In Cali, you can live in the ghetto and still get $350k for a house. The real estate market there is INSANE! A $350k house out there would go for $70-$90k here..

Normally I don't care if they go through the units because I just bid on what I see.. But when they take EVERYTHING!! than it's just not worth the gas to drive around to see couch after couch after couch.. I mean, who rents a 10x20 unit to store a couch and a washer OR dryer.. Yes.. washer OR dryer, not washer AND dryer.

Aw heck, for a moment I got all excited that I wasn't going to have to hear, "don't forget to pay the lady" being screeched out anymore.

I think what bothers me more is when they flirt with each other.. in an overtly sexual manner.. to the point where that bass (boing) is played.. My wife always yells "eewww!" and I have to agree..

Haven't you heard of the new scrap plastic bag and other unidentifiable junk yards? They're paying $400 per plastic bag and medicine cabinets go for $250, $300 if the mirror is cracked or missing..

They can't take it with them, and the family usually doesn't have the space to store it all. The way I look at it is, I'm doing them a favor by moving it for them quickly..

To your point of underpaying.. To the heirs, you're not underpaying. Last weekend, I picked up a Robot Discovery vacuum for $15. Box was unopened. There was no price on the box, I asked how much they wanted, they told me $15. So I paid them what they wanted. If they said $50, I would have paid $50. But to them, it was worth $15. I don't feel bad for not telling them that I would have paid $50.

Today's 22 caravan was a complete bust. Not going back to this facility any longer. I went 2 months in a row, and I keep getting that sinking feeling that they're pillaging the units. There were 3 units that were worth bidding on, but the price was real high.. Because the crowd was itching to spend their money.. It was real suspicious when every single locker had 1 couch with a cushion missing and either a washer, dryer, or fridge in it.. and nothing else. Next month, I'll consider my gas savings a win..

Dan and Laura were not on the 2nd ep. of this week's show. However, they both have tweeted that everything is good and they expect to remain on Storage Wars. Darrell tweets insinuated that Hester is behind the proliferation of the rumors..

What I do with toys is donate anything I can't get at least $1 for. In this room, I've got at least 100 toys that I can charge $1 for, I put it in a bin out at the flea market and let the kids go nuts. My kids play with the toys, which attracts other kids, and their parents!

We charge $1 a piece for kids clothes, no matter the brand, and we've done okay with that.

In this unit, there was a very nice, very clean girls crib set. The set probably retailed for $120-$150 based on the brand. I'm gonna ask $50. Also have a lamp with similar design, will as $20 for that. Also found lots of women's clothes which sell decently. Good thing is a majority is either jeans, which we sell at $5 ea. or summer dresses, which we'll also ask $5 ea. Also had a crib, which was recalled. But I repurpose the pieces of crib to make X-Mas tree gates. Will have to hang onto them for a while, but I've got a decent stock of them anyway.

Between everything I'm seeing profit, but it'll be nickel and diming stuff.. No "wow factor"... except for a silver/pewter plate from the Pension Mathey in Geneva Switzerland. The Mathey is a hotel which burned to the ground in 1929. The plate is pretty gnarly, wonder if it was rescued from the charred remains of the Pension Mathey fire? hmmm...

General Storage Auction Talk / Toys and Kid Stuff.. Good or Bad?
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:24:13 PM »
Many people at my auctions seem to run away from lockers filled with kid stuff. Toys, clothes, beds, etc. I'm not talking collectibles, just every day kid items. I bought a locker with a lot of kid stuff (and other stuff too). I paid $300 for about 15 boxes, a crib, and lots of visible toys. No big surprises in this unit, but we've had good luck with toys at the flea market we set up at. How do you guys treat units with toys? Are you jumping for joy, or running away?

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Pop-Up Shops
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:17:23 PM »
The issue I see with it is in order for a pop up shop to be successful one of 2 things needs to happen. 1. You have to set up in a high traffic area, which will attract attention for those working without permit. 2. You set up in lower traffic areas, not bringing in the "big bucks" but you slowly build a following on Twitter and you work your pop up shop like a food truck. Announcing your sale dates and location on Twitter and hope for the thrifty buyers to follow you. Works great for food trucks, not so sure about used goods.

Craigslist / Re: Some Tips for Listing on cList
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:12:20 PM »

I use Clist pics (maybe 2 or 3) and THEN put html pic links in main text to give BIG pics. HOWEVER, I think I remembe seeing something from cList that they will soon be eliminating that possibility. eBay mentions this repeatedly as something to NOT do on eBay as it makes the pics less friendly on MOBILE devices.

Correct, Craigslist will eventually stop the third party links to external pics. However, the link that I've outlined previously should still work.. from what I understand.

Bought another locker yesterday.. another $300. Lots of toys and kids clothes, which I do okay with at the flea market.. and my wife likes going through that stuff. Should be a decent profit, not breaking the bank though. Got 22 units to view tomorrow, but my funds are shrinking as I have lots of inventory held up and bad weather the last 3 weekends is killing me!

That's the price you pay to have a luxury car.. Unfortunately. Honda keys are $80.

...and he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddlin' kids.. Worst end to a Scooby Doo ever!
