You might if you are a "picker", and if you don't know....look it up.

I looked up Jason's completed listings (1647) and then his sold listings (693).
That works out to 43% of the listed items getting sold. Sounds pretty good.
He currently has about 850 items listed (2/12/2014)

One of the two buyers on this show is Jason. He's the one with the beard.

After buying some stuff they went home, researched it (I do that BEFORE I buy it) and put stuff on eBay.
(they DID look up some stuff on a phone at one store before they decided not to buy it).

Jason got a Rad..The Movie jacket in a batch he bought for $10. Put it on eBay for $1K or offer and after a few offers from one guy sold it to him for $700.

****

The cameras took close up pics of the bids on the computer screen and by stopping the streaming video a few times I came up with buyer's name, the seller's name and found the feedbacks, the item and Jason's current offerings....here they are.

Well, given the broad thrifting aspect of flea markets, garage sales, yard sales, barns, etc this show probably won't destroy the picking business the way the storage wars shows did.

eBay / eBay Instructions for Using Watermarks in Pictures
« on: February 12, 2014, 05:35:44 PM »
Well, they have guidelines and even instructions on how to do it (see below) BUT....none of the instructions apply to their current 3 ways of uploading pictures...at least when I look at it.

I went into a listing I have scheduled for posting later today and deleted one of the 12 pics so I could try out their watermarking approach. When I tried to upload a new 12th pic there was no option for assigning a watermark to the new pic.

Thanks, eBay for offering all the picture opportunities but not including the watermarking option OR changing you "help" feature that talks about watermarking.

Guess I will continue to use a "paint" type program to lay BIG RED LETTERS on top of some of my pics.

Note: I use an eBay template I have been using for years. I'll look inside it and see if there are changing options.

Adding a watermark to your photos
You can use our watermark creation service to add a camera icon, your eBay user ID, or both, as a watermark on your photo. Note: Watermarks are the only text that can be on your photo.
To add a watermark to your photos:
1.   Go to the Add photos section of the listing form.
2.   Click the Add or remove options link, and then select one or both watermark options:
o   Enable watermarking with my eBay user ID
o   Enable watermarking with the eBay camera icon
3.   Click the Save button.
4.   Continue filling out the form.
When you upload your photo, we'll apply the watermark you selected. If your user ID is more than 24 characters, the ID watermark is automatically shortened to 24 characters to ensure it will fit the photo.
Note: The watermark you selected applies only to photos you've just uploaded. Changing your selection won't add or remove watermarks from previously uploaded photos. Watermarks aren't available for photos uploaded using our quick listing tool.
If you'd like to create your own watermark on your photos, follow these guidelines:
•   We only allow watermarks for ownership and attribution
•   Watermarks shouldn't distract from the image
•   Watermarks can't serve a marketing purpose, such as specific details about your item or customer service
•   Watermarks should be no bigger than 5% of the total image area
•   Watermarks should have an opacity of no more than 50%
•   Links aren't allowed in watermarks

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #2....February, 2014
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:24:51 PM »
Went to one auction today, 2/12/2014, after missing another half dozen this day and some a few days earlier.

Talked to one of the regulars and he said everything this week had been trash and he usually buy 4 or 5 lockers a month.

Today there were 9 lockers. First 3 were OK but went a little high for the contents.

Next 6 were the ultimate trash lockers. Five of the 6 sold for $1 and that was with the auctioneer paying the dollar. I walked off before the last one sold, but it was about 6 pieces of particle board shelving so not much.

I am more and more convinced that, at least in my area, people are paying up on their lockers to save their stuff. The last 6 that sold today were trash....I guess the former owners don't care about their credit ratings...maybe they don't even HAVE credit ratings !

eBay / Re: eBay Wants to Use Pictures We Take in THEIR catalog
« on: February 12, 2014, 01:40:41 PM »
I have gotten in the habit of signing every one of the pictures I put  online. I simply go into my draw program and put my name in the bottom corner. I always take a lot of time and consideration into taking my photos. It really pisses me off when someone else uses them without my permission.

Some people would just lay a black stripe over the edge where a signature is sitting. Putting a diagonal signature corner to corner helps with that but obstructs the view a bit. I used red letters in different pictures, in different positions in a given item listing. Sometimes I used my full seller name, other times just some initials that related to me and hopefully not to them.

If it bothers you to have your pictures used, then watermark them with your username. That way they'll either be rejected or you'll get free advertising at other people's stores.

Several years ago I got a few hundred wooden aquarium covers(in boxes) (with liftable lid section) at $1 each...no way I could lose at that price and I sold them at the flea market and on eBay. Christmas prices were outrageously profitable.

A guy used my pics (AND my text) to try to sell his. I reported him immediately. His item was taken down and he was admonished by eBay. Too friggin' lazy to take his own pics or write his own text.

*****

Edit:

Last year I was selling a piece of electronics on eBay. I had gotten 100 of them for $50, in boxes ready to mail. I put them on eBay and a fellow from 50 miles away who had gotten some too was using my pictures.  I turned him in too. They took him down. I immediately put nice big RED letters across the pics and didn't have any problem with anybody after that.

Apparently these things became available nationwide in bulk because half a dozen people were selling them nationwide on eBay. I got them so cheap I was able to undercut them. I sold mine for $20 each while most of them were asking $35 and up.

I don't know about any of you but I go to quite a bit of trouble to take good pics of my sale items. eBay wants to have the right to use OUR photos in THEIR catalog so other people could choose to use them to sell THEIR items.

Sure, they would give US the chance to use other people's pictures, but they would have to be super good to entice me to use them and most aren't.

Now if eBay wanted to Pay for that right it might be a different story and you could bet it would be .10 a pic or less.

Anyway, here's the email I received and maybe you did to. It gives instructions on how to opt out since they have automatically opted us in.

*****

Like most sellers, you may have enjoyed the convenience of automatically adding a photo to your listing from eBay’s vast catalog. The robust catalog of great photos benefits the marketplace and helps attract buyers and close sales.

As you may know, according to the eBay User Agreement, any photos uploaded to listings through eBay picture services may be added to and made available through the eBay product catalog—unless you change your photo preferences in My eBay to opt out of sharing.

During a recent technical update, the photo-sharing preference in My eBay may have been inadvertently reset for some sellers. We have temporarily stopped collecting photos until we could notify you and give you the opportunity to check your preference.

If you are fine with sharing, there’s nothing you need to do. If for any reason you prefer not to share, please opt out now through your "Site preferences" in the account tab in My eBay. Look for "Share your content" under "Selling Preferences". On March 12, eBay will again begin to collect photos.

We apologize for any inconvenience. As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Sincerely,

eBay Seller Team

The problem that I'm running into is that they weigh 150 pounds each and there is 4 of them.

Local pickup, freight, Greyhound.

I've used local pickup for 200 pounds of "stage piano", A Honda quad, vintage Console radio/tv sets, a $400, 12 foot Stihl chain saw pruner, etc.

People will drive a fair distance to get something like this especially if the price is right. As you got them in a locker (I think) you should be able to part with them cheaper and let the other items bring in some better cash.

vanillagorilla,

You're only going to get one of them, I took the other from you. I was going to let you have it, but my dad wanted it for some odd reason.. I don't think it's worth the price it was bid up to.

What was it bid up to (as best you know) before the crash?  And what size locker is it?

And Luke, how far are the auctions from your home as well?

We'll see what happens, can't wait to take the $10 locker to home depot..

My guess is they will have an "out" to extend the auction due to technical problems.

A "soft close" provision would take care of that....no bids in the last 1 minute or so of the auction, they extend the close time.

eBay was thinking of implementing that but there was such an uproar it never happened.

If you and vanilla get your lockers I will be very surprised.  Such contingencies are usually thought out in advance I would guess, but time will give us the answer.
