Other Forms of Selling / Re: A Way to Sell Cell Phones
« on: May 24, 2013, 07:11:10 PM »
I collect old "useless" phones. Ones no one wants and give them to either police or directly to the women's shelter.
They pass them out, mainly to low income or homeless, domestic violence victims. Girls on the street. Homeless teens.
Even with no plan, cell phones will still call 911.
Even if the person is well off, has phone, cell phone.....cops give them the phones to hide so if someone takes thier phone.
I keep an old phone in my car for emergencies. Another in the safe room in case something happens and I can't grab cell....
Several around my elderly mothers house. On the floor in bathroom, on floor by bed, floor between kitchen and living room.......see a the pattern? Yeah, we are worried about falls.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How to get it moved
« on: May 24, 2013, 06:57:32 PM »I think we should all be moving our own stuf.
I've had two shoulder surgeries and (minor) heart surgery in the past 18 months.
I've had every muscle in my shoulder cut apart and surgically pinned to various bones.
Can I get a pass on moving my own stuff?

eBay / Re: What's Your Worst eBay Horror Story ?
« on: May 24, 2013, 06:50:33 PM »
Reverse horror story.....worked out fine for me but sucked for seller....
Porsche fender that sells for $750. Cheapest I've seen is $300 in pretty bad shape.
I won for $80, free shipping.
Well, shipping was $87. So he's already lost.
Fender comes and its not a described. Has filler work and fiberglass patches. Worse than the one I was replacing.
He says he has another. Now this next part I feel bad about, left lots of bad feedback because I didnt hear from him for two weeks. Turns out he is a fire fighter and got called to fight wild fires in L.A.
But he should have emailed me.....
Anyway, he sends out another fender.....wrong side. I send back. He he sends correct fender.
So in the end the whole thing cost him like $250.
I have no idea why someone would have free shipping on a no reserve item that big and heavy!

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Fulfilling my newbie intro obligation
« on: May 23, 2013, 04:09:48 PM »
It's not always about how much you make on a unit. You have to factor in the things you get to keep and the money you didn't have to spend on those items.
That's what I tell people about Estate Sales. It's not all about finding things to sell.
It's also about not paying retail on things I need....or want.
I've been looking for a new gym bag. Got one today. Brand new. Nautica. Just the style & color I wanted. Retail: $129.99. I paid $8.
My hair clippers are shot. Been watching the Ads for a sale. Today (same estate sale) I got a cordless one that retails for $30. I got it for $4. Plus they had it in a nice leather case that also had hair scissors, Made in Italy and some vintage ones. One is listed on etsy for $25.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: My adventures from the beginning
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:41:09 AM »IThere are some grumpy people, but I figure that is because they were making a reasonable living off this before the tv shows made the price of units go nuts.
But this is business. They know it, but dont like it. I suspect that they are more annoyed with people that bid things up beyond profitability.
If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.
This is business. Businesses must learn, adapt, evolve....
Negitivity breeds negitivity, contempt and shortsightedness. All of which clouds our vision and makes attaining our goals impossible.
......
I just brush off all the negative people at auctions. I believe, and have seen it in action, that those who run up bids tend to get run up themselves more often. They are the ones that no one offers to piece-meal units they've won. Won't help them move heavy items and facilities won't give them extra days to empty. (Or like last week, tell them that their truck is about to be towed).
And I'm sure their attitude has driven off potential buyers and people that can make them money by either pointing them to a buyer/outlet, how to repair something, value (appraise) an item......
A lot of us stand around joking, offering each other pastries or grabbing coffee before the next auction.
"Those people" stand alone.
The only thing they have in their life is the dog in their truck. A dog eagerly starring out the window hoping today is the day his owner won't come back.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Salvage Dawgs Make A Business of Redoing Achitectural Remants

I love urban mining. Those old farm houses in Eastern Washington have some nice architecture.
No one cared if you took stuff though we always asked around first just to make sure. I have a slight fear of shotguns.

However, I love damnyouautocorrect(dot)com/. So at least apples stupidity offers me entertainment.

Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Want To Go Bowling?
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:26:20 PM »
Oh yeah, i have friends that went nuts. Semi-auto tactical shotgun with high capacity clips. Sniper rifles. Silencers. One even paid out the tax to get fully auto hardware.
I want to have firearms for self defense and survivalist situations. Some for sport. But I don't need to be able to invade small third old countries!
However, grenades would be cool. Home defense you understand. I'm a bad shot.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Rims & Tires
« on: May 21, 2013, 02:17:04 PM »
A friend shipped some rims/tires and it was $270.
Plus they had to be on a pallet and secured. It was a mess trying to get FedEx to pickup.
Aluminum rims can be up to $20/ea scrap value. I try to post on CL first then scrap after a week or two.
Tires are a pain on CL. I've had brand new $150 tires listed for $75/ea or $200/set and still people lowball offer you.
I have four new tire and a set of mudders on aftermarket rims right now that I'm procrastinating on listing just cause I hate dealing with CL tire people.
Only other option is a used tire store. Most big cities have one. They don't pay much but better than nothing.
