Dave probably bought this guy's delinquent unit.

The real funny part, to me, is the fact that these guys were surprised that prices went up and larger crowds started showing up at auctions after the shows became a hit. Then they have the audacity to cry when their profits aren't as large as before the show. I believe that's at the root of Dave's case. He was a big player, went on the show, then he had to start overpaying for units because the show fixed them. Now he's broke. Too bad, so sad..

Turns out I'm really bad with a spray can! I don't think I have the patience for it.. I sprayed the clear enamel too soon after the paint.

After your done painting them, lay them down on their fronts and drag them down the driveway. Then you can call them shabby chic and charge more.  ;)

I'm gonna give them to my sons and let them use the tables as dirt sleds!

About the most repurposing I do is put shelves into old entertainment centers or TV armoires. I bought a couple cans of spray paint and clear coat to test my repainting skills on some cheap side tables I found in a unit. Maybe I'll do that this afternoon and post some sorry looking pictures!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #3...March, 2013

Went to 3 auctions in Raleigh today. Saw 11 units. Bid on 1. That unit had a radio flyer ride on toy, looked vintagey, a girls bike with a banana seat, didn't look terribly old though. Also had furniture like a china cabinet, a huge armoire and another dresser but couldn't see the drawers.

I bid up to $150. The auction was about 20 miles from home, would have had to rent a truck and hire some help. Ended up selling for $180.

Only other excitement for the day was the very last unit of the day. Auctioneer looked inside a small side table with door (door was open) and found chicken carcasses without the head and a bunch of other voodoo type stuff. I never saw someone jump and move so fast!

Have you spoken to them on the phone or anything? A pitch in the voice may help you.

I've got a Sleep Number and my box spring is 1 piece. It could be for a different brand like Comfortaire.. In any event, I think it's a box spring for an air chamber bed. Not a bad find, but certainly much better with the mattress.

I know that Sleep Number uses composite plastic box springs similar to that. The cover to the box spring is also similar. The bottom rides up all the time and exposes the black plastic underneath. It could be a knock off to Sleep Number, or as you suspect, just a cheap way to make a box spring.

Just what the auction crowds needs, another pair of JAFOs. :P

Not familiar with the term JAFO.. what's that?

Yeah, DVDs used to be collected, but not so much any more. You're right with Netflix and streaming capabilities, it frees up a lot of shelf space in people's homes.. People around here still factor in DVDs as part of the profit of the locker. I just see them as a hassle to carry around and store.

Auction zip will be your best online resource. If you want to go the old school route, you could always check out the legals or classifieds of the local paper.

One chain of storage facilities charges a $5 entry fee to their auctions. I went once.. I decided not to go back because 2 or 3 units were denied sales by the management for not bringing enough money. I can understand denying a sale. But not charging an entry fee AND denying sales! One unit had 2 old school soda vending machines. They didn't even have the dollar feeder. It went for $100. Management denied the sale. If I were management I'd be jumping for joy!

I've got an appointment for Saturday morning with an auctioneer in Raleigh to appraise my art. I'm thinking of listing the art in his next auction, whenever that will be!
