I give plenty of stuff away.  The stained, ripped items go to the lady that cleans my house.  She uses the buttons, zippers, and such.

Stuff that doesn't sale in 2 trips to the flea goes in my Goodwill pile.  I then inventory the brand, size, and type (jeans, pants, shirt, polo, etc.).  I even take pictures of what I box up for Goodwill.  Do this as I'm turning in a ton of stuff to Goodwill and will use the credit on taxes.  Just in case I ever get audited I want to show what I turned in.  Since the people at Goodwill never write anything down.

Other stuff that is worth $4-5 bucks I'm going to try and put in lots up on ebay and see if they sale that way.  Not tried it before but one of friends I've made on the auction circuit said he has had some luck doing it.

You can use something like that for the 30-60 mins to finish the auction before you come back to clean it out.  I wouldn't leave it on there long.

If you are going to do this much you need to invest into some locks.  I would also suggest different size/types.

I myself carry two of the round bolt type, 2 thick masterlocks, 2 skinny cheap locks, and 1 long mid-grade type lock.  I do this as a few of the units I've purchased would not fit my high grade, thick locks.  Also, if you hit an auction or multiple auctions in one day you can run out of locks.

Not to sound rude but if you can't afford a pack of locks and a flashlight - don't be doing this.

You can also sell the body, bad parts, etc. to a scrapper or scrap them yourselves.

laugh bwd111 - I'd much prefer to find all the "treasure" that they do on $300 and $400 units and then get full retail price when I resale it like they do when "pricing" stuff.

I use SW more as a learning tool.  I look at the lockers they do and put an estimate on what it will go for.  Then see if I'm right or not.  They sometimes have some decent info on items also.  I just don't take it seriously.

Movieman - since you have had the mitus touch of late Mr. Murphy was bound to show up and screw with ya :)

Matches - don't get discouraged.  If you look in one of the threads on here about how long before some of us purchased a locker you will find many waited 4 or more auctions in.

Fayettenam - that is a ton of smalls.  More then I normally find that are worth a dang.  With Christmas here you may move the angels and such quick.  Take it to the flea or yard sale this weekend and see.  Is what I plan to do.  Have a number of the black jesus, angels, and such.  Sometimes get a few funny looks being a white guy selling what people think of as "black person items" but who cares.  Money is money and it all can sell.

Yes - people bring their kids to the auctions.  My child attends auctions that she can.  Of course she is 13 and am teaching her about buying / selling / bartering.

However - I've seen 1yr old babies, 4 yr olds, 6 yr olds, etc.  When it's just one it doesn't really bother me.  We even have one auctioneer that takes the time to talk with the kids and have them come up front to "help" him.  When it's a 1/2 dozen or more kids, strollers, and retards it makes for a long day.

There is even one older kid, about my daughters age that must be home schooled.  He comes with his father or grand-father who is a doctor.  This kid has some major attitude.  I thought the auctioneer was going to kick both of them out at one auction.  Kid was like "What is taking you so long old man?"  All of us thought one of the regulars put him up to it but he was serious.  I was like "oh man - if that was my kid he would be getting slapped upside the head about now".

I'm almost afraid to hit an auction next week after this has aired.  I can just see people seeing a blue tote and bidding 100s on the locker.

I'm 38 and wife just turned 16, she goes to most the auctions for me

Lol - hope your wife isn't 16.

37 myself, with my wife (35) and oldest daughter (13) doing auctions with me on/off.  My daughter is hooked in both the buying, digging, and selling of stuff.  Dad and I already commented she can get a job in retail when she is 16 easy.

Well you can only have 1 buyer per unit......

Smart remark aside - in my area we are getting good 2x to 3x people vs bidders.  May only have 12 of us bidding but 40+ people looking.  It can get frustrating as an auction that should only take 30 - 40 mins takes 2 hours will all the people just looking.  Course I prefer looky-loos vs more bidders.

Hope you do well Fayettenam.  I also purchased a teachers unit last month at a silent auction.  Don't think I'll make money on the unit...way too many boxes of papers and such.  Can't wait till next week and another new set of auctions for me.

Ya I'm working on a crash course in cloths.  I have 3 huge boxes and about 8 trash bags I filled with cloths from 3 different lockers now.  Not counting stuff that I've already hung to look over or tried to sale.  Some names I know as my kids shop there or such.  Things like Dickies, Arizona, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfinger, etc.  There are many brands I just don't have a clue on.  Trying to make space so that I can start to sort by type, then brand and do some research.  As it is I have a test set of different types of jeans to take pictures of and post to ebay.  See if they sale or not.

I've been doing storage lockers since June and still consider myself a noob.  There is just so much that I don't know.  A good example is a locker that had a ton of cloths in.  I've not even started to sort the 4 huge boxes and multiple bags of cloths that I have.  I did quickly pull out a bunch of silk ties to try and sale at the flea for $1 each.  I may could of made a huge mistake.  Today I did some research via google and ebay on a couple of the ties / name brand.  One is by a company called Next Exit.  The tie is currently sitting on ebay for $18.98.  I didn't think ties would sale but this seller has sold 1000s of them in pre-owned condition.  So if I can take the exact same tie and sell it for $10 I've already made $9 more then I was going to at the flea.

Name brands that I have in this box are: Rene Chagal, Eagovalle, Next Exit, and Aries.  There are more that I've not looked at yet.  Some of the ties are in bad shape with the stitching coming out with others still in great shape.

So word of advice to other noobs from an older noob.  Take the time to research each item that you find and don't know much about.  Even if you think it is only a $1 item you may be surprised.

I could of used those for my wife's computer forensic class she just did.  Checked out one of the computers I had found in a unit but nothing of interest.  Not even on the deleted stuff.
