Flea Markets / Re: Another rainout for the best flea in my area
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:55:39 PM »
Up at 6am, got all ready and friend decided it was to dreary out to hit the swap we had planned on. It wasn't  even raining! Hate being dependent on others for rides!
But now it's pouring! So I guess he called it right.

Was really looking forward to some pick'n. Plus we cut thru the reservation and planned on picking up some supplies .....and hit'n the $1.99 biscuits&gravy w/eggs special at the cigar lounge! :P

I do the mobile hotspot. $100 device, $60/month unlimited data.
Device is about the size of iPhone.
Can use that instead of getting data plan 2yr commitment on phone.
But can also run my iPad. Home Internet. Laptop. Xbox. BlueRay player.
Five devices can be run at once. Friends love it cause they connect to ghost in the car instead of wasting data plan. And I have Internet in hotels without paying $20/night.

Down side is you have an extra little thing to carry around. Not bad if I have laptop bag or out and about. But day-to-day, carrying it just for phone/iPod data is a pain, leave it in the car most times. Or the girls purse. :)

GameStop had 50% trade bonus on top of 10% membership bonus.
So went in and traded all the games and systems I've collected over the past year.

Was really surprised at how much it all added up to. Most of it I tried to eBay and not a bid to be had.
Only got $30 for the DS but some of the games were $20/ea.
They even took some items they normally don't buy since I had so much. Tho not the playstation's (first one) but play-n-trade will take those for $10/ea

Anyway...the point of this post in THIS thread.....
Was enough that instead of credit they gave me a used iPad 2!!

Had to get it from another store so won't get it till tue/wed.
Will give my review when I get it!!

Came thru surgery. Looks like I'll have plenty of downtime to research the in's-n-outs of repairing electronics.
They ended up not being able to do a lot of it arthoscopicly and had to do a full  incesion to remove bicep.
Means I have a full month of healing before I can start therapy or I might rip out the sutures.

I've been pretty drugged up but watching YouTube and browesing DIY sites on phone repair and other electronics.  If anyone comes across anything interesting or informative in this area, message me a link if you would.....

Step one) learn to do it
Step two) learn to do it with only one arm!  lol

What's it Worth?? / Re: Antique Table
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:01:31 AM »
With only the pics to go by, not knowing manufacture or anything.....it's old, not antique in my circles
Under $100.
But I'm not a table guy. Do well with chairs and end tables but not the larger pieces.
CL here is full of old tables cheap so maybe it's this area

The Treasure Chest / Re: Wish I could smelt!
« on: March 29, 2012, 05:42:47 PM »
Well, I know the possibility is slim they could find out but if they did he wouldn't be able to get a job anywhere. And all mines know the chemical structure of 'their' gold so if we tried to sell it to smelt they would know right where it came from.

I'll try to get some picks up. The viens are truly beautiful.
And crystals so clear and smooth you wouldn't believe they were just plucked from the earth.
They look cut and polished!  Now those we can sell. Mine doesn't care about those.

I rent a room to a friend since he's only in town maybe a week a month.
He works gold mines all over.  This latest job they set allowed to take quarry for souvenirs.
Brought back big chunks of quarts with bueatiful lines of gold and silver thru them.

Unfourtunatly the company will prosecute if they find you are selling it. We did the math from what this mine is rated at and each rock has about $50-100 in gold, plus the silver

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink....

At least I'll have some nice book ends when I cut and polish .....and my nephew thinks he's rich now. lol

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: u-haul?

Very helpful here.
Same as above as far as auction date. Same day every month.

48hrs to clear out. Though I saw paper work saying same day but they don't hold you to it.

They'll even give you a discount on truck if they have no reservation for one.

That said.....
This is all from hanging around. I've never actually won a u-hail locker so I can't say how they are to deal with after auction.
But very nice in all my dealings with employee's.

I've done some minor DIY stuff and enjoy it.
Have some broken iPods and 'decent' phones to practice on.

Brother says it's all a total b*tch at first but once you've done a few, learn the programing and have patch scripts written (or downloaded) it's really pretty easy.

Also have three broken xBox's that I had listed for parts but no takers so I ordered parts from china and will sell.
Friend has the set up to make it so they can read burned game disk but not so keen on that idea. 1) I KNOW thats illegal and 2) you can't go on xbox live with them so ur standard buyer doesn't want them.

I'll give it a shot. Got all I need so if it doesn't work out it's just my time and I have plenty of that in the next month.......

Since I'll be pretty much house bound I'm looking into "service" rather than "product" ideas.
Rebuilding xBox's. Cell phone screen and iPod/iPhone battery replacement.

Does anyone know that actual legalities of unlocking/jailbreaking phones?
Only have done a cursory google search, didn't come up with a definitive answer.

Been on a selling rampage and today looked at my stuff and I don't have anything left!
Some hard to sell items, some scrap but nothing really.

Auctions. Picking. CL Free. Can't find much.

Surgery on Wednesday so unless I come up in the next two days I'm out of business for a while.

Was really hoping to spend my down time just selling.
Guess I'm stuck with day time tv......

I was with Amtrak. Tho I was on-board. Railroad is a life style few can ever understand...
Hats off to you guys in the yard. Thats brutal work.
My biggest problem (besides 5 20hr shifts in a row every other week) was I could never remember where I was! Sleep deprivation and 3000mile runs really F with ur head!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #3...March, 2012

I'm with ya.
I stopped WAY before the shows. Started again and shocked at the difference. Also going from industrial/business lockers to personal lockers is something to get use to.

With industrial, even if 30 people showed, everyone had their specialty. Door opens and 25 just walk away.
Now you got everyone bid'n on everything!

Everyone keeps saying "let the noobie loose a ton and they won't be back."
But everyone that leaves is replaced by two more!

Went to one last month that the auctioneer asked who was attending an suction for the first time. Out of 22 people, 14 raised their hand! And gotta figure some were embarsssed to admit it.....

I'm still going but my focss is more on picking and automotive.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Scrap metal - is it worth it?
« on: March 18, 2012, 05:55:26 PM »
You do it by hand!? Respect. Way to lazy for That....

I had a hand crank stripper (no comments) but thought I'd weld a socket onto where the hand crank attached then stick my drill on it......it worked great.....for about 10' of wire. Then the whole thing siezed up on me.....    :-\
