Ya that sounds very flaky, like he was there just to run the bid up.

Im not much of a car guy either. However giving that this a classic, with some prestige, but with NO ENGINE. I wouldnt have gone higher than $600 for it. Unless I was a car collector that loves to restore, then I probable would go as high as $1,500.

How much did it go for? And I see alot of dust, how long has it been there, 10 Years?

Nice lkr, I am jealous, lol. I know what everything is, and you will do real well with this locker. However there is one thing I saw I dont know what it is. The second to last picture, what is that?

I think the whole regular posters is the issue. With new faces  you get new takes on a subject, new people sharing finds, new people asking advice. It's basically the same 4 or 6 of us gonig back and forth. I think if more people started getting involved in questions and answers things would be a lot more lively.

Have we covered everything there is to say about storage units? No. Have we coverd everything myself, movieman, ironman, jross, jose, mr a, and drew have to say to each other about storage units? Yes.

And I agree, which is exactly what I meant it is starting to get stale in here with the same posters.

Yes, MOST would be picked up locally, but I once got a batch from Denver which they sent me, and as I recall they even paid for it...don't know how that happened, but it was only one box about 18" square.

I see some of them that will ship it to you, always wanting to charge freight. But wow, never seen one were they will ship it to you and THEY pay for it.

Be glad you didn't get the 1,000 dozen chain saw files I got. You would have had to drive from TX to CA...shipping them to you would have been VERY EXPENSIVE from a weight standpoint !  ;D

lol, thats why most of the stuff I go for in the state of Texas, within a 3 - 4 hour drive from San Antonio. Most I have seen is they want you to come in person to pick up anyway.

I usually sell them off as bulk. Something like 10 cases for $5.

Lol, I am already one of your direct comps :). Been doing those online govt auctions longer than I have been doing storage auctions.

Most of the stuff I go for is rare collectible stuff or computer and IT stuff. Every now and then tools. But like modern tech gadgets, they go up in price farely quickly.

What I want to do is get into police autcions in person.

I would have to say 3 totes full of sports memorobilia. Alot of it being signed by the whole 2004 Longhorns Team. If you dont know that is one of the years that Vince Young attended UT.

I generally just go for it if I want it. I dont bid people up just for the hell of it. It is kind of frowned upon where I live. All the vets here are well freindly, and have same mind set, they want it, they go for it. However I do slowly bid or jump the bid up high. Depends on who I am bidding against.

It is getting a little stale with the small handful of constant posters. I dont feel like I miss much if I disappear for a few days. However that is not the reason for my abscence. I just been super busy. Sales are pretty slow so I been having to contract myself out again.

My best unit, is really a tie. One for being the most profitable, the other because of what I found. First locker ever, the one I got my locks in :). Had two big totes full of Signed Sports Memorbilia, sadly because people dont buy them that much no more and some were damaged I didnt make much money off of them. I made total $400 profit, which is a little bit less than double what I put into it. Paid $450 for the lkr, and got $850 for everything, I think I might even have some stuff from it still.

The most profitable, the lkr looked ****ty as hell, but I decided to take a gamble, something told me this was a good lkr, just because the tenants were hounding abotu bnot selling their locker, taht they are on their way. Which come to find out they were not coming till the next day. Anyway, I paid $180 for it. I made that with a box that had several game systems in it. 2 PS 2 controllers, NES 64 with no power cables, gameboy, xbox game, Nintendo DS, and Gameboyadvance. Everything else was pure profit. Box of jewerly that I sold of as scrap gold and silver made $200 with that, a lawn chair that I kept, a whole bunch of baby furniture that I sold off for an additional $250. Cant remember everything in that unit that I did good on, but those were the big ticket items.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Worst Unit?
« on: May 26, 2011, 02:38:16 PM »
Mt worst unit, that is easy.

I bought a unit for a little over $300. It looked great from the outside. Full of furniture and neatly stacked boxes, and like 2 trash bags. Problem was after I started cleaning out the unit, I realized I should have never bought this one. All the boxes and trash bags had nothing but personals and trash, literally trash, apparently this guy didnt believe in taking his stuff out the trash. Then there is the furniture, everything is broken or in some other form or fashion unsellable. I did manage to make $200 back, so I was only down $100 or so. Sold two TVs for $50 each, held on to them what seemed like forever. Then one of the pieces of furniture was a broken solid wood entertainment center. I actually cut it down and restained it turning it into a coffee table which I sold for $100 afterwards.
