Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?

That's why I don't like the styles of the newer SUVs. They are wider & taller towards the front and shrink like a Willie Wonka room towards the rear door/hatch.

Ain't that the truth.
Sister needed more car for growing family and told her I was happy with the Chevy equinox.  3rd row when up still give you cargo room. Lots of leg room for all.....

She went with the ford expedition.   Way more room....where you don't need it.  Front and middle seats have SO much leg room and can barely touch roof.....
But 3rd row down has les cargo than mid size Chevy crossover and when 3rd row is up....about 8inches from seat to hatch.   Rig has great passenger room, just no cargo space.

Still a nice ride tho.....

@movieman-
Maybe you should switch facilities.   Seems like your always b*tching about waiting for people that get lost finding you.....      lol.    ;D

My brother-in-law barters all the time.  But I've never found much.
Seems where he is at (the south) people ask for specific items they want Then list what they have.

All I see here (PacNW) is people list what thy have and ask what you got.....

I very well may have what your looking for but not thinking of it.
I have a bunch of bamboo fishing poles.  But what am gonna do? Ask every person on Craigslist if they want it for their <blank>?

Give me an idea of what your looking for!  Clothes? Car parts? Nude house cleaning? What?!

Tho thanks for he reminder.  May just try to barter off some of my crapola....

I had a 4dr Saturn and I could fit anything in it. Trunk opened with back cut out, seats folded, back door opening was huge.  Went to a Cougar and hatch back so....
Then traded it for a 2dr Civic and even more room than cougar.
Now I got this Acura tht is suppose to be big, roomy, luxury car and can't fit a damn thing in it!
Can't fit a chair thru rear doors!  >:(

I'm always shocked at what you can or can not fit in some cars.....

......and yes, I've owned a lot of cars in my life.   ::)

Garage Sales / Re: Are Yard Sale Customers Really That Crazy?
« on: July 09, 2012, 12:11:28 PM »
Just yesterday was at an estate sale and guy walks up with a lamp and offers $10,

Lady says that this sale isn't doing 50% off on Sundays at owners request and besides, it's marked $25, that's more than 50% off.

He says all the other companies are  willing to negotiate.  So she informs him that they are willing. But only if he can show its marked way to high or if he's buying a lot. And negotiation will not go anywhere close to half off marked price.  Says: sir, you have ONE item. I've never seen you at any of our sales. And that lamp is $100 new and looks brand new.

At which point his wife (?) walks up with a ton of towels and bedding.  So estate lady says: buy the lamp at $25 and I'll throw in the rest free.  (pretty sure they were free anyway, only thing in house not marked.)
Guy comes back at $15 and free towels.

Long story short....he walked away with nothing.

People are crazy.

I just get pissed cause most everything I sell is well below retail.  Most could be resold for more, not much more, but I always price to move.  I'll negotiate further but as soon as someone's becomes an a** I just shut it down.

I decided to pull Ad after that.
I set it out on garbage can with "FREE, engine runs great, $40 piece online to fix" sign.
It was gone within the hour.

I've had $50 on my iTunes account for over a year so figured it wouldn't be so bad to spend the $1.08 on the pay version of the CL App.   I'll let you know how it works.......

Posted my weed trimmer.  Runs great but broke arm off. $40 piece.  I dint want to wait 2 week for part so went and got new one.
Didn't even want hassle of selling engine so put it under free stuff.

Just gave addy. First come, first serve. just grab from side of garage. No need to tell me.
Gave all info.  Brand, horse power, Website to get part, parts number, cost....

Couple hours later get a knock on the door nd guy is standing there with it.
Asks what's wrong with it.  Um....kinda self explainatory situation here but okay.  Explain.  Explain how to fix.
"how much do you think it will cost to fix?".  Like i wrote in Ad.  About $40.
"how much are these new?". How the f*ck should I know. It was $150 two years ago. Just got another for $99.

"well, I guess I'll take it if you throw in the gas can of gas and the bottle of oil" (they were in back ground of picture)

I didn't even respond.  I just grabbed the trimmer and shut the door.  WTF is with people?

I'm pretty much just pick'n estate sales right now.
But the up at 5am to put name on list so your the first in sucks.

Kinda cool tho.  "In" with some regulars.  They don't mind me cutting in on them ahead of all "the rest"

One guy said something last week and a couple regulars backed me up.
Told him that I'm not there for anything they would want anyway and if I'm in shop/garage or kitchen I know what they like and grab it for them or go tell them.

They all have shops. Looking for collectbles and furniture and what not.  I'm looking for smalls, tools and vintage kitchen wares.

Well now the iPad app has decided that it will post my ad's but only after email verification.   Really, what's the point of an account?  Just skip one step of typing in my addy?

And none of the postings have images.

And all flagged for removal.  Why?  Don't know.

Picker's Paradise / Can't win'em all....
« on: July 06, 2012, 07:03:43 PM »
I picked some old flashlights a while back.  $2-$3 each.  Really cool looking and for that price figured I could at least get my money back.  Turned out they ranged from $20-$60 on eBay and people are bidding hard.

So last week was at an estate sale and saw some same style's, really old, so picked them up at $5 each.

Just went and researched them ANnnnnnnd.....people have them listed for $5.   ::)
And in better condition.   And.....no bids.  :-\

At least they work and kinda cool looking.  Guess I'll toss them in the pantry for my own use.  Tho, the battery cost more than a new, better, rechargeable lanterns.   ::)

...
Also, kind shocked I haven't been able to move the Vices I picked at $10/ea.  they range from $180-$450 new.   Asking $50-$125.  All are like new. Used but not beat at all.
Not a bite!   Going to have to load'em up a shop them around.   Sell them from the trunk of my car at 7-11 if I have to....    ;)

Why is everyone so surprised on the goods left in lockers?

People forget.  Grandma dies, bunch of coins in bag in box in chest.  Don't have room or time to go thru so shove in unit. Forgt about it....

My ex called me and said I had some totes in back of locker. I had totally forgotten about them.  Totes had about $3000 of never used Snap-on tools.  I had got them them but then went to new shop that supplied  those tools. Got out of industry and never needed.  Had she lost locker....

Even better example, when I moved I found an envelope that had fallen down inside a dresser.  It had $1000 in it.  Totally forgot I had it there.  It ws from a trip to Vegas 6-7yrs before.  Had I just stuck it in storage I never would of found it.

And then there are people like this girl I was seeing.  She got into drugs. Lost apartment. No where to go.
Stuck it all in storage. Lots of jewelry. Like new name brand expensive clothes. Electronics.
Couldn't pay. Lost locker.
She was the type that was so into her stuff it wouldn't even cross her mind to sell anything.
She wouldn't sell jewelry to pay rent. Rather be homeless than sell her belongings.
Sure, by not selling SOME he lost it ALL but that's just how she thought.....

I might be amazed what is found in unit, never surprised.

Not to mention that it may not go for the amount owed or is inventoried, seen to be just boxes and not auctioned.....so you owe AND piss on your credit score.

.....or get some one that figures it out and comes after you.  Legally or not so legally.

.

Also: We sell ice cold water for 25 cents a bottle when it's hot. Costs 10 cents/bottle. Sold over a hundred bottles last sale. Not a lot of profit but customers were very appreciative.

Guy at swap got a big popcorn machine out of locker. He started selling popcorn at 25cents a bag.  Then started selling water, soda....

Said not only does the popcorn/drinks get people to come over to his table but he makes $25-$50 profit each day but his sales went up too.

Said he tried selling hotdogs and it was 'okay' but to much work to keep an eye on it and sales. Then the health department said he needed a license so stopped.
