Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at estate sales
« on: June 02, 2013, 12:06:42 PM »
I was lazy this weekend and didnt go out picking.

Went Thursday to try and get an antique milkshake mixer but by the time I got there hey figured out what they had and had it priced t retail.

Did find a Foredom rotary tool but its the old model.  Picked for $10.  Might get upwards of $75.
Sending out the copper pots to be fixed. Hope those turn out nice and can flip at a decent price.  Tho after cost I'm going to have some major money into them.

Sales have sucked last couple weeks so not to interested in buying.   I'm pretty shocked I haven't sold the router yet.  Priced to sell and not a nibble.   Same with air tools.   Brand new, never used Snap-On tools priced at 40% of retail and not one email.   Might have to lit on ebay for a larger market....

Oh well, off to hit some estate sales 50% off days and maybe take in some garage sales......

What's it Worth?? / Re: mystery stainless cart
« on: June 02, 2013, 11:43:46 AM »
cant find anything close to it. The company seems to be gone, but I listed what is marked on it below. Nope, thats not a typo, thats how its on there.

Wilson Mfg co
Columbus, Georgia
A Shampaine industry

Affiliated Hospital Products, Inc., purchases Shampaine Industries. (1967).
https://www.sos.mo.gov/BusinessEntity/soskb/Agent.asp?4010391

That confused me since that cart doesn't have he look of pre-1967.
But I found a lawsuit from 1985 listing Shampiane Inc, an AHP, inc affiliate; so they were acquired but remained an affiliate useing thier own name.

However, I can only find the Shampaine name on surgical equipment (beds, tables....) since the mid-80's

My assumption is at some point after the acquisition AFP only had Shampiane produce thier surgical line.

Really hard to research since all these companies kept buying out other companies.  Some merged, some ran as affiliate's, some broke into parts.
On top of it, they kept moving headquarters and manufacturing locations.

Best educated guess, but still a total guess, is the cart is from the 60's or early 70's....?

No.  But there is one auctioneer that his son comes and bids.
He is a serious buyer but I've always felt its wrong, conflict-of-interest.

It's a win-win.    Either he gets the locker or runs up the price so his company makes more.

They seem legit and are nice guys but just doesn't sit well with me....

The used medical śupply store sells them for between $50-$300.
Ones similar to the one show is listed at $150.
eBay has one at $200, another closer to this style for $99.

Apparently medical equipment doesnt holder its value.

 :D :D
It looks like a cart that a hospital would use in their nursery for newborns. All it's missing is the plastic bed that rests on top.

Nailed it.

Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Want To Go Bowling?
« on: June 01, 2013, 06:33:10 PM »
Always amazes me that people use the self defense argument on why they need guns.

Having been in a position where having a gun saved me......I consider it a pretty d*mn good argument.

As far as AR's.   yeah, not much of a need for home defence.  But I believe citizens should be armed to defend our county against threats, foreign or domestic.    We sure were cautious going into Iraq untill we confiscated citizens arms.  Then it was game on....
Every country is invaded at some point.  Remember, The Romans thought they could never be defeated. Where are they?

My biggest complaint on AR's debate.....
No one cares if someone has a mini-14 to hunt.    But an AR?   That's an assualt weapon!  Just for killing people!

It's the same thing.  Just one LOOKS all scary.

Without knowing the items you had I'd still say $150 isn't to bad.

You also have to remember a lot of people went out of town or had BBQs last weekend then a short work week so an extra day of work to catch up on.  Means this weekend they are lazy or catching up on things.
Equals low turn out.
At least that's the theory I'm going with...cause that's the excuse I used today for not picking...even tho I don't have a real job.   ::)

Yup.... but I am sitting here for 1 1/4 hour now after setting up my yardsale which is the biggest yet and not a single soul has shown up.

How do you advertise your sale?

Craigslist

yardsalesearch.com

garagesalehunter.com/

And the standard neon paper and black marker signs.

Google 'garage sale advertising' and find a site that is used in your area.
Advertise a week before.  Tell whts there but in general terms. Like 'kids clothes' not '6-9 month girls clothes'.     Ad pics of really good stuff, distant pics of whole lot to show quantity of stuff.
Low sales? You might have crap or didnt price right or set up right...there is a science to setting up.
No people? Odd. Yards sale buyers will get up at 4am and drive 100miles for a sale...

I personally hate yard sales.  Even when I've sold most everything and made good money I've felt like it was to much work.  Just not my thing but sometimes a necessity....

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #5...May, 2013
« on: May 31, 2013, 05:56:17 PM »

It still blows me away how many people don't look at the cost as a total. I hear "it only costs me this much a month". Really?

Tell me about it!  My friend got a qoute to have an outbuilding built about 5yrs ago.
20x24 on a concrete slab.   Builder quoted him $4600. $1000 down, 150/month, no interest.

He turned it down.  To expensive.

However, he pays $175/month for a 10x20 to work out of.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Found a Rolex, or is it fake?
« on: May 31, 2013, 09:06:23 AM »
I have the worst luck with watches.  Crack the face, break bands.....

Best watch I've ever had is my fake Rolex.  Cost $1 in Thialand.  Thing just keeps tick'n!

Anyway, two easier tells on the Submariner is the "date" box.  Should be a big number, takes up most of the box.  Should be clear, fakes distort at angle.  And number should be centered.

Second, there should be a rubber o-ring on the winding crown thingy. Unscrew it. Should be on the shaft.

Missing these you can be pretty sure it's fake.   Has them? could be real or a really good fake.

But like Travis said.  People are into those too.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Illegal to Own? Illegal to Sell?
« on: May 30, 2013, 05:52:36 PM »

Of course the limits are, if it is stolen property. If you legally buy a locker and it turns out to be stolen stuff you can't sell it.

This always pisses me off.   Buy locker, stolen goods, I'm in possession of stolen goods.
Cops take, THEY auction off.....oh, it's all cool now.

eBay / Re: What's Your Worst eBay Horror Story ?
« on: May 29, 2013, 01:18:07 PM »
I don't know.
But he sold a lot.   He parted out old Porsches.    But mostly the smalls stuff.
I added it up one month and he had done something like $2500 in sales and mostly $25-$50 stuff.
Think this was his first move into selling the body metal.   He didn't even know that he fenders were welded on.   He listed them with out pulling them off first.  Looked like he used a saws all to cut inner fender.  That kinda pissed me off.   You know how hard it is to separate a fender from inner when its not attached to the car?!

I don't watch SW unless I happen to see it as I'm flipping channels but did catch this episode.
I didnt even know who this guy was......

But the whole show ws brutal.   The new guy buying a $4000 unit?   Then at the end saying he was a winner at $900 profit?   Okay, let's say he can sell those old phones I see around selling at $10 for $100. Or the set of Avon cologne bottles that are at every thrift shop at 50cents for his '$50 all day long'.....
And we'll even leave out his employees pay.....

Lets say he made $900.   That's a hell of a lotta work for $900!

And the rest of the cast buying junk units in the $1000 range just so that guy didnt win it?  Oh yeah.  You showed him!   I *wish* everyone at auctions would do that to me!   Keep taking those losses and I'll see you at the next auction......oh wait....no I won't, your broke!   :D

Storage Wars has officially lost me as a viewer......
