General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Legal notices
« on: May 24, 2013, 12:55:07 PM »
Tough thing about legal notices is they have to go in a paper but could be any paper. There's normally local papers for your city plus surrounding cities and they could post in any one of those. In some states they can also post in papers like the penny saver which aren't real newspapers. You never really knowwhere to look. I would find out which "newspaper" has the cheapest rates for posting a legal ad and check that one as storage facilites are already out ennough money they dont wanna pay a nice paper $175 to run an ad if they can get a small no name paper to do it for $20 and it still meets the legal requirement

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Rims & Tires
« on: May 24, 2013, 12:53:10 PM »
If it's nicer rims try craigslist or even ebay if they're nice rims some people willing to pay for shipping. Overall though for average stuff I move it on craigslist, sometimes to someone needing to repair their car othertimes to scrappers.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How to get it moved
« on: May 24, 2013, 12:52:13 PM »
Hiring a moving company would be silly they charge crazy prices. My personal opinion is unless you have a shop and have employees already being paid that are sitting idle in which case your really not out any additional money to have it moved for you I think we should all be moving our own stuf. Were working on thin margins already, plus you never know if someone might pocket a necklace or something valuable. If your not willing to put in some sweat labor what are you doing in the business you know.

That said if you have so much stuff or bought multiple units and need help cheapest route would be getting a younger neighbor or relative looking to make a few bucks.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Staged?
« on: May 24, 2013, 12:50:06 PM »
I think it's tough to tell if something is staged or not. You could make hte argument that good things at the front is staged because bidders can see it and you would think you would hide good stuff in the back incase your locker were broken into. You can just as easily however say good things would go to front because it's the last thing you put in and want to be more careful with or its the stuff you'll need the soonest so you put it towards the front.

I think with staged units its one of those things you'll know it when you see it or at the very least know to be suspicious, however I dont think its that easy to say a unit is staged if you see such and such

eBay / Re: Selling jeans internationally
« on: April 24, 2013, 02:53:45 PM »
Ive used it and it works great! The buyer pays for the shipping (& all the other customs requirements) and I just pay to ship it to the distribution center in Kentucky.

I was super excited when I saw this program roll out. Selling internationally opens itup to a whole new set of buyers and certain items sell bettter outside the US than in. My biggest reason not wanting to sell outside the US is people get mad about customs holding packages toolongwhich is out of our control as a seller but they still hold us responsible. I like with this program how once we ship it to ebay its their problem.

Unfortunately my product category isn't eligible for this program :'(

The Lounge / Re: What is the deal with web designers?
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:58:31 PM »
just a tip for anyone hiring web designers. most firms do not actually do the work themselves, they outsource it to an indian company, jack the price up about 4-6 times what htey are paying and bill you. they then just act as an intermediary between you and the indian company. if your just hiring some dude off craigslist to build you a blog okay he's doing the work but any us based web design firm for the most part is outsourcing for about a fifth of the price you are paying them.

The Lounge / Re: What next from the airlines....pay toilets ?
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:56:38 PM »
actually it has happenned about two years ago ryan air out of ireland started charging for toilets i believe it cost a pound coin which is probably about $1.50 at todays rates. personally i think its stupid and a bad pr move but they are known for doing super low cost flights between european countries but everything is an addon.

also a samoan airline just started charging passengers by their weight

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist & Sales Taxes
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:48:27 PM »
most people dont want to pay sales tax which is why they are on craigslist in the first place. i would avoid charging it as you will lose customers
