General Storage Auction Talk / The last few auction the people
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:55:29 AM »
have really started to drop off. Use to get 40 to 60 now down to 15 -30. last 3 weeks have seen a huge drop off. Also storage companys have reported more people are paying off units. Guess the tv shows have impact on both renter and buyer. And a lot of people i have talked to sellers are having a harder time then ever selling due to as I have said this before to much supply and not enough demand.

Competitive bidding
Auctions motivate buyers to perform.  People often get caught up in the competitiveness of the bidding and many times this drives the price of items higher.  To some it’s like a game, and they want to win at all costs.  9 times out of 10, an auction brings in the fair market value, if not more, for any item put across the auction block!

Exciting atmosphere
There’s no more exciting atmosphere than an auction.  Crowds of people competing for property combined with that lively auction chant makes for some great entertainment and fun.

Auctions work well in all economic climates
People love auctions because they love sales.  Statistics show that auctions remain a steady force in good and bad economies alike.  When the economy is bad, the auction industry does not feel the impact as people still flock to auctions.

Very true, but there is a huge difference between someones drunkfest pics on Facebook and someones hardship in losing a storage unit due to none payment.  I smell a lawsuit brewing if employers are found to be doing this.
Most people lose there units to pure lazyness and weakness. Most people

Lol found moviemans post after posting. Clears up my misunderstanding.

I don't really think they would fire someone of their mess in a storage unit, unless that mess contains rec drugs or sex toys displayed up in the front of the unit, but you would imagine that stuff would be hide in a box somewhere in the unit. Also last time I checked defaulting on a bill was no grounds for termination. If someone wants to try that I hope they have a damn good lawyer.
Social networking can doom job prospects
Companies will hold naughty personal moments against you.

I do all the time. There will be no deals when I'm around. If people want to watch the storage tv shows and think this is going to make them rich then I say lets play. People love to pay reatil and if I can help stimulate the ecconmy then I feel good that I did my part. JK. I do if they are new and are wasting my time cause they are tv show buyers and they are trying to mimic what they see on tv. If you look desperate then your going to pay. And those that are unemployed at are at the auction make them pay even more. You should be saving your money or looking for a job and not an a auction. This is not an answer to your money problems. If your out of work go get a pell grant and go back to school. There is work out there for those who want to work. Get an education.

I would think maybe the few sites that are showing pictures of the units may have already seized the units?
They might be seized at the time but still can be paid off the day of or before is what they are telling us at the auction.

I can tell you from personal experience that when you get into financial difficulties, loss of income, things like groceries, rent or mortgage, gas, car note, car insurance, electricity, phone, water bills take priorty. Everything else gets shoved off the radar screen. It does'nt matter how many notices they send saying they are going to sell your stuff, when you are trying to keep a roof over your head and food on the table, those letters just don't get any attention.

You would think a rational person would take the good stuff out and sell it to make some additional income, but sometimes most of the stuff is personal, family heirlooms, stuff they want to keep, or they have just plain forgotten about how much valuable stuff is in the unit. When you are in a bad financial situation it can get real difficult to make rational decision, and I think we all know from what we find in the lockers that many people were not making good, rational decisions with thier lives before they got into financial trouble.
Thats why people need to start acting there wage And live with in there means. Seems like people want to be the top dogs and be show offs and that is where debt comes into play.

It all depends on the state you are in and the company.  Most of the places in my area post the first initial and last name of the person who has defaulted and a snippet description.  Others, the full name and snippet, and yet others just the name.  Legally they should be posting the name and a brief description of the contents.  They may take a picture to send to the owner but I've not found any websites w/ pictures for the facilities in my area.

example listings of upcoming auctions:
#229, Hillary Caldwell: table, radio, computer
Dorn Margaret Elizabeth unit # 348 all content
111: Cornwell, A.-Storage Containers, boxes and chest.
222 Harmon Jackson

Well in a right to work state they can fire you if they dont like the shirt you wear that day.In right to work states they dont have to have a reason to fire you.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: do you throw out 5$ incremental bids?
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:39:49 AM »
Depends. If there are alot of auctions that day and the unit looks great and you know its going to be 1000 dollar unit I start the bid at 600.00 why waste the day. People get mad at me for doing that but ifs its a good unit nobodys get a deal if im not. Jack that bid up cause seems like everbody wants to pay retail. But by starting the uints off high keeps things moving all day.

566
I'm lost here. What are you trying to ask? Are you behind on your rent? If not they shouldn't be opening your unit for any reason. If they are doing this, I suggest you find a new storage facility.
No Im not late. But some places post a pic of whats in your unit with you name and entice people to come to the storage facity to bid on there unit.

567
Yes, unless something crooked happens and someone else keeps it.

Maybe with all the attention now be drawn to buying at storage auctions the attorney generals and other state commissions will look into the laws closer and make sure everything is being donethe ways the law was written. just watch there will be something in each of our newspapers on how a storage company has broke the laws. With over 46,000  self storage companys in the U.S. somthing is going to happen.

568
can the storage compaines post a picture of my belongings on the web for everyone to see what I owned?  Now I have a risk of my unit being robed or say my employer see's what I owned and then judges me for my belongings and thinking I'm late on bills and could be in risk of being fired . Just like facebook employers fire employees all the time for a post they make. Makes me wonder if its legal to post pic's of a person belongings. Movieman brought this up in one of my post and its got me wondering if anyone has thought of this before.

Cool...appears to be a television station website service.

Someone in the forums might make a comment about this being "on the edge" since (at least in MOST states) the goods remain the frm locker owner's until the gavel falls...meanwhile a week or so earlier that frm owner's good are being displayed to the world.

Doesn't bother me, but some legal eagle here might have an issue with it.

Its tv and radio. But everyone that goes to the auctions sells on the site. I sold my gorilla racking 60 each in 4 hours after posting. Another good point is that the persons stuff is on display for everyone to see before auction. Just like the online bidding services out there. I would be pissed if my stuff was on display.
