Only a few days left in November, 2012 and it's going to raining cats and a few dogs around here through the next few days...crowd should therefore be BIG !

Three regular auctions tomorrow the 28th and then a piece by piece on Friday.  Picking continues to do well.

Where are you located that it's raining so hard? Good luck with the picking even in the rain.

LOL

He actually found them at the bottom of a bag of Roman Meal. He was an instant winner.

We also sell seasonally and sold 80% of our christmas items at our September yardsale. The remainder we put up for sale as a bulk lot on craigslist. Three calls and gone the same day it was listed. Selling leftover inventory in cheap bulk lots has been better than throwing out or donating.
I like the large Lots listing at CList. That's a great idea! We did a flea market today with Holiday items and a bunch of Barbie Dolls that we got in a unit the past week or so. We sold so much Holiday items I had to get more out pf the trailer. We sold over 60 Barbie Dolls...loose ones at $1.00 and boxed ones from 4.00-6.00 with the $20.00+ better ones going up on eBay or Amazon. We expected to only get a little for the Holiday stuff but we actually did really good! One Yard Sale coming up if the weather allows and then maybe CList. Thanks for that idea

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist is ALIVE! Finally picking back up!

My experience has been exactly the same.  I did $1700 on CL last week, selling something every day between Wednesday and Saturday.  Nothing for a couple of days, then yesterday did another $300.

But, in the same space of time, my ebay has slowed down to a trickle.  I have a number of $400-$600 items up right now, and not a single one of the bigger items has sold.  Did sell some small stuff though, but it takes a lot of $20 sales to equal a $500 one!
It must be the area you are selling in. We haven't sold anything until yesterday for almost a month on CL. Haven't tried the ebay local pick-up yet but have been thinking of giving it a try. Wet weather has really put a damper (no pun intended) on sells!

My web designer and I have almost everything planned out and she will be installing the upgrade to version 2.2.2, the new template and the critical modifications on Monday. She will most likely finish installing the non essential modifications on Tuesday.

Hopefully, it will be a seamless transition.
Looking forward to seeing the changes. Good luck and I will watch for Tuesday's update!

I will start looking through everything and once I see it is going no where I stop and toss! If by chance I find a few good things such as old coins, (gold and silver in tied up socks) I will of course check further. If I find a bag of just dirty stinky clothing, it's dump time! Actually got another bidders unit one time (mgr. told me after the auction) and thought "Oh crap! This is going to be junk he didn't want and total garbage!") but it turned out he and his wife got into drugs pretty heavy and just stopped doing auctions and lost two units. Mine turned out to be very profitable. Lots of old silver coins, jewelry, gold, etc. Serious boxes of items he had apparently planned to come back and go through and never did. So, a long story short, I start cleaning and if it's looking good, I work harder at it. If not, it's gone in 60 seconds. :-) But then again, from reading above, a lot of you do this as a hobby, I do it as an income supplement.   ???

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Cost of units in your area?
« on: November 18, 2012, 05:51:49 PM »
A lot of the units lately have been going pretty cheap because they are garbage lockers BUT, when a good or decent locker does show up it can go for anywhere from 750.00 to 2000.00 in the Stockton/Sacramento areas. Also we have some gentlemen that once they get their teeth into a locker and their minds set, they will bid over 1K for units. Was told Thursday that a couple of them spent over 3K on two units each that were supposedly owned by the same tenants, but when they started going through them, they loaded the majority up and went directly to the dump. They are regs so they will be around but hopefully they are beginning to realize the good old days are gone.  :-\

Well, I lived in Houston 28 years and Los Angeles for 3 years, so yeah, 500 K is medium to me.

Only 10K people? Do you even have a storage facility in your town? ;)

:D Yea well, actually it's a guy that drives into an empty lot and opens the trunk of his car.  8)

What's it Worth?? / Re: antiqued finder
« on: November 17, 2012, 09:03:11 AM »
Hello I need help. I found a Singer sewing machine - 1922 model 127, and I want to know how much this is worth? Can anyone help me?

We sold our 1942 for 150.00. in Texas a few years back. Some people want them but it's hard to find the right people. Go to a consignment antique shop ask around those places. Some times they will be nice and refer you to collectors.

I like Barry I think the best. As my dad used to say, "He's as goofy as a pet coon!" (raccoon) If I had my "drathers", I'd rather learn from Dave Hester. He may be a butthead at times, heck not at times, most of the time, ;-) but I think he has a lot more reselling knowledge.

After doing a lot of thinking, I can make more money hitting up the thrift stores and buying items from them and going to the few yard sales that there are going to be that weekend, and be a lot less frustrated with people, than if I went to Black Friday sales. So the value just isn't there for me.

Good idea. News states Walmart, Target and Best Buys are raising their prices before Black Friday. Other stores prices are the same as last year except these three. Now, that's what the latest "News reports" stated and we know how reliable they are. ;-)

One thing we have noticed is that "some" people do not want to do the dirty work. They look for the obvious and never deal with the digging in handling of all boxes, tubs, etc. They haven't a clue that this job can be backbreaking, hard, dirty, nasty work! I told a young man yesterday, we were going through all these dirty purses checking like normal and in a child's tiny purse in a zipper area were two gold and diamond rings. Haven't a clue why they would hide them there but they must have forgotten, (our luck). Also, was about to dump a bunch of dirty socks and something clinked, found one tied at the end and it had old coins packed in it. You just never know what you will find in the oddest places, so you have to get dirty at times. :-) JMHO

Well, Texas has a good argument. It has the 14th largest economy in the world and a balanced budget. Why should it's citizens be forced to continue paying for mismanagement in Washington?

Signatures have now reached 94,760 and climbing.

Gov. Perry mentioned this a few years back too. He wanted to start his own Country didn't he?  :o
