General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keep it or sell it?
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:17:43 AM »
SELL SELL SELL, I do trade up on furniture and I keep any tools i can use. Sometimes I wear jewelry a couple of times before I sell it. Wore a Mens 14Kt bracelet and ring with a vintage 1960's watch for my nephews wedding and sold them the next week. Other than that the only thing I like to collect is Benjamins....

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: $10,000 Storage Unit?
« on: December 22, 2012, 08:35:07 AM »
Yes I made over $30,000 on a unit and still have merchandise worth around $12-15K, I posted it under The Treasure Chest titled "my best unit in 2012"

Wont disclose that, but I do carry a handgun :-X

Definitly, That is a win win. Saves me from having to sell an item and saves me from buying an item. Time = money, especially since i pay someone else to sell my stuff. This year I let my sisters and nieces pick jewlery from my collection, mostly sterling silver. Saved me from having to spend $150 -200.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Have you ever MIS-DIRECTED a NEWBIE ?
« on: December 22, 2012, 08:05:03 AM »
Was at an auction with my brother and a neewb asked him after the first unit if that was it or if there was more units and he responded "One and done" the guy actually left and there was three units to go...was laughing all day at that one. :D

You should go to every auction you can. I try to but lazziness sometimes wins over auctions. Now another buyer I know doesn't miss any and it payed off the other month. He showed up at an auction and was the only buyer, bought 2 lockers for $1 each...Lucky Bastard

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Are you a Storage Auction Gambler?
« on: December 22, 2012, 07:54:25 AM »
I will tend to gamble on low priced lockers $200 and under, at that price it doesn't matter to me. If all I can see in a unit is a safe and nothing else intriguing I dont care. Almost allways they are empty and the unit brings too many bids. Now I will gamble if the unit has what I like to call the "uniqe factor". For example I purchased a unit last month, all you could see was a large fake flower arrangment about 3 foot wide and 2 foot tall covered in plastic and appeared to be from the 1960's, a framed picture of a creepy clown, 1950's childs high chair, a small old tackle box and 40 or so boxes most small to med size. What interested me was some of the boxes had written on them words like mysticism and hypnotation, also cameras and films.
Now everyone was making fun of the clown picture and ugly flowers but what they werent paying attention to is the odd table it was on. It was florescent green with a spiriling florescent orange stripe running up the center. So some guy ran me up to $430. Everyone was laughing at me for overpaying on junk. Well the ugly flowers everyone was laughing about, calling them a dump run was actually a stage prop for a magic act the flowers are made from feathers and the whole thing folds down into a tube, and low and behold a brand new one cost...drumroll please $3800 yes score, mine is worth about $8-900 used, and half the boxes were filled with magic trics ranging in value $10 - $200 each. Also in the back was a velvet painting chest high and about 3 feet wide, which I have on Ebay right now for $700 and have 7 watchers and over 130 views. There is some other cool stuff as well. So yes I will gamble sometimes but only if it is unusual.

The best metal in computers is gold. I also take apart phones and get a decent amount of gold out of them. You would be suprised how fast it can add up.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Total Waste Of A Day
« on: December 21, 2012, 10:34:59 AM »
I went to host of auctions in Harrisburg PA the other month from 8am - 330pm strait through,  every damn unit went for triple what it was worth. For example a unit with a moldy small bear skin rug and stuffed cub and 1 piece of junk furniture"firewood" sold for $1200 and that was one of the better deals that day. Completely insane bidding wasted a whole day, I normally don't get mad about auctions but I needed a drink by the end of that day...
