Ya - let us know how the clothing went.

I just spent an hour sorting cloths that I got in my last auction from Dec.  Did find a number of "jersey" type kids clothing from Rebook and companies like that.  Also 3 golf flags - no logo on them however.  If had been Masters stuff I'd been in some money.  Going to do some research on ebay and see if can sell them there.

Glad the fride worked for ya.  The two I've gotten in units so far have been non-working or non-cooling.

I've lost my tail at a silent auction and done very well at one.  It's a toss up.  I much prefer called auctions.  The X money vs bid thing is one reason why I hate silent auctions.  If I win more then 2-3 with most of my bids I got to get more cash.  With silent auctions here however, they give you time to do that.  My 3 caravan saturday auction is moving to called from silent.  I suspect they are doing that since the crowds have gotten larger each month and they want to drive the bids up.

Shmoopy - those units went higher then what I would pay that is for sure.  However, of late those are about normal.  You currently have more newbies with money then sense.  Next month or even next auction they will be gone and a new crop will come in.

Found an auction for Monday at 1pm.  Not sure if will try and make it or not.  All depends on work that day.  Already taken off for the 12th so will hit my 7 facility caravan.

Flea Markets / Re: First weekend of the year
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:56:48 PM »
Well it was a very nice day today.  Only a slight breeze and nice warm weather.  Don't know how the flea would of turned out.  Will talk to a few of the vendors Sunday when go out there w/ father to buy a canopy.  Luck turned around some at least.  Truck turned out to be a bad oil sensor.  So $45 for the sensor which was a PITA to replace.  Also got my trailer jack installed on my trailer so that will help me when want to load the trailer night before or have a load from a unit on it and don't want to unload.

Also made a sale on 1 book I posted on half.com last night.  Only about a $6 profit after fees but since books don't sell at the flea is money I would not of gotten.

Hope ya'll had a good day at your yard sale.

Really hope you do well with the clothing.  I have every only sold 1 jacket, 1 shirt, and the rest shoes in regards to clothing.  Just can't seem to move the stuff.  Gave Goodwill a trailer load of clothing just before the end of year for the tax write-off.  Still have 4 huge boxes (like 3.5' x 3' x 3') with clothing to sort.  Mostly adult clothing.  In last unit my 16th with the fridge I found a bunch of sports related kids jerseys and hats.  Need to sort and take pictures of them still to post.

Fridge worked but doesn't get cold, prob no freon.  Going to try and sell it "as-is" for $25-$50 on CL.  I know many appliance repair people look for such deals.

Good luck Saturday.

Any yard/garage sales not on a Saturday, or some areas Friday means they really want to get rid of stuff.  Great finds there.

Well Mr. Murphy decided to take a small dump on me after work.  On way home from work and thinking about what to take Saturday my check engine light came on and my oil pressure display was showing 0.  Called brother-in-law to come and get me with his truck and trailer.  So instead of making money I'll be spending money to fix my truck.  Talked about being pissed.

Flea Markets / First weekend of the year
« on: January 06, 2012, 12:08:39 PM »
Well I just reserved a booth at the flea market for Saturday.  Kept waffeling back and forth if should go.  Weather has been in the 30s - 40s but is suppose to be in upper 60s, almost 70 with 5-10 mph winds and 20% chance of rain.  My luck it will rain all dang day.

Anyone sold at the flea at start of a new year right after xmas?  Will report back Saturday night on how well did or didn't do.

Place wasn't sold out so this may be a lost cause.

Well I was all excited to start the new year off for nothing.  Got to the location and didn't see any other cars/trucks.  I was like ah heck - they canceled.  Sure enough - auction guy couldn't make it down so they canceled.  More units for Feb 3rd but now have to wait till the 10th or 12th to hit a auction.  Since will be in the 60s this week I may just go sell at the flea and try and make some money.

First auction for me this month is U-haul in little over an hour.  Not going to the 10am auction as only 3 units in paper and very well may be paid up by now.  The 11am one is not even a mile from work so can sneak away at lunch very easy like.  If crowds and prices are like last month I'll come back to work empty handed.

12th is one of my caravan auctions that I pick up a unit or two normally.  16th is the crazy day for me with 3 different auctions that day.  If the new crowds stay away and it's the normal regulars the prices will be low.  Too many units if current count stays even 50% for everyone to swallow at once, even with the cross the river people showing up like I suspect they will.  So hope by time the 4pm caravan starts most everyone will have bought a unit or 4 and not want or handle anything else.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: First auctions on Tuesday

Yep - I'm one of those guys...or tries to be.  Keep a pretty large first aid kit in my truck, big jack, jumper cables, etc.  Thinking of getting a trama kit from Gales.  I seem to run up on accidents that have just occured many times.  That and I work with 100+ women.  So they are always looking to me to change a tire or jumpstart a car.  Thus I try to stay prepared.

the rubber tips sound like they come real handy often

Ya, I was in Columbia, SC w/ father at Northerntool to get some stuff since it's not in our area.  Was just looking around and came upon them.  Was like, dang - I could of used those last week.  Had bought a unit w/ lots of hydrolic oil bottles that were open and no cap for the tip.  Will be useful for caulking tubes and items like that.  I always buy new tubes but people will buy partial tubes all day long at the flea for home repair on the cheap.  Think I paid $4.50 for a can of 25, so .18 cents each.  Makes the tubes look more "taken care of" and may even up sales.  Who knows, worth the investment just to not make a mess all over my truck or trailer.

That sounds about like myself and Atlanta.  While we have a local that buys 90% of his units in Atlanta I've yet to hit any.  One of my auction buddies went over Thanksgiven and said the prices were actually lower there then our area.  Don't know if that was due to most people being out of town and not at auction or what.

I have started to look for auctions in towns and cities I may be heading to for work or the kids.  Prob not buy a unit in those situations but would be good recon on crowds / prices.

Nice MovieMan - you can make money with the baby steps many times until you can take a long step or jump.  It's like the flea.  I make 50%-70% of my money on $5 or less items, mostly .25 - $1.  The other % comes from larger expensive items.

If money wasn't so tight now I'd try my hand at it.  Will have to do well at the auctions and flea and save the dough.

That is what I use my electric glowing buddah and world coins for.  I draw people in to my spot at the flea.  Once in my booth or what not many times they "spot" something else and buy it.  I figure those 2 items bring in a good 30% of my customers.

I recently found a metal frame and glass shelves in a unit.  I used this to display all my little collectibles and figurines instead of putting them in a cluster on the wood table.  Sold a few items that hadn't moved before, including 2 of 3 buddahs that made up a set.  Was missing 1 but the set still sold.
