Just an idea.

Liandra that is great. Wished would were clearing that much. But we are just moving old inventory from previous lockers, and picks.

More Auctions this week. But just so inventory rich not sure we will go.  :(

We have some CL listing looking good for today.

And we do better with yard sales.  ??? Usually clear $200 - $300.  but that is once a month and if we add up what we have made over this past month at the Flea about the same.  But one Day compared to 3 days. I think I like the one day. LOL

That is great Movieman !!!!!!

Wow you get there early. Most of the vendors at ours are not there until later. And most I have seen know what they have. Not that I would know. Still working on the knowledge.  ???

 :D

Did miss one while setting up. Hand painted old window $5. Another vendor came up with it and asked what we would price it at I said at least $45. So he did. Husband said I saw that over there.  ::) In booth across from us. Oh well.

eBay / Re: More eBay fees?????
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:14:13 AM »
@money: We've been talking about antique malls. They want 10% plus rent!!

@moon: I really just started selling on ebay a few weeks ago, and I know I have a lot to learn. The shipping aspect was the toughest for me to figure out. I really like the free listings, simply because paying to list stuff I wasn't sure would sell was something that kept me from ebay for a long time.

We have an antique mall that charges 40% + Rent and the place is a dump.

With you on the shipping part. I add $3.00 to the shipping (Movieman suggestion) It has covered my butt on any miss calculation I may have done.

I try and do like Craigslstauction and use the flat rate, and I add the $3.00 to that too. But some things just don't fit.  :D
