They were concerned about getting the locks off a d doors open per the manager.

I think that's code for, they didn't want to be out in the cold..

In general, I believe that the facilities do everything they can to prevent cancelling the auction because they'd have to reschedule a full month out. The way I see it is, if the employees go to work, the auction is on.

In NC, the law has been changed and storage facilities no longer have to post an ad in the legals. Now the law sees advertising on auctionzip.com, craigslist.org and other sites, including the facility's website, as equal forms of advertisement. A facility also no longer has to call the delinquent customer on the phone if the customer agrees that the facility can contact them by email.

I would expect that trend to grow throughout the country.

The way I can best explain attendance in correlation to the medium of advertising is this.. If you do a Google search for storage auctions in your areas, the first sites are going to have the biggest turnout. Auctionzip.com controls the space in this area, thus they have the largest turnout.

I've been reading and It seems you can......but it has to be in inventory for an amount of time.
I don't think you can just clean out unit, put good stuff in store, take stuff your store doesn't sell to donation site and right of FMV.

I haven't got all the way thru the codes.  I'm confused because one says one thing and another seems to contradict it........

Contradiction is what the IRS does best.. I believe that there is no rule stating how long a business has to keep inventory before it can be donated. For items like clothes, I just send it straight to another thrift store if it comes in and I can't, or won't sell it. I get enough clothing in each locker to cycle through, or "cover" the deduction. Another advantage to starting a "business" is that you get 100% FMV as a sole proprietor rather than 15%..

I have seen those too, and I stay away from those type units in general.

However, I bought a manager's special for $30 last year. Had 12 bags of concrete, sold the lot for $40. A recliner which I sold for $30, an armoire I flipped for $50, an elliptical machine which I sold to Play It Again Sports for $75 and other misc. items which I probably made an extra $80-$100.

In all, it probably took me a week to sell through everything. Not bad for $30.

...Or you can get yourself a Tax ID and FEIN number, both free.. Donate all you want and claim everything as FMV and list  as "business inventory". Your business can be selling on eBay, yard saling, flea marketing, or an actual storefront. No?

I'm surprised that I amassed that many posts in almost a year myself. Typically I'm the kind of guy that fades in and out, but this business has me addicted!

Just about everyone around here goes in some kind of order.. Whether it's planned around the more attractive units or not, I'm not sure.

In NC, now a facility no longer has to buy a legal ad to advertise their auctions. But they do have to list in a public forum. Many of the chains have a website to list all their auctions. The smaller companies list on craigslist, some still don't know that you don't need to buy a legal ad.. Others advertise on auctionzip, storage treasures et.al.

I don't mind these lockers as long as they're a reputable facility. Even still, just bid on what I can see.

But if I buy a locker as inventory for my store and donate the items that sit for a while, would I not be able to write off FMV? Seems to me, that would be the most logical..

That's why I chose the cash $5. Match 5 numbers, win $50k.. At least.. Also has prizes for matching 2-3-4 numbers.. Last night. Matched 1 number.. Now, do I play the same ticket, or continue to do quick picks?

Alan Greenspan has been quoted as saying that playing $1 in the lottery is a good investment. Of course, I think it was a tongue in cheek comment regarding the stock market at the time... But I'm going to do it! I'm going to buy a $1 quick pick cash 5 lottery ticket every day it's available to play. I'll lye you guys know if (when) I win!

I agree. Legalization has several advantages. Revenue through taxation and we won't have to spend money prosecuting and imprisoning people for a substance, that in my opinion, is safer than alcohol.

And the pot heads can FINALLY shut up about it!

Packages are slow, but I haven't had anyone complain. But I did send a message to each sale, and I may add it to my standard listing that if the tracking number does not showed delivered, than we have to assume it's still en route.
