Stores / Re: Taken the dive into uncharted waters....

Awesome! I've been looking for a space like that for a while now! Our indoor spaces at the flea market have a waiting list. They're estimating I'll get my shot in a couple of YEARS!  :o I'm hoping to open my own store by then..

In any event, I wish you the best of luck! Take full advantage and keep your shelves full!

I think they're certainly running out of steam.. It's what happens when you create the story line.. I give it 2 more years max for new episodes and an eternity in reruns.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Vintage Music Equipment

Vintage guitars are always in high demand. Electric guitars seem to have more interest than acoustic. Vintage recording equipment is really bustling, around here anyway. Old reel to reel recorders, mixing boards, etc. Vintage amps are good depending on the brand. Drums can be good depending on the condition and brand. Old Zildjian cymbals are getting a crap-ton of money, but that's typical of that brand.

I saw a Coach purse at our local thrift store a couple of weeks ago. They were asking $20.

I used to do stand up.. Just open mics, got paid for it once.. Still have friends that do it. It's a tough thing, not getting laughs. It's instant feedback from your "employers". If you really want to see people bomb, go to open mic nights.. Scary stuff..

I think that we are going to continue to see this carousel of characters for this season.. Sort of an audition process.. Nobody is set in stone. I don't miss Dave, because I think he's pretty much full of crap with his pricing. But, so far, he is/was more of a personality than these 3 schlubs they had on last night..

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Using Facebook to sell. Works great!

Try and put in "Yard Sale (your city)" That comes up with about 4 different groups for me for Raleigh.

Doesn't Amazon charge in the same fashion? It's a smart move by ebay, but I don't think it'll be enough to coax those folks back from Amazon. Afterall, they (Amazon) was just given a gold medal by the National Retail Federation for being the most reliable, and recognizable "store" in the country.. This is where the people are going to buy their stuff now.. That being said, maybe I'll throw some stuff up on ebay.. After May 1.

Since the first of the year I am starting to hear more rumors about people bidding on lockers and not having the money to pay for them, refusing to pay for them & just leaving, & asking to go get more money.

I think I am going to start going in the office after each auction and make sure the units get paid up or else I am going to claim back-up bidder status.

Funny that you mention that. We had a unit go today for $5,500.. Had lots of real nice high end furniture, professionally packed. It was owned by a moving company for one of their customers who refused to pay for the move.

There were 2 main bidders, one of which said after the sale that she didn't even have that much money on her. I asked why she kept going.. She said "To make him pay.."   :o  I asked, what if he stopped at $5,400? She said, "Oh well, if I don't got it, I don't got it. What can they do?" Yeah, real educated answer.. I was in total shock..

StorMe thinks I'm a stalker because I piece together information about people here and look at their sales sites like eBay, Craigslist, etc.  He doesn't realize I'm not yet at the "Apex" of my investigative ability.

Just do a search for "stalker" and the relevant threads will pop up.

I think you're confusing StorMe with myself, unless StorMe sent you a separate message. I did say that you stalked my craigslist ads and since then you've mentioned my street name and town.. :)

I love it when people ask about color when there's a pic in the ad... No, the color of the dresser didn't magically change from the time I posted the ad an hour ago till now..

His picture is available online, but to find it you would have to be a "stalker" !  ;D

What's with the "stalker" in quotes? I've seen that a few times around the forum.

I would come out and clear the air with him/her. Just be honest and say you didn’t know and you were wondering if the person was a female or male.

Nothing wrong with that.

Phil

You could ask if they're married, have kids, etc. If they're married, ask about their spouse. What's their name? What do they do for a living? etc.. Don't just ask for their spouses name though.. That would be a bit creepy.

I certainly did get a kick out of it! I like that the guy puts Dave Hester, Hitler, OJ and Steve-O in the same category.. It's a bit of a stretch, considering that 3 of the 4 people didn't kill millions of people.. In fact, if you take all the murders done by Dave Hester, Steve-O and OJ, it equals 2.. and careers don't count.

Saw 22 units today. Total bust. Either too much volume or just plain old crap stuff. Ridiculous bidding too. One unit had 3 rubbermaids in it. It went for $150..
