The Treasure Chest / Found something good in a cops unit
« on: October 25, 2011, 06:11:58 PM »
Got a cops unit for 60 bucks a few weeks ago, this week.. finally started going through the boxes.  Not really happy with the merchandise..

Last tote (you know, the big plastic ones in EVERY unit)

Did I say last tote, I meant.. the VERY last tote.

A point blank bullet proof vest.  I looked down and saw the white ballistic inserts, and the shell sitting off to the side.

I pull it out and find out is a LVL 2 vest capable of stopping a .357 magnum.

Cant wait to sell that one!  60 bucks for this locker..

For anyone interested in the pictures (nevermind the site construction, still working on it):

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: First Lockers Purchased (w/ pics)
« on: October 25, 2011, 06:03:01 PM »
Well I did find some arrest papers / bail bonds stuff in the first unit  :)

As for the furniture, my mother claimed it all.  She liked it when I had father come help me clean out the locker.  The stuff was HEAVY.  So she ordered some glass for the china cabinet and dad plans to refinish the table.  They gave me $200 for the furniture and a S&W .40 clip I found that my father has been looking for.  Didn't make money but it made my parents happy which is even better.

If you need some china.. i got some. If your in Dallas/ Fort Worth..

One is a blue floral pattern, arcopal
other is something called 'applejack' hand painted china.. nice stuff, gotta like apples though!

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Revenue ?
« on: October 25, 2011, 05:38:28 PM »
Just found an outdoor flea market, cost is $100 a month.

here is what I get:

10x10 covered spot
10X20 storage unit

Sales are held 3 times a week.  Thur and Sat-Sun.

Thats a bargain just for the 10x20 storage.

to add to this story i was out at another auction , all units where junk and a man next to the auction had a skate shop crammed into a unit and he said he wanted to get rid of it all , as an ex-skater myself i knew the value of all the new clothes new boards and stuff i told him i was interested but i walked to see the next unit of the auction and i come back and tell him i want to buy everything in there for 250$ ( the stuff valued at 5-6 g"s) he tells me he sold it to another guy for 160$ remind u i walked away for 1 minute and rushed back to buy it. i was pissed beyond belief!

Im starting to learn if i want something i need to be more aggressive and not hesitate one bit cus i cant anticipate that the next locker will be better.

This is why I would bring enough to buy em both.

If I have time, I'll put their personal stuff in a box and bring it back when I go to get my sweeping deposit back.  IF I HAVE TIME.  Thats the caveat.

Bought a 5x10, 10x10 and a 10x20 and had to have them all cleaned out in one day.  Personal stuff got trashed that time around. I felt horrible doing it, but time is money and I had three units all mish mashed together. I wasn't up for trying to divide up 3 personal boxes.

I try not to think about it.  When I paid up, that stuff became mine, in it's entirety. Buying lockers one at at time, I'll return their stuff (pictures, tax returns etc.).  Buying 3- trashing anything I cant sell.

If someone came up to me, wanted to buy their stuff back, it really depends on the stuff.

High end furniture and electronics, they are going to pay through the nose. I know what I could make on it and while I may cut them a deal, they probably won't see it that way.

Particle board furniture and those older almond colored computers, pay me to get rid of that crap? deal!

My website is now up, Im still working out the finer details but as of now it will work.

My URL is listed in my profile, anyone in Texas up for a free account?  Help me test this beast out and Ill set you up with a free store front.  Once I get traffic to the site, I'll likely start charging for the store front feature but yours will remain free for at least a year.

Classified ads, store front, anon listings.. Last time I did a classified site, i was BUSY.  Those sites can be lucrative if you do it right.

Anyways, check mine out.. keep in mind Im not finished, still working out some kinks..

Units already paid for themselves, still going through the stuff.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: A trend? Pre-cut locks...
« on: October 16, 2011, 04:11:51 PM »
You have to realize that the storage company wants the locker empty, the auctioneer wants his cut of money.

Given that, do you know just how much trouble they can be in if they get caught doing this?  The state would likely pull his auctioneer license.  The state would also shut down the storage facility if they got caught rummaging through someones locker.  Even though there is rent owed, that doesn't give them carte blanche access to take what they want.  Thats the point of the auction.

I would prefer they cut the locks, it speeds things up and if folks bidding think that the locker doesn't have anything good because of a cut lock, then Im fine with that.  I'll just get it for cheaper.

Same thing a few weeks ago.  Saturday auction, I almost didn't go because Saturdays can be a real pain with all the weekenders.

I ended up with 3 units, total was 600 and some change.

Word of caution.

Just because you feel Amazon is ripping you off now, you probably shouldn't burn this bridge.  I sold PC games on amazon and made a killing.

Also, Amazon may change in the future to lure sellers back to their site.

Another thing, if you have a website, you can list stuff from amazon on your site and make a few dollars here and there.

By cancelling, you are essentially trashing your account with them.  If anytime in the future, you decide to sell with them, you won't be able to.

I guess what I'm saying is, be careful about the bridges you burn. Personally, I would of eaten the loss, and delisted the rest of my inventory.  Chalk it up as lesson learned.

You may get yourself permabanned from buying or selling on that site.

Optimize your pages so google will index your ads.  In your ebay ads, host your pictures on YOUR site, and reference those pics in your ebay HTML.  Google will also look to see how many other sites are linking to yours, and if those sites are large sites then you will move up in the rankings.

Get those keywords on your site, use the keywords as much as you can. This is important.  Figure out which keywords are working and which aren't.  The ones that aren't then remove them and use new ones.

Use your email address from your website on any message boards, etc.  People will see your domain, and give you some traffic.

Word of mouth is good business, but optimizing the search engine settings on your site can drive you a TON of traffic.

Speaking from experience.  I ran a few sites, made some money with em but just got bored with em.  I like creating them, not really into maintaining them once I made em.  Creating them is where the challenges are at.

PM me your website, I would like to have a peek.

If a pawn shop offers you 1350, multiply that by three and you have the real value in that gold.
