eBay / Re: eBay Listing Service
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:04:13 PM »
for those of you interested in trying out a listing service inkfrog is a service that has a free element, more advanced parts you have to pay for. its kinda nice in that you can do things like automate leaving feedback. i have like 10 messages that are randomly left after people buy things so its not the same message everytime, looks more personalized. i can also print all my ebay orders in one click instead of having to go line item by line item in paypal. if your only selling a dozen or so things a month maybe not worth it but when you have 50+ orders comming in a day and hundreds of listings itss a big time saver.

You put your phone number on CL? That's a bold move!

Personally I think it's smart to put your number on cl. People will email offers and say they want stuff all day through email and not show up, however someone who is going to pick up the phone is a much more serious buyer. You cut out 90% of the bs dealing over phone and not email. Many people completely take away the option of contacting via email and only post a phone number. Also, if you dont want to give out your personal number download one of those free text call apps they give you a fake number you can take or receive calls on or take or rec texts on

I primarily use CL to sell and I always use eBay as a pricing tool.  I like CL for the reasons you listed.  Don't have to ship, pack, buy packing materials, pay ebay & PayPal fee's.....

I price for what I see things *selling* for, not asking.   Then use the "your getting a deal!  No shipping cost, you can inspect before purchase and no wait, no risk".

And ......hmmm....I totally lost my train of thought and point I was going to make.....ahh.....something like I get the same amount for item and buyer saves money on shipping, no risk, ....win, win.

I'm going to go make taco's now.

You guys must not put much value on your time because almost everyone on cl shows up later than they say. I coudl pack up 50 ebay orders in the time I sit for 30 minutes waiting for a buyer to show up or maybe never shows up at all. Also gas money to go meet people places since it seems many people don't like people comming to their home. Also now days on ebay most professional sellers offer free shipping as you get higher ranking that way, they just build shipping into the price. Packing materials dont cost that much and lots of stuff you can use recycled items for packaging materials.

What makes you feel you can dictate what htey sell their item for?

Ebay really isn't that hard of work. I sell 300 plus items a month on ebay on average. During busy times I can sometimes do over 30 packages a day, never takes me more than an hour.

Personally I prefer ebay over Craigslist, people buy and I shop, occasionally I have to answer a stupid question about shipping or about an item. I think Craigslist is a lot more work than ebay. It takes me 1 minute to pack someones order and ship for ebay and I can do it on my schedule. Craigslist however I wind up going back and forth with people trying to find a common meeting time, inevidably people show up an hour late leaving me waiting or don't show up at all. Half the time it costs me gas money driving to meet them. People low ball onc raigslist.  I would take ebay over craigslist any day in terms of time and work required.

If you don't like someone's price move on and look at someone else to buy from or make them an offer in line with what you want it for.

I generally don't take specific measurements however I will say you will need a truck or you will need an SUV. I had one guy call me about a big screen tv but one of the older projection models. I tell the guy I coudln't fit it into my camry and barely fit it into a Honda CRV. I said you will absolutely need an SUV, even gave him measurements. He shows up in a Hyundai elantra lol

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at garage sales

Garage sales in my area kinda suck, its all cookie cutter homes that been around 10 years or less and all mostly younger couples with kids, not that there can't be good finds but not as likely to find an old cartoon lucnh box or thermos or anything really cool and old. Gotta go to more established areas near me for that type of stuf

I think it all depends on what your avenue to resell stuff is. I know some people try to buy stuff on ebay and resell it on ebay. Yeah you can occasionally get good deals or a steal, however since ebay, especially auctions, kind of determines market price basically whatever you buy it for is going to be around the same as whatever you can sell it for unless someone maybe does a 1 day auction, starts it really low with no reserve and you really get a steal. Even if you get a good deal your looking at 10%-13% in ebay and Paypal fees so not a ton of room to make money.

As some others on here have said though, if you have avenues to move stuff off ebay or even better out of the country where you can bigger premiums it could be a way to make some money. Sounds like a lot of work though. I occasionally see people buying from me attempting to resell on ebay but most lose money

I use a merchant account not for my storage sales but for another business I have on the side. Works out excellent that's where most of  my sales come from. As far as craigslist sales I would think most people assume everything is cash deals however if you offer to acecept cards could bring in additional customers or sell more.

That said I wonder how it would be received by people. I could see it going one of two ways. More sales or people hesitant to give a credit card number to the guy who's garage they are in buying a used tent.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Good Part Time Income??
« on: July 19, 2013, 02:10:22 PM »
Are we still talking storage auctions, or did we switch to the stock market, or casinos?  ::)

i actually would argue it is a business for the underfunded. obviouslythe bigger bank roll hte bigger the possibility in terms of buying more units, buying better units, etc. The beauty of auctions however is that its  possible to buy a $25 locker. waht other business can you start with $25. i bought my first locker with the last $300 i had to my name and wound up making a few grand off it. thats few and far between but the beauty of it is it doesn't take a whole lot of startup money

you make some good points travis. unless someone is going through a ton of small appliances, tv's computer monitors, etc it probably wont amount to much. also you have to know what your doing as old tv's for example release poisonous gas when the tubes are broken. i can see some idiot busting a bunch open in an enclosed garage or something like that.
