Dang that is some cheap price.  I'd of gotten 4 so it would be the same price as the 1 I pay for.  Then could spread out all the cloths, books, smalls, etc. that I have.  Of course watching 4 tables would be a PITA.

Good lock Money - hope you do well.

Glad to see ya post UGA*FAN - read about the twisters up your way.

Movieman - that is a decent buy IMO.  That locker would be $800-$1000 normally in our area.  With people doing stupid stuff the way they are it would of gone for $1300 and up now.  Not as full of a locker that size with "ipod", "macbook", etc. boxes showing went for $1375.

Good looking unit with a number of u-haul boxes.  If it was an older lady that supervised the packing and storage you have a good chance of finding some old coins or gold, along with tons of nylons, old magazines, and books.  I know my grandmother who lived during the depression kept anything and everything of value or use.  She had a old purse with nothing but rolls and rolls of old wheat pennies.  Also have a shed full of old harliquine romance novels...still.  If I could ever find a buyer for those I could make some money.

Lol Cheesehead - not had it but I'm always up for a good stew.  Of course if I like it the squirrels and rabbits in my area may become scarce.

Welcome Manykats to the forums.  As money said - use the search function.  Many of your questions have been answered several dozen times.  If you don't want to do a search just spend an hour or so and read the next few pages in the "Noobie Center" section.

You really need to have a good idea of what you need before and after a auction.  A lock is just the start.  You also need to know what to do if/when you win a unit.  Where are you going to store the stuff?  What are you going to do with it?  How are you going to sell it?  How can you dispose of the trash?  These are just some of the quick questions to answer yourself.

Least those shoes look better then the ones I keep pulling out of units.  Shoes / boots in boxes I seem to sell quick.  Shoes standing like those in picture can get some looks but don't move fast.

You should change your caption under your portrait MovieMan to "bag of cloths" instead of "box".   Or maybe that is only down here in the south.

Lol Acman - I feel your pain.  My sneaking out at lunch to attend an auction days are about over.  Getting a new boss that micro manages like mad.  Even exempt people have to clock in-out, line up for fire drill, etc.

Anyways - on the auction side you are right about people paying up.  Thank to Drew's ASA weekly I was set to hit two auctions today while in Atlanta.  I didn't make it.  First facility canceled the auction as all the units paid up.  The second facility when I called had 2 units left, 90% paid up.  Was a 2 hour wait before the auction so father and I hit the road back towards the house.

I see the same thing in my area.  One auction already this month canceled as everyone paid up.  Last saturday all the units in one location paid up, and lady paid up at last min on second facility so we had 2 out of 10.

Prices for us still seem to be all over the board but mostly high.  Like the other evening, daughter put in a bid of $10 on a small unit with nothing but cloths.  Manager told her he already had a $100 opener.  She was a little shocked.  Him and I both agreed if this was even last August, she may of gotten it for the $10, at least under $50.

If your in the Atlanta area you can subscribe to Drew's listing.  It is pretty accurate from what I can tell and gives # of units, address for facility, and a phone #.  Is a great way to pay him back for providing this site to us.

Money - the college thing is a great idea.  Just wished I live in or near a college town.  The few dorms we have for the local school are pretty much lived in year round.  So they don't do the dumping thing unless they are finished with school and moving out.

As for the garbage police - we have that here.  In fact our local dump closed and we have to use a transfer station now which is even higher price for trash.  Now, when I drive into rural Georgia I keep an eye out as I pass the county dumpsters by the side of the road.  Snatched a rusty metal shelf one day while driving back from Statesboro.  Added a few bucks to my scrap pile for free.

Least you don't have to worry about stray cats in the area.

He looks to be about 10 feet long - pretty good size gator.  Sort of surprised he wasn't in deeper water with the lack of rain.  Less he has been run off by others.  As you said your the only one with water in the local area.

That first picture looks about like my back shed.  Must be someone's scrap pile.  I don't have that many xmas lights yet but I'm sure getting a good pile going.  Really thinking I need another trailer or two.  One to load up with trash, one with scrap, and the other to clean out units.

Laugh - since I work with 175+ women and it's all female at the house I have to get my licks in when I can ;)

Other things that suck -- finding a jewelry box, bags, and other pouches with jewelry and it all be FAKE.

Only 1 sterling silver gold color bracelet (.925 italy).

Some magazines, or articles in the magazines can be worth some money.  There was a guy at the flea market that would take old pictures, magazines, news headlines, etc. and put them in picture frames.  Would then sell the "art" or whatever want to call it for $50 and up.

As for those huge boxes with books, etc.  All I can say (while ducking my head) is a women packed that box.

Those are some nice finds.  I keep finding myself eyeballing every dumbster that I drive-by now-a-days.  We built all of our props for local ice skate show out of scrap lumber from construction sites.  A few times while waiting on auctions I've looked in the dumbster and pulled out various metal items (ferrous and non-ferrous).  It's always great to make money on "free" items.

With 50 free listings put up anything and everything as it gets toward the end of the month.  Or when they have "free days" you can list as much as you want.  Just be prepared with pictures, etc. before hand.

I just sold a yearbook for $5 on ebay.  Only a few bucks profit after fee/shipping but better then nothing.

That is when I would be taking in all of my scrap metal (ferrous and non-ferrous) to sell.  I keep it stockpiled for rainy days so to speak.

If I ever find gold/silver those would be saved for rainy days also.  Current metal prices are down so unless you really need the cash hold onto some stuff.
