Flea Markets / Weekend Sales (2-3-12)
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:04:50 PM »
Heading out to the Flea tomorrow. Van full truck full. Not taking the trailer this weekend.

Will be setting up the tables for the clothes. Got my fingers crossed that at least some of them walk away.

Will post the results no matter how bad.

We are not selling on Sunday.

eBay / Re: More eBay fees?????
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:59:44 PM »
Yeah that fee was there when I started selling. But I get 100 listings a month. Cost of doing business.

Sell anywhere else and the commission is higher. We pay 20% at a thrift (She just went up to 30%)

All other places charge 50% so 13% not to bad.

Doing storage auctions consistently is pretty much a "turn and burn" operation. You are just going to have to get use to selling things for the price that will move them instead of what the research says their value is. Remember, most of the items you sell are going to turn up again in your possession anyway if you continue to do storage auctions. I haved started to laugh at myself for getting upset about not getting the money I wanted out of a particular item, then have two more just like it show up in the next unit! The point being, if you really think you can make more money on certain items then go ahead and try to find the connections and outlets for selling those particular items because many of these items are going to show up again and again and again....Until then, just move that inventory and make that money!

yes We know funny how you get the repeat items over and over again. Not really upset with the price just the liberty of not a phone call to ask if she could sell them for that price. She gets more out of it than we can at the Flea or yard sales. So just ranting (Whining) about the slow sales.   :'(

Our CL sales not very good  ???  Think because of our area.

Liandra looking hard at that, you have been doing well. Most of our places are $200 and up. >:(

On the consignment side we were doing great and now not so much. Most of the consignment places charge way to much. We have been lucky only charges 20%. But now issues there.

So word of advice get references before you consign. When we were selling a lot we were at the store at least once a week. Now sales have slowed due to the code telling her she can't put stuff in front of the store. When all this happened offered to pick up some of the stuff we have down there to give her more room. NO NO I got it. Store looks good but she has taken some liberties of selling our stuff. Had a coffee table and end table set for $35. I was there when a customer only wanted the end tables, so she looked at me can I bargain? I shook my head, did not know he only wanted the end tables. She sold them for $10, so that is $8 to me.  ???.  Talked to her yesterday and she sold 2 of a set of 6 solid wood chairs for $10 a piece.  :o. Retail the chairs are $50 a piece.  She said well it got them out of the storage. We have other chairs there not as nice for $20 a piece.

We don't have the storage right now to go pull everything.....

Also some of our items are not visibly for sale. Have two book shelves (they were selling like hot cakes) the price tag is hidden on them and she has her smalls on them.

Also I notice that her prices went up right before the code got on to her, so I think both have caused the slow down in sales. We are going to pull out all together it will just take us some time.

So do some research before you consign.

Thinking about doing the face book thing. Tried to talk her into doing it.

And looking at a space at antique mall this weekend. (same place we do the Flea Market so convenient).

Good luck everyone.

Update picked up $78 from the thrift. So sells picking up, We lowered a price on a table. And she said things were getting better. People know she is open even without stuff outside. So I will stop Whining. LOL

Liandra that sounds great !!!!!  ;D
Glad they weren't like Todd's LOL

Auctions scarce the first of the month and we are still in a holding pattern. Having problems on the selling end. (Thrift our consignment having issues). We are actively looking for other avenues. Might even open our own.  :o  Have enough inventory to do it.  :P

And CL sales are not moving.  ::)

We are still getting stuff for free from neighbours and my brother. LOL Also picked up a nice sofa, bought a table and chairs from a CL ad they had a sofa trying to sell (to much for us to make a profit off of) they emailed and said we could have it for free. Had to give it to my daughter due to the thrift situation.

My .02 on the income tax money. Will bring out new noobies or there will be less units due to people being able to pay up.

Happy Hunting.

This was fun. Got a text right before 9:00 PM. Is item still available? yes, What kind of truck did it come out of? F150, Where is it located?

This is a $150 item.   Will you take $80 for it? NO.

Ended the text LOL

Flea Markets / Re: My adventures at the Antique/flea market
« on: February 02, 2012, 12:57:45 PM »
Pricing wise, our antique market wants $2.60/ sq. ft. + 10%. So a 10x10 booth would be $260/month. You are ahead of us there.  :)

Honestly, if ours was $90/month, we would jump on it, but at $260 we're not sure if they have the traffic to justify it.

Good luck!

Me too. Our current market is $2.00/sq. ft. + 10 %. We did find an indoor Flea market open 6 days a week for $150 a month. and you run your own booth when you want too. no rules of you have to be here so many days.  Really looking at that.

@ bulldogmom with you on the commitment of keeping it fresh and stocked. Why we still have not rented a permanent space in an antique mall . :D

What's it Worth?? / Re: China tea set ???????
« on: February 02, 2012, 08:42:13 AM »
Very pretty set. As for what the markings on the back say....do you have a chinese market or restaurant in your area that you frequent? I have taken items to our local chinese buffet for interpretation. They are always glad to help. :)

Never thought of that. Out here in the country forget about the things in the city. LOL :D

Might just hit them up.

We had one that said they were blind..... LOL

They usually come because of the price of item. anything under $100 we get no spam, Listed an item for $750 got about 10 spam emails.

C'mon Money, you CAN do it!!!  If I can use a smart phone, anyone can!  It certainly has its advantages.

LOL
Have a plain jane phone (need to upgrade). Think I could figure it out. But I feel I spend so much time researching on the computer and still none the wiser, Would use up all my data per month on research on one item.  LOL

Using my Aunt as my smart phone she has been a collector for years. She did not know about my tea set I have. Need to take picks and put on here, sure someone on here may know something about it. The stamp is in Chinese.  ???

Thanks for your vote of confidence.  ;D

I just learned what to look for in horses, match box cars, and silverware.  Soon I'll have to do a MoiveMan and use an ipad, mostly to keep track of what to look for :)

LOL yeah don't have the knowledge to even start using an ipad. (technology included LOL).

Money - I hope your aunt does stuff for you.  I try not to sell other people's items at the flea.  If they want me to sell their stuff (for free).  They best be helping me in some other way.  I just have too much work and not enough time/pay to do everything for free for friends / relatives.  Certain exclusions do apply ;)

She is paying me 20% commission we will go up if we sell a lot. And if I help her dig through her stuff she will trade items for the labour. Her stuff brought a lot of people to our booth too. So all good.
