I think the clothes do better at yards too. Will find out this weekend when we go to the Flea.

We have to many Hawks, Owls, and Bald Eagles, too worry to much about mice. LOL
But it does happen. Dog attacks the squirrels.  ;D

On the tax thing can count two weeks after the 18th. the money will start rolling in. Our Thrift wants to start stock piling for that time. She has had a lot of people saying they want that or this and will come when they get their tax money.  ;D

Dirty Laundry
Dirty laundry
Dirty laundry.

LOL

I really forgot about drugs and porn... I imagine there will be laughs and awkward looks when I find some...

Whole tread on how to sell the porn, and a few discussion on the drugs. LOL

Picker's Paradise / Craigslist email etiquette ????
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:08:11 AM »
With the Auction Scene a little slow here in our are have been staying on top of CL. Find a good score and respond by email. They give no phone #. I copy the email address and compose straight from my email account.  Does not work to just click on the ad.

I am not getting responses.  Is it the sellers or my email?

Found a bed for $10 emailed no reply Oh well A week later same add comes up, Email again finally get a response get the bed. ( nice antique youth bed ).  Spoke to the seller and told her I had emailed her on the first ad. Trying to get some feed back on why she did not respond. She was no help.  ::)

Another free bed emailed as soon as I saw the post and it was gone, Did get an email saying that.  :)

Found two nice dressers, two different adds. emailed both on Friday evening (moving fast good deal). Get a response on Sat morning @ 11:30 AM. We were out. Said both dressers were still available, and she had a lot of interest, and that the weekends were better for her. So I responded and said we could come right now. No response.  >:(

These adds have no phone #'s to call and I respond with my # even posted it is a local cell #.

When I bought our rabbits and cages took 4 emails to get the ladies #.

I will admit when I am responding I try to make it not look like spam. Copy the ad header and put in the subject line, but then I am short and sweet in the body.
Maybe to short  ???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well Craig did not do that great at Yard Sale. Mental note for next year may just skip this month all together on the yard sale stuff. LOL

And yeah Rockin we are like Craig  two this week with a small count. Good luck.

......Jarrod. He quickly hung up the phone. He decided to keep his new love to himself.  So he returned to his locker to look through the pile of musty smelling clothes and found.......

It always amazes me when people don't do basic cleanup of items when selling them.

Will agree with that at least a wipe of a rag. Or get the cob webs off.

I have tote full of Purses Going to take all those lovely plastic bags you get from the stores and stuff them inside. Nicer appearance for selling and I get rid of the bags.  :D  Do have knitted bags so I don't get so many of those bags but often forget to take them.  :-[

Got a cheesy particle board china cabinet, one of the front pieces of glass is missing. But have the glass shelves could make it as a display case. Small and light and has a light fixture in it.  Will see

Sorry for the delay in response. Did not make it on Sat. Weather was not good in the morning and cleared up after noon so held off until today.

Not a bad day moved some inventory we usually do better.

On the clothes did not sell a one. Gave $15 worth to the thrift lady, for using the parking lot.

My opinion is I think the totes did me in. (new method of selling) did not work. Also feel time of year/ and possible day.
Will try and set out the three sizes that sell the best (3T, 4T, & 5T). leave the others in the totes. Hitting the flea market next weekend.

Money.....

I admire your tenacity when working with clothes. I couldn't do it. I sell leather jackets, sports related jackets, work jackets, sports jerseys and that's about it. Better shoes  (mostly with boxes). Best Jordan's go on eBay where I recently sold two pair...one for $70 something and the other for $150 area.

Good luck with your clothes...I'm taking none today.

Well if we were getting better lockers may not have the tenacity to do it either. Unfortunately this unit had bags and bags and bags. So to much money to just give away.

But over all the kids clothes usually sell like hot cakes. There is some regular auction buyers and that is all they buy, sell at the flea market.

We did have a guy donate some things to us. Just pulled up and said I have some stuff I want to get rid of I said sure. Woofer box, Speaker in box, set of golf clubs. Sold the speaker and box for $5.00.
And had a good week from the thrift too.

I will let you know if do better at the Flea, and the first of next months yard.

Craig if you price it low enough people will take it. If mostly adult put in a tote and put .25 each. I would only put one out not to take up your table space, Could take more and just refill it.

Remember our first locker was all clothes and tripled our money on it and still have a lot left and they are gross.  ;)

Well Mr. Murphy decided to take a small dump on me after work.  On way home from work and thinking about what to take Saturday my check engine light came on and my oil pressure display was showing 0.  Called brother-in-law to come and get me with his truck and trailer.  So instead of making money I'll be spending money to fix my truck.  Talked about being pissed.

Man that stinks. Hope nothing major wrong. Our truck has a bad sensor, if you stop at a store and the engine is off for only a few minutes does not like to start up. The sensor is $250 so have not replaced it just set and wait for it to decide when it wants to start.

Mr. Murphy got me on the weather, bragging about how nice Florida is in the winter. 21 degrees the other day.

Hope you can get it fixed and sell next weekend.  ;)

Well Adult clothes I don't really move either unless mens LG shirts for work, and pants.

@ Buy-Low-Sell-High yes someone else on here does the same thing I am thinking about it. I still don't have a handle on my ebay stuff (mainly procrastination). Need to get it going again and move that inventory. Only a hand full of name brands the one pair of kids levis has a whole in the knee.

I sorted mine into sized bins. So what size? it is in that bin go digging.
Once I got my bins set up it was pretty fast sorting. Decided the trip to the laundry mat could wait have enough to take to the yard today. And really don't have space in the bins for those anyway sometimes less is more.

We are going to the flea next weekend (first visit). One of the regulars at the auction told us which one she goes to and it is close to us (we went there a long while back and nobody was there) She says she can't keep kids clothes either.  So will take the left over clothe inventory from previous yards there. Will mix them in with what is left from this weekend yard sale. Keeping it fresh.

The size thing drives me nuts.
Small, Med., Large, in kids and teens, and adult. Then you have x small.  ???

When we started loading up good grief have a lot of inventory. Don't think we will do to bad. We will see. We usually have the yard on Friday and Sat. And Friday is a killer day. Opted to attend auction instead so hopefully we will do well today. Could be Sat slow because we are picked over by then.

@ Craiglst  Sorry the fridge is almost a bust. And yeah adult clothes are a lot harder to sell. (friend of ours had some really large mens dress pants (3X) sold on ebay for $25.00 a piece.).

Forgot ended up with three bags for rags. Sell those to my neighbour for $5.00 a garbage bag full.

Sure am glad we don't have to be there early. : ).  We set up by the time the store opens at 9:30.

Will let you know how we do.

I think from now on I'm going to make a glorious effort to stay away from any auctions listed on auctionzip.

Don't use it much. I find other auctions on it.
We have one that advertises on Craigslist. A lot of people. Not as many as you had though.

The one we had yesterday we were Mooooooooooooing all were inside and the place looked like an old meat locker. LOL The crowed moved pretty well silent bidding.

Good luck on the yard sale picking.

Finally have gone through most of the clothing (think three bags left)

Found $ 130.00 in monopoly money... LOL

Have found $1.46 in real money.  A dollar that had been washed many times in a size 3T shorts LOL

Have ended up with nine (18gal) totes full of kids clothes. Think at .50 a piece that comes to about $50 worth in each tote.  Selling tomorrow. Selling the denim for $1.00 and jackets and hoodiess for $2.00
Have all sizes too Infant to teen.

One tote of adult clothes $25

Also have about the same amount to wash maybe more. Not into spending money on it but think will be ok sense most of it is kids and pretty nice shape some name brands, Fubu, levis, apple (?).

Have to go back through the smalls and see what that is at.

Just looked at the date of last post on this. Felt like it took me a month LOL  CLOSE LOL

We are doing our monthly yard tomorrow. And going to hit the Flea next weekend. Got a heads up on the two Flea markets we have been Brain F**%!** for the past two months.

Could not decide witch to try out first. Kept saying we need to go as customers and see what the scoop is and would never make it.

We get caught up in the yard sale finds. Still making money but winning the Procrastinators award for the year.

The lead we got was the one closer to us does good on Sunday. So we will reserve or spot for next weekend and see what happens.

Good Luck Craiglstauction... Get out of the dumps and sell some stuff.  :)

THEN, I just plain forgot about an auction yesterday, BUT there are always more auctions to come and I doubt the one I missed had those gold bars I am always looking for.

LOL Watching to much SW there Barry  ;)

@ Shmoopy Sounds out of control and way to many people. Sounds like you did good looking and seeing what you could see.

@acman good luck

@ CL Sounds like it is going to be a rough month for both of us.

Ok Went to one at 8:00 Am had to get up at 6:00 AM   :o  to get there on time.

About 50 people, had three come right up and say this is my first one (just shoot me). Saw a few regulars.
Silent bids, first for us. People moaning and groaning of how they don't like it.

14 Units. We through our numbers out there (well on paper). One of the new guys was talking that he had a total of $1000 in bids. We looked at him like he was crazy. He said I loose that in a month selling cars, I said this is a lot more work than selling cars. Buy the time we got back to the office he said he was going to change some of his bids. (not sure if he did or not). He won one.

They did not tell the $ amount of the winning bids just who one. Only one regular got one.

Took until 9:30 to finish auction so much faster with that many people.

Husband and I were talking about the grumbles of the silent part. The owners/ Managers were two older small women. My guess is they like the quite no yelling out bids, and no fighting/ Complaints about who had the bid ect.  All in all not a bad experience just wished we new the winning bid amounts.

Did get some Flea market feed back from one of the regulars. So good info there. Plus she does not like furniture units because it is only her. So another person to back up on the furniture stuff for us.  ;D

Also gave us a lead on a good Auction.  So worth the trip for the info.
