Picker's Paradise / Re: Craigslist email etiquette ????
« on: January 19, 2012, 02:41:29 PM »
Honestly, I always include my phone number in my craigs ad. Yes, I do get the occasional spam texts, have never recieved a junk call though. Skipping the whole e-mail proccess really saves time, and attracts serious buyers if they are willing to text/call on an item.

Yes we do too. My problem was when buying and no phone # given. So have to resort to email.
We got a text last night @11:30 PM. for one of our items on CL.  >:(

Found two nice dressers, two different adds. emailed both on Friday evening (moving fast good deal). Get a response on Sat morning @ 11:30 AM. We were out. Said both dressers were still available, and she had a lot of interest, and that the weekends were better for her. So I responded and said we could come right now. No response.  >:(

Update on that one got a text message dated the end of that weekend. Problem I don't text and did not get the message until this past weekend.

What happened to just talking on the phone?

#10 for me, Clothes and clothes.

think have only 2 VHS tapes.
have about 50 DVD. Had them marked @ $2 each at yard sale and had to sell some for $1. did make people stop and look. So those are going out as Movieman said.

Did dig through my ebay bin. Got all my info to get it on there, did forget about some of that stuff. LOL

Been lucky on the dump runs, burn some of it. and some bad furniture was able to give it away. Maybe half a truck load of garbage.

On the dollar store stuff mine are not warped thrown in a laundry basket/ they don't even get a box. LOL

rockin cool on the Toulouse Lautrec litho.

Dang money that sucks about you not feeling well and the thrift store you sell to/at.  In my area that is how they advertise.  By putting stuff out by the road / sidewalk and in front of the store entrance.

Yeah has turned into a netflix day still raining. We are ok but feel if we spent time in the rain would be knocked out.

On the Thrift it does suck that is how she has been selling so much. If people don't see it out they think she is closed. She would keep things fresh put the new stuff out front.
She said it was the county code, I doubt that. the landlord has talked to her about putting the stuff in the parking lot/ there is a Dr. office next door.
The original Dr. there passed away around the time she opened, now there is a new one there so I think that is part of the problem. She is in a great location but IMO I think she pays to much in rent for what she gets. But she has been doing well there.  And there is nothing else for rent there.

Sure hope we don't have to go get that stuff we would need a barn. LOL

Thanks Craiglstauction.

Two auctions today total of 12 units advertised. Were planning on attending just to be lookie loos. Waiting on sells to pick up a little.

But it has started raining don't think will go (have been a little under the weather).
20* then 75* then back to 32* might have something to do with that.

Also our Thrift was told yesterday that she could not put anything on the side walk or parking-lot. We loaded her up with stuff over the weekend. Guess we need to set back and see what is going to happen there.

Good Luck Movieman

Flea Markets / Re: First weekend of the year
« on: January 18, 2012, 07:05:59 AM »
Well I talked to another vendor from the flea.  He said during the winter months they have a 40% reduction in foot traffic.  It sort of sucks as I'm starting to build up inventory and no great way to sell all the yardsale / flea items.

Little bit further south. This is the time to sell sell. have to reserve a spot at the Flea. In the hot months the sells will go down. So guess we all suffer a slow time.

How did it go Matches?

We did not attend any Estate sales. Did go to the equipment auction. Takes all day if you buy something. Husband does really well there.  :).  Only bad part over half of what we spend is for things around our farm. LOL

We got fence post for .50 a piece Retail is $7.50 each. we are going to sell half of them and use the other half so we will be getting our fence for free.  ;D

Waiting for an update  ;)

Flea Markets / Re: Startup Costs

I found out that my flea has a rental service at $8 per table. So these should pay for themselves in 2 days. Good deal. Still looking for more tables, though, since these aren't that big. They'll do for now, though :D.

Our Flea gives you one table per space and with table rental to new stuff only, Used items are limited to only one table, and you can not bring in any tables to use. Can use shelves or the ground.  ::)

You might want to double check what their policy is. Our just play dumb until they tell you can't bring tables in.  ;)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: ST site
« on: January 16, 2012, 05:18:30 AM »
I registered for it I get about one email a month from them.  I did check the I don't want any updates button.  ;) Unlike here can't get my updates and did click the button.  :(

I find Auctions then go to the ST site double check the address and get the phone number if not listed on the legal notice.  Use it when I hear of a facility in a specific city. Only use it as a directory. Sometimes do it in reverse, Look up area then look for the legals in that county.

A lot of the auctions they list are legit, Some if I didn't see the legal notice I don't bother. They want you to call and then post what you find out. LOL Not going to do that.

Looked at their boards once Lame.

 :D

With ya we aren't Lazy just smart. LOL

Went and picked up the furniture had been trying to get for a week.  Spent $100 and priced out at Thrift for $470. Don't think could have made that at the Flea today.  8)

Next weekend looks better for us.

Planned on hitting the Flea this weekend to get rid of some of our inventory. Well the weather is @ 32 degrees at 7:51. Decided to wait until next weekend.

I know not that cold but for me (true Floridian) to cold. Plus we have run ragged picking and buying stuff.

Sold about $150 out of consignment this week so not bad. Have been chasing a guy with some nice furniture for a week now. We can pick it up today so think can make more off that than the Flea.

Money you can try selling the receivers on Ebay. I sold the one from this unit on there. People are looking for these and they seem to bring a good price.

Thanks will give it a shot.

Sounds Good.

I get nervous if going to a new facility for us and don't see at least one regular. Double edged sword. Don't really want to see some of them but if they are not there I worry maybe this is a bad place to buy.

But we have not found one yet that the regulars don't attend.  :D

Sounds like you will do good on these two keep us updated.

Had to go search before I ask. What do you do with Dish Network Receiver ? I got one in couple of lockers ago, don't know what to do with it. I had two (?? not sure were the second one came from) when we turned our service off and had to return them both no profit there. Thanks

Wish me luck guys, taking a G and praying for that dirt bike unit. I think ima hit it $100 at a time and try to catch everyone off guard.

Good Luck.

@MovieMan glad you got one with a little profit.

@Craigslistauction we went to one that is crazy and ended up getting one, almost got two but that bidding decision time got us. Just did not look like it was worth the $40 bucks wanted.

So in general even with all the noobies the prices were not bad, hard for us to judge the overall scene, have a lot of facilities that don't have one every month popping up.  So they are new to us.

We have been to 3 Auctions and saw 18 units. Small compared to MovieMan's 40.  And have bought one.
The last week in Jan. Looks good for us. So moving what inventory we have to be ready for them. :D

Craigslistauction think it was Matches who said the certificates themselves may be profitable.  ;)

We haven't gotten a unit with this much potential yet. Still looking.  ;D
