lol. I think alot of people get into this thinking its gonna be like the tv shows. You get one big ticket item, take it down to your expert and sell it for 3x what you paid for the unit. i think most people refuse to accept the fact that yeah you will hit those liqs but most of the time its clothes, dishes, dish racks, garbage cans and things you gotta really hustle and nickel and dime on craigsilst and flea markets and garage sales. Most people won't put in the work in my opinion. I think tht's the reason most people fail.

I ship a ton of stuff through Fedex. A while back started using Fedex COD where you as the seller send the item and the driver picks up a Cashiers Check before handing over the package.

I had a few smooth transactions and had a buyer make a big purchase of $7,000. I sent the merchandise in two packages splitting it up half nad half and sent them out one day apart. First package Fedex driver in Georgia leaves the package on the doorstep without picking up a check at all.

The second package was already in route before I knew about the first so that's why I got screwed twice buy Fedex incompetence. second package driver picks up a personal check instead of a cashiers check. Not only a personal check but the guys address and info wans't even at the top it was temporary checks.

Put in claims with fedex. Fedex offered me $100 for each package. They claimed they didn't insure the type of item I was shippign. I told them insurnace or not they are not following their own policies regarding their COD service. This went up to the CEO, executive team, investigation dept etc. Still offered the $100 per package. This isn't criminal on the art of the customer in his state so have to go after him in small claims, also suing Fedex as well.

Just wantd to warn you guys not to use fedex cod. One othr problem I and others have had even if everything does go smooth is sometimes with cod since customers have not paid a penny they are not home or are never around to get their package. If htey dont pick up after a certain amount of time the package comes back to you and you're out $30 for cod service and you dont even sell your rpoduct.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at the Storage Auction
« on: November 15, 2012, 03:38:43 PM »
I'll occasionally have people come up to me after an auction and either give me a business card or their phone number and say hey if you come across any stereo equipt give me a call or if you find any sports cards gimme a call. I like it, sometimes I can sell on the spot, if nothing else add another buyer to my rolodex.

eBay / Re: Account Sell Limits
« on: November 15, 2012, 03:37:10 PM »
Here's the key with account limits. Keep your feedback at 100% and your DSR scores as high as possible. As long as you do this every 30 days your eligible for a 33% increase in your limit. Even if you don't need the 33% bump ask for it and you shall receive. Better to have more limit than you need than not enough. At times I've gotten them to give me a 50% upgrade on my limit however I was really begging and pleading with the lady and she wound up doing it. In less than a year I got my ebay selling limit raised from something lik e7k or 10k up to 250K where I'm at right now and it continues to rise.

eBay / Re: UPS, eBay and PayPal changes
« on: November 15, 2012, 03:32:25 PM »
Well I won't be using UPS ever again. I use USPS, Fedex, and UPS however the only real reason I offered UPS was because printing labels thru paypal was so seemless and easy. Othre than that they are expensive, not as good as fedex, and its a pain having to log into an entirely diff site an plug in all your info...maybe not for one package but when your doing 15-20 a night it becomes a pain. Really surprised they are donig this.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Top Buyers Share Info
« on: October 02, 2012, 03:07:09 PM »
In my opinion this thread and the other one they started today is just plain insulting and is worse than spam.

I agree, this belongs in the plugs section it ads no value aside from a backlink nad a plug for this site.

That said I have a storage auction site and hav promoted it here before however its kind of common knowledge and kind of common courtesy to be a contributing member of the site. If ur first post or first five posts are all plugging yourself it comes off as spam and your not a member of the forum or community just dumping ur spam here.

Also if your going to add a link at least add something of value. For example if a discussion is going on about what to do when you find a gun add some commentary and if you have a post on your site about gun laws state by state link to it and comment on how that post of urs can be helpful. To just genrally say hey skip the forums and come visit my site is kind of rude and will get the responses you've gotten here.

I'm obviously not the owner of this site but that's jut my two cents on general forum etiquete and as you can see by the responses you got I think heeding my advice would benefit you.

eBay / Re: WOW, PowerSeller Discounts Really Add Up!!!
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:15:42 PM »
I have been doing the top rated seller / powerseller thing for a while now. I have not had one single return nor have I had any problems with the 1 day shipping thing.

Anyone who's a professional seller vs just a casual seller selling something out of the basement should probably have no longer than a two day handling time at most so not a super stretch to make it one day handling time.

Also, though I suppose maybe its gaming the system a bit techinically you only have to print the shipping label within one day you don't necessarily have to mail the item within one day. Sometimes I may not have time to make it to the post office but as long as I get the label printed if I actually put the package in the mail a few hours late or a day late it's never caused me a problem.&

I know with certain categories like books i suppose you could have people buying a book and then using their 45 day time to read it and return it intead and basicall yget a free read out of you. Same with tools someone may need to use once and never again or clothes where maybe they wear it once and return it.

Fortunetly for me my category of item is not something that would make any sense doing that for and honestly I think majority of people on ebay are not out looking to screw you.

That said if it makes sense take advantage of it. If you sell for long enough and enough items on ebay eventually our going to run into one of those bad buyers or a troubled sale eventually whether you do the powerseller stuff or not but I do see how some may think it opens them up to more likelihood of this happening if they sell certain categories that are more prone to being abused. The savings overall save me a ton of money though.

eBay / WOW, PowerSeller Discounts Really Add Up!!!
« on: August 08, 2012, 12:15:35 PM »
I'm a powerseller and a toprated seller on ebay. I know recently we have had some discussions about whether it's worth the hassles of having to take returns, get product out in one day, etc.

Just wanted to let you guys know how big the breaks on shipping can be. On priority flat rate envelopes which I ship alot of it's not a huge savings maybe 0.50 cents, however on USPS Express FLat Rate Envelopes it used to cost me $18.95 however recently went down to $12 with my discount.

This means I can offer express overnight shipping for a lower cost and give my customers deals or I can charge normal shipping cost and make an extra $7 per order.

The discounts definately help out so I would encourage people to consider being a powerseller if your on the fence, especially if you sell volume as this adds up quickly. Every hundred orders I ship that's an extra $700 for me.

The show has become a total sell out! This is the worse season the show has ever had it went from buying units to total gimmick. I bet two more season then its done.

when the show first came out it was kind of a cool novelty since there was a show about something im doing. yeah the show has gotten cornier but lets be honest it sucked from the beginning. i cant stand to watch it anymore

eBay / Re: Seller update on fleabay
« on: July 26, 2012, 10:25:08 AM »
That actually depends on how the buyer chose to search. If the buyer sorts by price+shipping and a seller isn't top rated but his identical item costs less than your's, well then he is listed first. Same thing holds true if sorting by time ending soonest. The only time that I can see the top rated label making a difference is when the search is by relevancy.

This is true but the default search is relevancy unless someone changes it to item ending soonest or lowest priced. Also, I'm not positive about this but when searching by lowest priced I imagine the powerseller/toprated seller gets top placement over non powerseller if they are tied on price. also because powerseller gets a price break in an ebay world where everyone seems to be getting the same junk from the same suppliers that couple percent they save may allow them to sell at a lower price

i agree with moviemans sentiment though it may not be worth the potential headaches if your product categories are something someone will use and return.

I'm a top rated seller and a power seller and have been keeping up with these requirements for a while now. I move anywhere from 300-500 items a month usually on the lower side.

I have not had a single return. Also, you just have to print the lable the first day it doesn't have to go out the first day in terms of handling time. Obviosly you dont want to make a practice of printing labels and shipping later however there are some days when I can't make it to a post office by 5 and as long as I pritn out the lable and ship the next day i'm in line with the requirements.

The big thing about being a top rated seller is not the discount though every little bit helps, especially when your moving volume. The biggest thing is you show up better in searches. As a top rated seller I will show up above someone who isn't a top rated seller, plus the confidence it gives buyers probably helps too.

I can see how people selling storage locker items may not like these new policies though. The nature of the product I sell makes it easy. My product people know what they are getting, there's no surprises. There's really no possibility of somene saying its not as described or broken so for that reason I don't worry about returns and have never had one.

With storage auction wares however whethre its used toys, clothes, etc you run the risk of having a picky or unrealistic person who will find something to complain about and want a return. Overall I think its probably worth it though.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Kids at Auctions
« on: July 22, 2012, 11:17:10 AM »
i imagine kids see the show and want to go with their parents and i get paretns trying to teach kids how to be independent, find your own ways to make money, hustle, teach kids the value of money, etc, etc, etc.

taht said it can be annoying too. i agree if its learning the family business or something i think the parents take it seriously and keep kids in line and out of the way. othertimes however its people rolling thru with a double stroller or toddlers ontheir shoulder.

that just slows down the whole auction process, clutters the narrow isles at indoor facilities, etc.

this whole bartering phenomenon is nothing new. obviously people been bartering forever but even more recently a few years back some kid got a lot of attention for trading a paper clip to begin with and winding up with a house at the end trading up all along the way. obviously the kids notoriety probably helped him and he got better deals strictly because of who he and people trying to help him accomplish that goal but none the less a cool story.

ive always liked bartering. as they say one mans junk is another mans treasure. often times something your going to maybe even throw away is osmething someone else is lookinng for and something thats been sitting in their attic for years not getting used may be something you want.

i used to build beanbag / cornhole games and trade and sell them on craigslist. id often trade for sporting event tickets. the guys who had the tickets generally had season tickets thru work so not only did they not pay for htem but htey weren't goign to use them anyway so worthless to them. me on the other hand would otherwise have to drop big bucks for tickets especially good company lower level tickets so id trade them cornhole aka beanbag games which cost me about $12 in supplies and a little bit of time. we both got a good deal and were happy. i used to do this alot.

I know some of you have storage auction blogs and websites, all of you probably have ebay accounts or maybe your own online store or brick and mortar store.

I'm looking for some new content, fresh content and maybe a differnet perspective on storage auctions for FreeStorageAuctionLists.Com in the blog section.

If you'd like to do some guest blogging on the site I'd be happy to allow you to write a bio and also do a free plug for your site, ebay store, online store, hubpage or whatever it is you want to plug.

I'm pretty much open to any an all subject matters related to storage auctions, whats the resale market like, ebay tips, craigslist tips or even just funny stories and or experiences relating to storage auctions. Basically as long as its not just a press release or ad for your site and actually has some content and info I'd be happy to post it and give you a free plug. If your interested either contact me through the forum or send an email to [email protected]
