I think I have seen those when I was way younger mixed in with my grandfather's stuff. Although I cant tell you what it is. Sorry, is there any kinds of markings on the piece?

Other Forms of Selling / Re: If stationed near a military base

O wow, I was a military brat growing up, and in San Antonio we have several bases, Randolph AFB, Brookes Army Base, Kelly AFB, and Lackland AFB. And I never knew this.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Auction Fashion Sense
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:31:39 PM »
I was going to ask what proper attire is at an auction.  I would assume that it is anything that you don't mind getting dirty while cleaning out your lockers...
Yes anything you dont mind getting dirty, or even better something you do not mind throwing away, depending on how bad of a unit you got. I know I wont keep a shirt if I accidentally spilled food that has been baking inside a fridge inside a lkr for the past 9 months.

Also think of something comfortable, remember most units are not climate controlled, so if it is hot outside, it will be hotter in side the lkr. And if it is cold outside, it will roughly be about same temp inside the lkr, a lil bit warmer or a hell of alot colder.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keeping up Sales in winter
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:27:37 PM »
  Hi Jross
Thanks for the heads up on Your lack of cold  winter weather in Fort Worth ?   ::)
Did I mention that I came through Your town in Feb. ?   We were moving My sister in law back  to Ma. from  Ca.  .                                                                                                                                            We ( 16 ft. Budget and a Saturn )  got stuck in Deming Nm. for two days as  I-20 and the roads in Dallas had turned into skating rinks .  We had No Problem ( Me , Wife and Daughter  driving , but S in L hadn't driven in/on snow or ice in over 20 yrs. and was freaking out .
When the roads opened up , We booked it down the Low route ( I-10 )  only to get stuck  in Mobil Al and again in Pa. when the closed the roads  do to icing .
We are thinking about spending this winter in either Fl. , Nm., Az. , or Tx.   not sure where yet , just reading all the Rv forums We can .  ;D
   Bob
  Ps.
If You see a Dodge Maxi Window van with Mass. plates towing a trailer at a local auction next winter , it isn't Us .    ::)

Umm I do not get where you got the idea I am from FT Worth. I was born there, but I live in South Texas, in San Antonio. Here we dont get bad winters. However if you are talking about Ft Worth they get ice on the ground every year through alot of the Winter months, and usually (not all the time) snows, Id say about an inch or two, most of the time this snow melts.

Storage Auctioneers / Re: What are an auctioneer's responsibilities?
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:24:52 PM »
IMHO the auctioneer is simply the middleman.  He is there to ensure a fair auction for the buyers and sellers.  That said, I would assume that the liability is on each person bidding.  If you want to spend 5k on some sunglasses and a TV so be it.  That could be my libertarian political philosophy speaking though.

Agreed, thats the Auctioneers job is to make sure it is a fair auction, and get the most he can get for a unit. If you really wanted to buy or another really wanted to buy say $20 worth of goods for $500, why should anyone stop you. No one is making these bidders bid. They can walk out at anytime. Unless of course the so called GAVEL falls on their last bid.

I foe one sure hope this is where the industry is headed, sealed online bids will take the work of actually attending and ruin this hobby/business.

Not to mention it is a sealed bid :)

Coming up on 2 months since you posted info on sports cards you had for sale, and the silent auction you had been too.

How goes the job search and/or buying of lkrs ?

I am wondering myself

Dont really have that cold winter problem here in South Texas, but regardless, most of my sales are through CL.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Trashy unit =(
« on: July 27, 2011, 02:05:03 AM »
Oh yeah, I can give this peice of advice STAY AWAY FROM WEEKEND AUCTIONS. There were 300 plus people for these 40 units.

lol, word of advice on that one, it did not use to be that way, most of your veterans either have stores or flea market booths, which in case if its a flea market booth they dont usually show up to auctions, its primarily the noobs that watch tv and have a job that show up on weekends

Its amazing. The shows are just killing the prices(they should have a disclaimer for entertainment purposes only).Have to wait till these people get burned and quit..
And by the time they all quit, a new season will bring in a new horde of people,

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: What to do Office Furniture?
« on: July 27, 2011, 01:59:39 AM »
I am going to add on something about the temp agency route, jsut so you know in advanced, you will be charged no less than 4 hours for each person you hire from there (even if they only work for an hour), this adds up quite fast. Best thing to do is advertise on CL for temp work, or hire some of your buddies.
