General Storage Auction Talk / NO wonder people are paying there storage
« on: October 14, 2011, 04:56:45 PM »
unit bills more than ever! The demographics the shows/advertisers (STORAGE BORS AND AH) are trying to reach is 18-54 men with a yearly income of 25,000 to 45,000.  Which is the age group of people renting storage units and at that icome in the low to mid 25,000 to 35,000 they probably make sure that bill is pay or loose there unit. The show is very strong in the 18-34 men then catches men in the 45 year old range as well. 3% were in the 50 year old range. If you have some time look at the demographics SPIKE tv is designed to tarket. Makes you feel really stupid and old. Spike TV is an American cable television channel that is a division of MTV Networks and owned by Viacom. It is designed for the demographic of young adult males

The person bidding may be the former lkr owner (or associates) who KNOW the contents of the two sanitary napkin boxes is ACTUALLY $75,000 in large bills from drug transactions.  ;D

Otherwise, for a 5 x 15 lkr that looks like that $100 might be the going price in central California.

Very true! It might be the owner trying to make money on his shed. Online makes me think staged or very weary. I have changed my mind on online

West / Re: Our recent units...
« on: October 14, 2011, 02:28:58 PM »
Well, about a month ago my husband bid on this locker... We got it. 10 x 30 spent lil over 1000 on it. We lost our butts. Was a drug unit. Bunch of flasks and such. We lost about 400 on that unit. I went to the next auction with him. The unit that we got there... We spent 800 on on this unit. 10 x 30 again. The previous owner was a store owner. We really scored... Or u would think. I have aprox. 3000 scooter accessories. Brand new Disney and looney tunes toys and collectibles. About 80 new ceramic dogs, 3D dog coffee mugs, NASCAR coffee mugs, oh yea and about 600 toy story 2 items that I already sold. We have made our money back on the unit. We still have a large amount of inventory. I have things listed on eBay, craigslist, freebay, and I have my webpage on all of my listings. I have contacted the local sports outlets for the scooter accessories. But only sold a few dozen. I told my husband that we may just need to store the scoter parts till spring. We live in Orange County so u would think that there would be a demand for them most of the time... Ya guess not. Anywho I really like the unit. I c the money sitting there. I get so excited when I think about that money sitting there.... But I can't get ppl to buy... Hmmmm. Thanks for reading. Have a great night. Happy hunting. Sweet dreams.
How did you loose on the 10x30 that you paid 1000? Didnt the tv shows on storage auctions that you watch teach you to only bid on what you can see at the door. You sound super smart so what did you see that was 1000 at the door. Or even better you should of seen 2000 to bid 1000 to make profit

If your more than an occassional seller. Especially like a flea market if you sell more than 3 days or more than 10k u must obtain a state resellers licence an need to pay taxes.
In my state you are only allowed 5 yard sales a year. More than that you need a bussiness lic.

Ive never had to give my address to a storage company before! So good luck making me pay taxes on stuff I havent sold. And If I keep stuff for myself what IRS is going to tax me on that. What about the tax you pay the storage company for the lockers. HMMMMMMMMM

Thats like I was saying most people had no idea about storage auctions before the shows came out. Buyers and renters also watch the show, so I bet the renters of the units got a fast message in there heads and have wised up now knowing if they dont pay someones to to own there stuff. Same in my area auctions all the time getting cancled or from 10 units to 3 units and most of them are trash.

Got my first loser unit this weekend, and when I log in I'm back to noobie status. Wish I had been a looky loo yesterday, but it was just a matter of time I guess. 5 total hours of work cleaning out, 2 dump runs and a probable 40.00 loss. Oh well, it's fall break for the wife and kids and I'm on vacation for ten days.  8)
Bought one of those last weekend myself! But lucky us the owner really wanted there stuff back so sold for 200 more plus got the 25 cleaning deposit back

The next big thing is bidding on lost luggage at the airport. Airports are going to hold auctions on luggage that has been Unclaimed Baggage. I searchedn and only found this. couponing.about.com/od/onlineauctions/a/baggage.htm

Whats next??

Sorry Travis, I been away for awhile, re-grouping myself and taking some leisure time with the kids while things are still over priced and less lockers going up.
I think prices are down a bit. I'm still kicking myself for not getting a lawn care unit. Went for 650.00 had a trailer ridding lawn mover a sthil week wacker gas powered. Did have a bunch of tree branches etc ! I was just to lazy to do the work.

Cut the ends off all the cords, throw them in a tub, and when you get it full take it to the scrap yard and make a few bucks on it.  All the cords and cables you end up with in lockers add up pretty fast.....I'm pretty sure I'm doing over 100 a month just in cords and cables.

As far as the vhs....keep one of the many outdated and obsolete video cameras you're bound to find and make some home porn!  Or not.....LOL!  I donate the commercially recorded movies to Goodwill and the home recordings and blanks typically go in the trash.
Very true on the cords! I make about 70 per month as well.

General Storage Auction Talk / Got very luck over the weekend very lucky!
« on: October 10, 2011, 01:30:15 PM »
Went to four locations on the weekend and the last location was waiting for the owner to pay the lein which delayed the auction 1 hour which was great for me as I was 30 mins away due to being at another auction. Well the lady was'nt able to come up with the money to stop auction!so I was the luck bidder at 510.00. Then as we were going through the unit it was horriable! Banker boxes full of newspaper and bags and totes full of newspaper! Year of newspaper (2008)I thought the unit was staged. Then going through more stuff found cloths and other stuff really not worth the 510.00. Then the lady called back and offered 700 so we sold the unit back to her. She was 35yrs old and has had 2 stokes and was using as cane. She owed storage company 1,000 she saved300 and I made 190.00. She was also basically homeless. I did go through as much as I could and really saw nothing of valuve we had 30 mins before she got there after we said we would take the 700. Got lucky on that one. The unit was stacked nicley as well. I did ask why she had so much newspaper and she said her brother passed away and she keep what he had in is house.
