Craig, let me dig up my invoice and I'll give you the web address of who I bought mine from, at work just tried finding them on google and had no luck.

Here's one for just $19.95, not a bad price, it is a chinese model which many people complain about, I have a chinese model I bought a while back and though not 100% accurate after adjusting the vf tuning it was over 99.5% accurate.

There's a guy on ebay who sells something called the coinalyzer its pretty reasonable at like $34 and it comes prewired for you, wired better than my cell phone way of doing it but they both work the same his is probably just prettier I guess more finished look. Then you build your own frame.

if your serious about copper you gotta get a rydale, if you've never heard of them check it out on ebay they are awesome

The auctioneer who's auctions I attend the most is now on twitter. I think this is a fantastic idea.

Alot of times I don't like to attend the auction route for the whole day just jump in middway for the two auctions near my home or work. The thign that's a pain is no matter if you call the facility or text the auctioneer you always wind up waiting for an hour for the whole caravan to get there and auction to start.

With twitter now he tweets, everyone is paid up at such and such faciliity were heading to Harlem or something like that. Makes it easy to jump in for a couple midday auctions and skip the morning and afternoon. I love it.

Anyone else's auctioneers using twitter for this?

i have since built a few for some friends. i found my origional comparator in an old vending machine i found in a unit but ive since bought comparators from a vending supply company. If I buy a couple I get them for $15.95 and then its just scrap wood for the frame and an old cell phone charger to power it.

when you say world coins are you talking about searching old mexico centavos or pecos and canadian coins and stuff for silver content? i think swiss had high silver for a while too.

im no expert on vending stuff but i think some machines work with a magnet but i think most send an electric pulse throgh teh coin and compares it to the sample. the machine i guess recognizes if a coin is the same or not. if you have a silver us coin at 90% i imagine it will only pull out other 90% silver coins. if you had one of the canadian coins with 93% silver i imagine it would get rejected wtih all the other copper and zinc b/c though it is silver its not the same as the sample coin. same thing if your sorting silvers youll get the 90% but miss out on all the 40%.

It would help make sorting fast even with that flaw though. also b/c its pretty quick to sort using a mchine, especially if you have an auto hopper which i need badly, but anyhow b/c its quick you could change the sample cion and double or triple sort and it will still be much faster than hand sorting.

Hoarding, Yes!  Buying ingots/bars, No!

Copper IMO isnt worth the time.  I am more into buying/collecting/saving/finding/etc. Silver coins and bars.

I just found a 1944 silver quarter in some pocket change the other day but i've given up on buying boxes looking for silver. I've heard ther's less than 1% left. I went through about 3k-4k and found one silver dollar recently and that was the end for me. On the flip side however I did have a buddy who bought 1k worth and found 18 halves in there. its all about getting lucky and striking a good vain so to speak. Lately i have been doing pretty poorly and gave up though.

I built this machine to sort copper pennies...

still gotta set up an auto hopper but havnt gotten around to it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: whats your general winning bid?

I generally tend to buy units that are in the $400 price range. I like it b/c I'm not into the unit for too much, I can afford to buy a couple units if I see good ones and I'm not dealing with total crap either.

I also tend to pretty much automatically buy anything less than $40 unless its empty with a pillow or something like that, look at it like a lotery ticket basically.

I rarely go over $1000 unless its a real specialty large ticket item I know I can turn around. Construction equipt is one of these things as I have lots of family in construction and can get them a deal and make a buck myself.

I just raise my hand or throw up a finger. It just strikes me as lame or trying to be too cool or something when you get some idiot doing the Dave yeeeep or other off the wall stuff.

Also, it seems like towards the end of the auction for a unit its normally down to 2 or maybe 3 people and then the auctioneer knows who he's dealing with out of the crowd and he's basically just looking back and forth between you and another guy and then a simple headnod will do

I was gone from the forums for a while but came back and was pleasantly surprisd to see a lot of new members and more continuous and active discussions

Maybe my observation is untrue but it seems that this forum is gaining numbers in terms of contributing members as well as popularity where as storage auctions as a whole seem to be losing popularity or losing that origional rush it had.

I am seeing smaller crowds at auctions, the tv show ratings are really dropping off etc.

Maybe its just the show is going downhill in terms of benig entertainnig but anyone else notice this and have any thoughts on why?

788
yeah it loses its appeal after a while. i liked it when it first came out now i could kinda care less.

the toher thing like with all "reality" shows eventually the characters become c list celebrities and the show just isn't the same anymore.

look at jersey shore ya i know its dumb but first season maybe two they were a bunch of dumb kids from jersey and the show was somewhat authentic of dumb kids from jersey partying and getting a taste of fame. now they are all making 5 mill a year off endorsements and bar appearances and they all have big heads nad the show is not the same thing it began as.

not sure what makes a show stay and what makes a show a fad. pawn stars is here to stay as is american pickers, storage wars just doesn't have whatever those other two do.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Best way to sell cloths?
« on: August 15, 2011, 02:28:46 PM »
I was surprised lately to notice many flea markets in my area are now stating "no rummage clothes"

Not sure what constitutes rummage clothes but I would imagine basically anything thats not new with tags or at the very least anything that is not in like new condition so now totes of womens shoes, totes of random tshirts for 0.25 etc.

Not sure how closely this will be enforced as they also say no counterfit merchandise, knockoffs, etc and we know how well they enforce that but I was surrprised that they made the effort to specifically rewrite policies nad list no rummage clothes at a number of flea markets in my area.

anyone else noticing this?

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Research
« on: August 15, 2011, 11:13:08 AM »
Personally I don't think it's worth the the trouble. Even if someone lives in a nice area who's to say their unit isn't just full of 10 year old patio furniture.

Also most of the auctions I go to tend to be in chicago or surrounding suburbs and you can really say oh that's a rich town thats a poor town because chicago as well as these burbs has places someone could buy for a million as well as places one could buy for 80k

I just go to the auctions and let the unit be my research. If I see magazines like Forbes, Watches, Money, etc I'm buying the unit

eBay / Re: This is what's so great about ebay!!!
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:08:38 AM »
Your example was written in pounds so I assume they were using Brtitish law which doesn't really apply to us here.

I think I recall hearing some examples where people bought a car for $1 and the seller refused to sell after the auction ended. I don't believe a judge was able to force that person to sell their car just because they had a "contract" through ebay. I believe I've also heard several where buyers renegged and same thing happenned seller couldn't force them to go through with teh sale even after going to court.

About three years ago ebay changed their language from this is a legally binding contract to soemthing along the lines of this is an introduction between two parties that can lead to future negotiation or something along those lines.

I'm no lawyer so I'm not saying I'm 100% right but reguardless even if ebay is a legally binding conttract only in the rarest of situations is it even worthwhile to pursue soemone in court. Personally I won't sell anything over say $350 on ebay because of fees as well as their policies which allow a seller to lose money and their item. Anyhow, because of this it wouldn't be worth me to spend $50 filing fee for small claims court, waste a day off of work and try to sue someone most likely from another state. Ya I'll take it as a loss before I go through all that.

eBay / Re: This is what's so great about ebay!!!

Everyone loves to tout how ebay is a legally binding contract and that is false even though ebay says so somewhere in their terms and conditions.

If a seller decides they don't like what an auction ended at they can refuse to sell the item and ebay can't do anything about it. Buyers can also after bidding and winning decide they aren't going to pay and ebay can't do anything about it.

I wish I woudl have saved the page but I came across some page on ebay the other day that basically said ebay provides a way for buyers and sellers to connect and then said that even after an auction ends all that is is a jumping board for future negotiations or something along those lines, I was really surprised to see it basically spelled out that an auction even in their terms and conditions isn't something that needs to be followed through on.

The statement that "An Auction is a binding contract between buyer and seller to purchase and sell an item..." is not true. Although eBay makes a point of saying that a bid is a binding contract, that too is untrue. Contract Law states that there must be two items present to create a contract. The first is an offer (in our case, a bid). The second is acceptance of that offer (in our case, this is generally the end of the auction). An offer is just an offer is just an offer. A contract is not made when an offer is extended - only when accepted by the seller. The final part of a contract includes the exchange of consideration (payment and delivery of the item) between the two parties.

So you see, an offer to buy is NOT a legally binding contract until accepted by the seller. Even then, it is not enforceable if a material condition of the sale is not disclosed in advance. If (this is the big if) the seller failed to disclose such ridiculous shipping charges in the auction description, the "contract" cannot be enforced.

Craigslist / Re: What I put on Craigslist.
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:15:04 PM »
Something I started doing that I kinda like is selling stuff on cl on days I'm going to be around the house all day anyway. Say I'm doing yardwork all day Saturday I'll put up a bunch of posts Friday night. Even if its smaller things like coolers I'm around the house all day working so if someone tells me they comming at 2 and dont come until 4 doesn't matter I'm home anyway. Not really worried about security as I live in a **** neighborhood anyway more concnerned about my neighbors than people on cl, also got dogs and guns lol. Anyhow, As long as its over $15 I'll sell it on craigslist also larger stuff thats hard to ship.

eBay / Re: This is what's so great about ebay!!!

This idiot gives sellers a bad name in my opinion when in reality its the buyers who are overwhelmingly the problem, I do a decent bit of buying on ebay and never have problems with sellers.

This idiot seller only gives you two days to pay. I agree I generally pay within hours and I appreciate it when others pay promptly as I'm ready to ship asap and want things gone asap. That said two days isn't realistic considering most buyers I deal with.

Then the seller wants to get the FBI involved, really over an ebay transaction b/c you and the other guy wanna play internet tough guys.

The buyer was also an idiot as well. Seems like its impossible to have a smooth ebay transaciton with non idiots these days.
