Picker's Paradise / Re: Ghost Town Gold
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:45:44 AM »
movieman tell us more about ghost towns, what are they like, what types of things do you find etc? ive always wanted to do the route 66 drive and hit a bunch of ghost towns. i think its cool how they are kinda stuck in time imagein there's some great collectible stuff. one thing that i always thought was alot of the really cool items your going to find are going to be large to the point you cant bring them with you or you rlimited to like one item.

yes ive bought guitars at pawn shops before. you can find deals at pawn shops but not deals to the point of having room to sell and make a profit. you can find good deals for yourself though. i have sold items to a pawnshop as well normally china or crystal things im not having luck moving on my own.

its not a scam its a marketing tactic. think about when your watching youtube videos are you more likely to watch a video with 50,000 views or 5 views, probably 50k b/c you assume if 50k people like it it must be good. same goes for following someone on twitter or liking something on facebook somenoe is more likely to follow someone with more followers.

is it an artificial boost? yes but none the less its easier to get alot of followers when you have alot of followers.ive sold facebook likes, youtube views, youtube favs, youtube followers, pinterest pins, instagram followres, pinterest repins and basically everything you can do on any social network. occasionally people will complain and say its bot accounts or european accounts. well no duh anyone with a brain understands how this works. if you want targeted followers expect to pay up to $10 per followre however i can get you 10000 followers for like $30.

there's really not much harm in doing this the followers do fall off after a while but when you get thousands or tens of thousands for like $20 or $30 no big deal plus its meant to be all about perception and a temporary boost anyways.

The Lounge / Re: When to Start Your Own Apparel Line
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:34:03 AM »
i think storage auction buyers hsould focus on buying storage auctions and not try to be fashion designers. i could cares less about tshirts made by dave hester or anyone from storage wars let alone someone even less known such as someone from my local auctions or even this forum.

if you have your own brick and mortar shop and want to get hoodies and maybe some carhartt jackets made up with your name or logo for some free advertising maybe not a bad idea but i dont see people flocking to buy storage auction gear from anyone

The Lounge / Re: Truck rental prices
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:26:34 AM »
best deal is home depot. not all home depots do this but many rent trucks and vans out of their tool rental shop. its $24 for a few hours i think three hours. there's not much paperwork like at rental places where it takes 45 min to get your truck home depot they take a quick copy of your license and credit card and your on your way. they got vans and i think f250's or something similar with high walls.

if its just a one off item id say give it to a gf or keep it for yourself not sure what i would do if i founda whole unit full of knock off purses or nikes or something like that.

i used to try to limit myself to a few facilities for auctions so got to know managers pretty well. it was nice they'd let myself nad some other regulars use the box trucks for free as long as we filled them up before we brought them back. one by one someone had accidents and they all stopped letting us borrow trucks for free and with no paperwork

eBay / Re: Brick and Mortar Ebay Services
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:21:32 AM »
those services from what i gather looking at a few normally charge about 50% of the item on top of the 13% ebay and paypal is already charging you. i can maybe see dumping a bunch fo junk on them that you would otherwise throw out and hoping to get something off of it but i doubt the stores would take stuff like that. seems ike the stores like to take the stuff that's quick and easy to flip which if thats the case you may as well sell it yourself and keep all the profit.

eBay / Re: My Ebay Shipping Tips ++ Much More!!
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:19:50 AM »
great tips definately recommend getting a postage scale thats the best advice you can give. im surprised by how many people decide to sell on ebay and dont have one. estimating your going to leave your buyers paying for partial shipping you didn't pay for when it arrives or your going to wind up overpaying yourself by several bucks each time. just guessing under by an ounce or two can mean a buck or two more per package. considering you can get a decent postage scale for around $15 it pays for itself quickly.

another tip, everyone thinks media mail is the cheapest but first class is often cheaper and fasteer than media mail on lighter items.

always send with delivery confirmation if not all the buyer has to say is i didnt get it and they get their money back.

Craigslist / Re: how far do you go testing appliances before selling them
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:39:17 PM »
if its something easy to plug in and test i will if it requires buying parts of diff electrical voltage give discount and sell as untested

alot of people knock books and many as we've discussed on here either suck or are nothing but vague upsells to high priced programs that are probably garbage as well. i would buy a book if i were new to auctions. sure all the same info for the most part can be found online on this forum and blogs for free if you dont mind spending hours of searching but to have it all combined in one well organized book along with forms an things is well worth it.

522
i dont think i would ever go to an auction like this unless i noticed they had a motorcycle i really wanted or a larger ticket item like that

523
lol was laughing at this post. i just moved this past weekend myself the move made all the more difficult not by my stuff but all the crap ive aquired at auctions. i cant find the screws or dowel pieces to my bed.

524
ive never liekd driving far. maybe a 30 min drive max. there's more than enough auctions in that radius and i dont find any units farther have any better stuff.

525
