Sunday should still be an ok day to sell.  Most places close by around 4 and kick-off isn't till 6:30.

Good luck to ya Money.

eBay / Re: More eBay fees?????
« on: February 03, 2012, 03:55:25 PM »
Ya - I think they added it in at the same time they offered 50 free listings.  Between ebay and paypal I figure 13% fees.  It's 9% ebay and $.30 + 3% for paypal.

As Matches said you just adjust for it.  You can do the free shipping and just up your sell price.  Is the same thing as charging shipping.  May or may not get more "bites" that way.  I do mostly seperate fee for shipping, but I also use flat rate boxes most time.  So I know what the fee is going to be.

Welcome to the boards JCS.  I'm in GA but not Atlanta.  That said - washer/dryers do sell pretty well.  I do most of my sells of them via CL or to one of the other regulars that has a large thrift store.  Now if I sell to him it's a good 50% off the price but he will take them untested.

Now for matress/boxsprings - I run as far as I can.  People just don't want them.  I've even tried to give them away on CL and got no bites.  Atlanta may be different but who knows.  I see them in a unit I automaticly deduct $20 on my max due to trash run.  Atlanta dump fees I know are even higher.  One of our people here buys up there many times.

I've even tried to contact habitat for humanity to see if they want them and never got a response.  I really should burn them and scrap the metal since scrap most everything else.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Nazi Silver

Cobia - just got home and found my older coin book.  Think newest must be at work.  Anyways here is some of the info I have for ya.

1933 5 Reichsmark (depends on mint mark) in fine condition is worth 50 - 100 bucks.  Is 90% silver, .4016 oz so roughly $5 silver value at current spot.

1934 has two types of 5 reichsmark.  One style is worth $10 fine, other style $4-5.

1935 and up again all depends but figure $3.  So for those silver value is worth more.

2 Reichsmark is .6250 silver and weighs .1607 oz.  - avg value is $2.50.  A few year/mints are worth more.

The reichspfenning is worth $.10 or so.  That one I would sell for $.50 to a $1 just cuz of the swatsika.

These are the prices from my 2003 book.  So they may be higher by now.  If find my book at work I'll update this.

I sell old (1890 english pennies) to mid 1980s coins mostly.  It all depends on the country, denomination, grade to collectors or what is on the coin to other collectors.  Pictures of animals sell well for example.

As for price - I look up everything in my 2012 world catelog.  I do this to double-check the content of the coin for one.  I then take the lowest grade price unless the only price is for Unc / Proof coins.  Most of the coins are $.25, then I'll find a few that are harder to find and worth $.25 - $3.

I put all the coins in a 2x2 flip with the country and price on it.  The coins also sit in a metal coin bank.  So I get lots of interest from people looking for US silver, but also attracts the attention of mom, pop, or grand-dad who buy them for kids/g-kids.  Few collectors come by to see what I have to fill holes in their albums.

I have number of world bank notes that I may start selling also.  May pair them up with other coins and put them in some of these picture frames I have totes full of and sell as "sets".  So instead of $1 or $2 I can sell at $5 or more.  Plus, get rid of some picture frames.

I've tried a few clothing consignment shops and the ones I spoke with only wanted high-end retail items.  I even had some of the Justice cloths from when my girls were younger and they didn't want those.  So I've not tried one since.  90% of the cloths I get from a storage unit are your normal Walmart, JC Penny, Sears cloths.  Or they are rip/stained/crap ridden piles of cloth.

Cobia - I agree with you on the turn and burn.  I do that with the majority of my items.  However, on some items of furniture I'll sit and wait on it then sell.  Had a drop leaf table for $50 that I would have people offer me $10 many times at the flea.  I kept the table instead of selling it.  Two months later I put it back on CL and sold it for $50, with multiple people being interested in it.

Talked to one of my auciton buddies today.  He asked what furniture did I have as he needs more to sell.  Where I can't sell anything in my area he can't keep up (live 30 miles away).  So I'll either sell him my stuff cheap or go 50/50 with him.  So don't discounty your competetion as a resource also.

I'm almost surprised they held the auction with only 3 people.  Sounds like a gold mine you found - I'm jealous.

My 10am U-haul paid up at the last second.  Have a number of units at the 11am one but they are normally pretty trashy.  Will go mostly to look.  Report back on crowds later.

----
Well the trend continues from January.  Crowd of a good 50 people at U-haul downtown.  Mix of people I've never seen and regulars.  Units were better then in past auctions for this location.  Prices however again went north.  Unit with a 32" LG flat screen in front and furniture went for $710.  Unit before that was $500 something.  Both went to new people.  Few other units go by with too high prices I thought.  Watched another unit sell for $350 that we thought would be a $150 unit.  Lady that had been coming on strong all day with her bids won it.  Of course she didn't have a lock or anything.  I just started to shake my head and laugh.  She was buying for her daughter who was just getting married and starting out in the world.  Best unit for price was a $160 unit that went to one of the regulars.  Had a big projection TV in it and some other furniture.  He has a big thrift store so can sell it all pretty easy.  Should be a $200-$300 locker with little worry so he will prob double or triple his money.  Didn't stick around for the last unit.  Was told it had 6 matresses in it by the auctioneer.  Be safe money to say it went for $100 or more with how stupid people were being.

Two caravans next week with 3 auctions the week of 13th and 3 week of 20th.  Few places that only hold auctions a few times a year have them this month.  So we will see how things go.

Which coin demoniation do you have and year?  I can look it up in my book to tell you the silver content, etc.  I collect and sale world coins all time at the flea.  I'm still waiting to find me a collection or some of the other goodies I have on my "keep for self" list.

I do most of my selling in the following manner:

Ebay
Flea Market
Craigslist
Word of mouth

I've not yet tried but will prob start doing:

Facebook
Consignment

Most of the time any tools or things that would interest the pawn shop I end up keeping or selling at the flea.

Watch the matchbox cars also.  Red lines, first runs, older production style cars all can fetch some decent money.  After cherry picking a box of them I had most all the rest have sold for 50 cents each.  Only have a few duplicates and mcdonald type plastic toys left in the box.  Really could use some more as it is a crowd pleaser.

eBay / Re: Anybody ever sell their scrap gold or silver on ebay?
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:28:27 AM »
I wouldn't do ebay myself.  Just too much potential to be scammed.  Would be easy for them to say "not as described" and get money back plus keep items.  Also, this will sound sexist but did you get the prices or your hubby?  I ask as I've seen a few dealers lowball or try to intemendate the female customers and then give better prices to men.

Unless you need the cash right now I'd also just horde the silver/gold.  Gold has come up but is still down from the summer highs.  With China / India maybe going to gold to buy oil I expect the value of the dollar to drop and gold to increase in price.  Silver is more of a toss up.  I always hold out till $40 or more spot price myself.

On price when you buy it is normally spot + 5-10% premium.  When selling it is spot - a %.  It's that % that can greatly differ from buyer to buyer.

eBay / Re: Ebay items from storage lockers
« on: February 01, 2012, 06:36:23 AM »
The footlocker goes for $50 - $100 in my area.  I've had a number of people ask to buy my beat-up-to-hell locker that I use to move some of my glass and other knick knacks in.

As for my shipping mistake - I figured it out last night and after fee's, shipping, etc. I made a total $2.70 from the item.  So far I've done ok on shipping.  I charge people what the USPS.gov site says.  Save 5% doing online postage so that makes the ebay fee 4% on shipping.  I use the flat rate medium boxes ($10.85 now) mostly so I don't have to screw with different shipping prices.  Everyone pays the same no matter if is on east or west cost.  Now if it will not fit in one of the boxes that is a different story.  Many times I've also found it to be cheaper then packing the item a different way and shipping.

Now if the postal service closes the sorting branch in my city I'm screwed.  That will add a day or two to the shipping.  So instead of 2-3 days priority mail it would be 3-4 days.

LOL Movieman - now that made me laugh this morning.  Well Feb is starting out like Jan did.  One of my auctions for friday has already called and canceled.  That leaves me with U-haul friday if I can make it.  Meeting from 10-11 and then heading to Statesboro at 6am saturday.  So really don't need a locker but want to get a fell for the crowds.

Next week I have my caravan on the 9th and a 3 facility caravan on the 11th.  I'm almost afraid to go on the 11th as they canceled January's auction just to wait for people to get tax refund checks back before auction.

Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?

I typically don't give out my number.  I just put up with all the "scammers" via email.  I can just about spot them as soon as they reply to any of my post.  Love the "I'm interested email", then after reply you get "My son/dog/cat just got in a wreck/neutred/tail stepped on, and had to have surgery.  Luckly I just started this amazing job working at home (xyz)....)

I don't mind texting people, calling, or doing email.  Normally end up texting or calling for the last part of the swap.  I just prefer to try and screen some of these wacko's before waste gas.

I've only had 1 person stand me up with no call.  Had a few cancel at last min.  Did have one old guy say he was interested in this vintage fishing machine I had for $50.  He was only a few miles from me so met up in a parking lot.  He ask me to show him how it works, shot the bs for a bit, etc.  He then wanted me to sell it to him for like $5.  I was like your kidding me, no chance of that.  I then watch him leave and turn into the thrift / co-sign shop just down the road.

Be sure to get your weights and package size correct and not mixed up.  I just did a bone-head thing and undercut myself on shipping by 5-7 bucks.  Since this is one of the few times it's a CA buyer all my profit (if not a loss) is going to the toilet on a $10 item.  Had gotten in a habit of $5.35 flat rate shipping for all these smalls and this group of tapes just will not fit.  Dummy me.
