The Treasure Chest / Bought six lockers last week and found
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:16:41 AM »
Way in the back i found 2006 harley road king under shipping blankets and yes the key was there. This is my biggest find ever! This unit went for 1050.00. The main thing that everyone saw and was  bidding on was the Kawasaki 60 dirt bike and the tools,rc cars. Now alot of people arent doing this and its a shame. PEOPLE USE YOUR FLASHLIGHT! REPEAT USE YOU **** FLASHLIGHT. Now I didnt see the harley with the flashlight but I did see a tire and shinny part of a rim which I thought was a just a regular bike. Also there was a trek 4300 series which we all did see so I asumed it was another bike. Now if you dont use your light its just foolish. Get on your knees and use that light and take a minium of 2 good looks at every unit. The only way to buy is with using your light and getting 2 good looks anyother way is just foolish and that is costly. Also PRICES re comming down. When I buy over 6 lkrs lowest being 550 and that was for 12x30 and 10x15 at 340 that tells your people have learned that retail is not away to make money. Remember only bid on what you can see and use that light. If you buy without using a your light youin could and will miss details that can be costly.

Well people pay to store trash due to be lazy so I can see some one throwing jewlery in a box and thinking Hey I can get this out latter. Plus when moving if you put jewelery in a box you dont loose it in the move.

603
Why in the hell would a man or woman with 1/4 of a brain leave any form of gold or silver in a storage unit????  I think I am a fairly intelligent guy, and I can't for the life of me figure out who is that foolish.  EVERYONE in the world has enough room to store those small items.
Well two weeks ago we bought a lkr for 200.00 and found 6 gold braclets 14k and sold them for 2444.42

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Are prices finally back??

Things are far from back to normal in most parts of the country!! Luck you! Where you located?
SLC,Utah. Last 7 auctions with a minum of 5 units per location (SEEING 35 UNITS) and think people have learned paying retail just wasnt working for them. Maybe storage bors sent a hidden message telling people there is no award for spending so much and getting so little. The idea and common sense tells you Buy LOW and sell High. Not buy HIGH and sell LOW. As you and other smart buyers know if you didnt get a great LKR today there will  be a better or just as good LKR comming up soon. I beleive people are starting to learn tough lessons in the auction world. Some people don't know the stove is hot and will burn you t'll they touch it and other knows its hot and will burn you.

I'm interested in how inflated the prices will get once the viewing base gets out of hand.  Good for you bad for the buyer.  I own a restaurant and understand that business is business, but this kind of business may kill off the industry once people begin paying retail for every unit.  I am interested to see what the future holds.
I also like cash only auctions,  keeps many of the undesireables from bidding to the extreme as they can't use the credit card that they will eventually default on to purchase the locker.
Sometimes I'm just bitter.
Going to have to agree with you 100% on this. I like the cash only part as well due to creidt cards will take it to the extreme. Also price are getting back to normal now at the live auction and seeing the unit up and close is the way to buy a locker.

General Storage Auction Talk / Are prices finally back??
« on: September 08, 2011, 10:18:10 AM »
And not getting that many people has been great! The last 7 live auctions I have been to have been great! Just great. Prices are back to normal it seems. The average price is around $450 for 10 x 15 and $ 600-700 for 10x 20. Its been great not having the crowds cause the best way to buy a unit is to get a good real world look at whats inside not photos but a on your knees with a flashlight look. Hopfully this is a sign of better and great things to come. And with gas prices dropping its not as bad driving to location to location with lower gas prices.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: 343 people showed

And everyone has to get a good look, like they even have the cash in their pocket.  I called out some 15 year old kids today because they were taking forever to look into a 10x10.  I said "your allowance isn't quite big enough to get this locker boys".
And you are correct on the money part. Its like people think they are going to get a unit for under 50 bucks. People just dont have the cash to bid and all they are doing is taking up space.

General Storage Auction Talk / 343 people showed
« on: September 02, 2011, 04:08:11 PM »
up for the auction in my state yesterday right after watching storage bors the night before. Only 16 people bid! And the price were so high and for nothing but junk I tell you. Not one of the vetren buyers even placed a bid. So the moral of the story is advoid Tuesdasy and thursdays for a live auction. Seems like after the show people come out like chickens getting feed at a farm. Too funny

Have to say I have bought the best stuff off this site.

610
That has to be the worst show I have ever watched well watched 15mins of it and turned the channel back and forth. The show is to be about buying units! Where and why would the make a show with Q and A's. You go to an auction you bid and hopefully win you load and unload and sell! Why make a one hour show on meet the people. VERY STUPID.

611
And the newbs just cant wait to pay retail prices.

612
I doubt if it would be a big seller. After all, most people do not place their belongings in a storage unit thinking they might lose them for non payment.
Same with loans, people dont ever think they will loose those either, Or get full auto coverage cause they think they will never get in a wreck. Or earthquake, flood insurnace for there homes. Maybe its more to keep them aware of what could happen, use the old fear factor.

Friday, August 12, 2011...

Went to 2 of 4 auctions today by the same auctioneer; here;s the count:

"Bidders".......60; 5 regulars, 55 newbies.

Lkrs.....8 at each location; nothing special. I didn't bid on one due to quality and prices; a couple I would have bid on and won 7 months ago....today prices were double what I would pay.

Here's a pic of the crowd; some are still coming out of hallway door to the left out of frame.

Here are 3 pics of a pretty nice lkr with an "older" look; this one sold for $1,100 and plenty of us would have paid $500 or so for it.

Maybe next time? Getting a little discouraged !
And they all want to pay retail!

615
Like they do on loans, etc to pay for a unit up to a year so you wont loose in an auction. (auction preventaive insurance)if you loose your jobs or what not. I will look for the article. Guess since auction buying is ever so popular now-a-days the insurance companies want a piece of the pie. Maybe as an incentive the storage companys will offer 6-1 year of the insurance to get future tenants business.
