Picker's Paradise / Re: What are some of your best picks ?
« on: January 25, 2013, 10:21:05 AM »
I picked up a dozen brand new laptop backpacks right before school started for $5/ea.  Retailed at $60.  Sold for $25/ea.

Set of end tables off of Craigslist free, sold for $250.

Got a box of fishing apparel for $20 at an estate sale.  High end stuff.  Can't remember total profit but sold boot insulators or $20 and coat shell for $40.  Gave a bunch in swap for deep sea fishing excursion.
Which I then swap'd for a mechanic to do about $600 of work.

I'd say these were my best picks, not because of profit but, because I flipped them in under 24 hours. (Except the back packs.  They were "claimed" but took a couple days to actually meet up with CL buyers)

Here is another.....

URL no longer active.

Who wants to open at $1000?.....just so you can put in for the title and have th peron come say Soooo THATS where i left it! Thanks!  And drive off.

Or find its stolen.

I think the facility should put in for title before they auction......

Tho......we have the VIN and Lic# and location.......nothing stopping one of us from putting in for title!  ;)

What's it Worth?? / Re: Ornate Executive Desk
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:02:20 PM »
Yeah, without seeing in person I'd go conservative.

With stuff just piled on top: 1) most likely a bit scuffed at minimum. 2) I'd assume they didn't value it to high themselves.

Looks a bit generic and doesn't seem to show any age.  Really like the legs, though.....

I think a conservative guess would be a resale would be  $75-$100, like Cobia said.
If you want to gamble on its value.... I personally, still wouldn't estimate it over a $200 sale when adding up the unit.

Well, with your totally awesome photography skills and description of item.....

I've seem similar at estate sales for $350....listed, don't know if they sold.

What kind of wood is that?   Does it have an inlay top or leather? What style are the feet?  How's it held together?  Pegs, screws.....any glue.

I don't know about your area but up in Dallas this stuff in inexpensive compared to Seattle, even more in Vancouver, BC......hard to put value on it.

Today's...

6 units.  38 people....and a baby.
Sizing up I'd say 8-10 people there to actually bid.

1st:  Kirby vac.  Old school.  Several beat up boxes.  Smelled like piss.
        First time newbie got for $145.  I passed.   I have 2 Kirby's I haven't sold yet.

2nd:  Matteress. Ton of pink children's toys, tables, easy bake....
Looked like someone cleaned out kids room.  Was two laptops in a bag...
Went to 20-ish year old for $130.   Had potential for small profit (or big if laptops were newer)
Again, I passed.   Lot of take up space stuff.

3rd:   Flat cardboard box with bubble wrapped framed art sticking out.   Grand Father clock with no
wieghts.   Went for $175.    Didnt bid.  I know nada about clocks but looked pretty cheap to me.

4th:   Dresser.  End table.  All scratched up.  Don't know bid, went to restroom....

5th:   Non-army, army style duffle.  Car amp.  Monitor.  Some electronics.
I put a cap at $100 and thought that might be high.  Went for $115.
This one was the one that struck me as the gamble.  Either a money maker or total bust.

I skipped out so didnt see the 6th unit.  Auctioneer's one and only auction today and was talking and BSing.  I ran out of time.

What I did notice thru all this....
1st:  all boxes were spread out and slightly open with something of interest showing.  Kirby was next to door but you could see dust outline in back to where it was before.

2nd: right in middle ws bag with laptop but while everything else was tossed in, this was wrapped just so as not to see what kind of laptops thy were but totally noticeable.

3rd: art was slightly pulled from box

4th: all the boxes were covered by blanket but the furniture wasn't and had no dust on it.

5th:  duffle was opened towards door.  Car amp right up front but car stereo boxes ans electronics all in box in back.  And monitor and all other electronics were in such a way that you couldn't see the name.  Every piece just so happened to have something lending against it.

This is a place the cuts locks before you arrive.  Totally looked like they arranged the lockers.
I mean, who has a 6x6 locker, about a dozen items in said locker but lays it all out so you can't even take a step inside?  It seriously looked like how people spread things on a tarp at a flea market.

666
Tax too?  Dang. I just included premium.

Can't determine gas since who knows where thy are coming from but at least, from pictures, no dump fee's.     Not that Fort Worths dump fee's are that much anyway......plus there transfer station has a "swap shop".   You can just drop off used furniture or what ever and other can take.....all free.

Wish we had that.

667
Well, I was only off by $165.....

$3085.50 is over my risk budget.   Perhaps if it was live and I could see quality of goods.....but not just going off pictures.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Gabby Gabs
« on: January 17, 2013, 04:01:00 PM »
I'm nice to people. Good morning, hello's, brief answer to a direct question or small talk to a regular when signing in........

But for the most part I stand off to the side.  I don't give any indication I want to talk.

If someone insists on talking then I get behind them when viewing he unit.   Figure if they can't shut up then maybe they'll point out items I may miss.

Then after, which ever way they walk off to.....I go the other way.

Vehicles at Storage Auctions / Re: Getting Keys for a Vehicle
« on: January 17, 2013, 03:47:14 PM »
Not at *storage* auction but.......

1).  Dealership.  Give them the VIN and they'll cut a key.   Some dealers have some protocols.....ID, title....
(Electronic keys have to be reset so car has to be there)

2) buy new ignition and tumblers.  Rekey door to ignition key.....or just have two keys.

3) auto lock smith is cheaper than dealer and will reset electronic keys.   They also come to you.

Key fobs can be reset yourself on a lot of car.   It's just matter of hitting the right buttons in the right order....search the Internet for instructions.

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Wars New York
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:21:25 AM »

That's got to be really expensive taking a cab to auctions...

I have two friends in NY.  Neither has a car.  Cab or train.  Says gas & parking is more expensive than cab rides in the end.   Then, one is paying $2200/month for a 500sq/ft studio so maybe "expensive" has a different meaning there.......

............

I watched two episodes On Demand.   If you fast forward thru opening, talking, interview, commercials.......you can blow thru an episode in 8 minutes.

Another day of all auctions cancelled.....3of5 for Wednesday have been cancelled.

Starting off to be a slow year.  Not even any estate sales this week that look good.

Got two resturant auctions lined up but going just since I have time.   Not really expecting much.

Did make a few picks today.    That's something, I guess.

That some BS!   A check is the same as cash.....at least that's my Ex's philosophy.   ???

The Lounge / Re: Is it stealing if.....

I just try to do things legit, might push the boundaries a bit, but over all have the 'be a good person and good things will come to you' philosophy.    So I do this kind of thing and I think I'm going to wake to my car stolen or something.......

I heard he was going thru tough times.   Something about having to stop smoking weed and check himself into rehab (for his "weight problem" according to reps).  And something about Oxy's for pain.....

Sucks.   So many entertainers its their lifestyle that helps them boost to the top, same lifestyle takes it all away......

What!?   Are you kidding me?!

Engine is an easy $2000.
Furniture another easy $2000
Speaker is 3 bills and that ladder is another bill.....

......oh look at that!   My cat just turned into a unicorn! MAN!, This is some good sh*t!   Got it from the producers of Storage Wars if you guys want some!    ;D
