not sure if your still a member as limited posts and been a while but was just curious if you know about those "incsense burners" people make out of melted liquor bottles. ive seen them in the past but recently on a trip to mexico noticed some of these and thought they were really neat. was just curious how people melt the bottles but still keep the labels in tact.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Storage auctions meets pawn stars.

I would put them on Ebay with a Buy It Now of $299 and a caption that said "As seen on Pawn Stars. Rare TMNT Comic collection. Professionally appraised AT $400."

good thinking what beter marketing than that, beats the heck out of the crap people put on ebay with the caption, bought at a storage auciton like people care where it came from

good point alias, asthey say one mans junk is another mans treasure. often times ill find someone with a sob story who knows if its true or not but if i have stuff thats gonna get donated to goodwill anyway may as well give it directly to the person in need. also othertimes someones looking for a cheap bed, couch, etc and its often something ill throw away so not only do they save me from having to buy a garbage sticker but maybe make $10 off the deal.

eBay / Re: Average per item selling price on eBay
« on: July 10, 2012, 03:58:23 PM »
Thanks for pointing that out movieman. I never really looked and saw these stats avaialbe. Lately I been focusing on my online business in which we are powersellers/top rated sellers so our stuff is all fixed price and its the same items were selling so data won't really be a surprise but for my personal account where I sell random things this is very interesting and informative data.

To everyone here's a reason to keep up on ebay, look at forums, play around in your account. I'm always surprised by people who not on this forum but in general who post angry things about how htey lost money selling stuff on ebay and its like did you even take the time to look into fees and do a tiny bit of reasearch about the platform your selling on before selling.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Clothes- how does everyone do?
« on: June 25, 2012, 09:49:51 PM »
I've made out pretty well on clothes in a few units but overall clothes are garbage. Like others have said clothes are a dime a dozen. It can even be tough to get rid of name brand stuff like Polo for example. Certain brands sell really well, abercrombie used to sell really well, still decent. The high end brands are where its at. I found a unit with some nice lacoste spring jackets got upwards of $150 for a few of these coats. Same thing with louis vuitton, prada, gucci, and those brands.

I always stored stuff either in a small office space I rent or home and always worries about bed bugs and other bugs and all not to make much money. At garage sales I found myself literally getting paid in pennies. I pretty much bring all clothes straight to goodwill unless its good condition higher end stuff or popular brands and comes from a unit where it looks like people took care of their stuff ie plastic totes not garbage bags filled with clothes

Have been thinking of doing the ecommerce thing. I have not researched it yet but am wondering does the side have a web builder or do i need to but website then use ecommerce to launch the site?

there's a number of ways to do the ecommerce thing some though maybe not the most professional or cleanest looking are surprisingly cheap and easy. one way of starting an online store with zero web knowledge is through a blog. blogs are generally point and click paypal buttons can usually be entered through the html code paypal provides. if you can put together a word document you can basically start an online store.

if you want a more finished look and more professional setup with inventory tools and stuff godaddy has a website builder tahts basically templates and you can implement a godaddy shopping cart and take paypal or tehy'll even set u up with a merchant account however fees are almost same as paypal and then you have to buy an ssl certificate too for $64 a year.

the hard part is driving traffic to ur store. you can have the best products and prices but if nobody knows about them you aren't going to sell them. feel free to pm me or ask a question fro follow up info

Very interesting topic movieman. I know I myself have been much less active in these forums in the past few months in addition to not going to many auctions either. I think this is for a variety of reasons.

1. There's only so much you can talk about with storage auctions. Sure you can discuss recent trends and new things goinng on in the auction scene such as people changing cleaning deposit rules, crowds, etc but really there's only so many tips and tricks type posts that people can make. I think we have kinda hashed out most topics on this site so the only worthwhile discussions that are left are more recent events or changes in the auction scene type posts.

2. The height of the storage auction craze is over. Sure the tv shows are still on but you don't have the crazy crowds and allthese new people interested. I think a lot of hte peoplegoing to auctions and on sites were newbies who quickly got burnt out or realized the business wasn't for them.

3. Even among the veterans and even though crowds have gone down the storage auction scene isn't what it used to be. I used to pick units up for $300 that I would turn around and make 3k-5k on pretty easily. That just doesn't happen anymore. Even with crowds down that $300 unit is now going to go for $1500 and though there's still money to be made storage auctions and reselling is hard work and to some of us it's just not worth it for the smaller profit margins.

Currently I'm doing the whole ecommerce thing have a few online stores and also doing the ebay powerseller thing reselling goods I buy rather than getting them at storage auctions. It's much easier and less time consuming than storage auctions and the profits are better. I wake up to orders or get them while I'm at work and all I have to do at the end of the day is go home pack up a few priority mail envelopes and swing by the post office on my way to work the next day.

I've been meaning to get back into going to auctions on a regular basis but have just been to busy lately

kinda a tough sell probably sell themf or cheap at the flea market but shot glasses are cheap so unlesss htey are unique probably hard to sell. also a collector probably wouldn't want them since people tend to like to collect shot glases that have meaning to them. i would try to sell them as a "lot" on ebay all at once first if not sell piece by piece.

eBay / Re: Best Sellers on Ebay
« on: June 04, 2012, 06:19:53 PM »
pretty much any name brand clothing will sell well if priced well on ebay. i would disagree with some of the name brands you mentioned i dont find polo sells well at all many girl brands like bcbg and stuff like that is hit or miss.

in my experience pretty much any high end handbag will sell. lacoste sells like crazy as does prada, gucci, armani, etc stuff like that. im surprised how much doonie & bourke bags have come down in price they used to be nice bags now your lucky to get $10 on ebay
