I had been making payments to them every 3-4 weeks and the last one was just 3 weeks ago. They were aware of the contents and assured me they WOULD NOT auction it off if I kept making payments.

What's the latest news on this predicament ?

think your answer is in the "I had been making payments" obviously behind in rent owed. In Florida they can start the process for auction if you are one day late (not that they do but can)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: dishonest auctioneer!
« on: October 25, 2011, 05:32:56 AM »
I would think that they would have a hard time picking over the lockers. The locker owner could show up 5 mins before the auction and pay it off. If things are missing from their locker someone would have some explaining  to do.
Sounds reasonable but what if the owner of the storage waits six months before putting up the unit for Auction he/she could feel pretty confident they are not going to run in and pay up. His/her loss of rent money, but maybe he/she is not packed out.
We went to a local storage place to ask when they do their auctions and they had more empty than rented.

Try a flea market or yard sale to move low value items.  I do CL for large high value items, Ebay for small high value, and network with as many people as I can.  Just getting started, but plan to suppliment my retirement income doing this.

Thanks, have a pile for the flea market going, Husband went through his stuff too. Have a small computer desk nothing from CL. Taking it to my thrift store contact ( she only charges 20%) just to move it. Have 22 antique windows, noticed there are a lot in the market. I went through them yesterday and removed all the broken glass (I had the replacements) Ended up with only 2 with no glass. As soon as I get them caulked up will take some to the thrift also. Might try and get crafty with a few. I have been avoiding Ebay. But I am going to have to jump in and do it...Have set of Copper pots, brand new set of Pottery barn dishes still in box Those need to go to ebay in my opinion. We are trying to supplement our income also. If I can't move this stuff what do I need with a locker... LOL  Movieman posted his spread sheet that he uses so have been working on that. I think the problem is most of what I have left from our moving/yard sale is right in the middle of the road. I will keep you posted  on how it is going.

Jacksonville mostly so far 3 of my 4 units came from there.  Went to some in Madison and Jasper on a Sat., but don't plan to do that again.  Bought the other unit in Cairo, GA.  I drive a Grand Caravan with a 12 X 6 trailer.
We looked up that way too (Jacksonville) Still getting our feet wet trying to get a little more seed money, Have cleaned out some of our personal stuff. Listed on Local free classified and CL. No hits Getting discouraged.... Going to hit my Thrift store contact she does consignment and very reasonable. Anyway will let you know if we are heading that way. Will at least say hi.

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hello from St Louis
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:58:00 PM »
Welcome aboard. You could go through the phone book make a list and call and ask when and if they they hold  Auctions.  The paper is your best option find the ones that don't list an auction company but still could be a crap shoot. Good luck and keep us posted.

Glendon Cameron well reading this thread I took all the comments about your book and videos as a constructive look from different people. " hey I liked it, Helped me out, Not for me ect."

But after reading your post trying to defend yourself over what I don't know I find your threats offensive

Stores / Re: Booth space versus full store - I bit the bullet

Need some encouragement to bite the bullet. Thanks Ironman for your advice. We have talked about this set up several times. Most of the places around here (central Fl.) the rent is $2.00 a sq. foot +10%. There is a shop that is not to far from us, but I feel there is not a lot of money in our area (high unemployment ect.) We went there the other day and they actually had a space available which 2 years ago they had a waiting list. But talked to a regular at an Auction the other day and he told us he had a spot in a different town and he was surprised at his turn over he was doing really well. Here is the problem, this town is google guess about 50 miles away one way. But there is a lot of money there Retirement community "The Villages". So if I make one weekly trip to keep up my space it will cost me $21 in gas. Ok that is not so bad if I have a good turn over. Some of the Auctions are in that direction too so possible load and unload same day. I just hate adding a bill to our budget. Oh wait the truck will be paid off in two months so there would be my rent money. Ok just need some encouragement are you still doing well and continuing to grow?

Garage Sales / Re: Yard Sale Prices
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:34:08 AM »
Sounds like you got it. I have done clothes at .25 a piece. Usually walks away. Had a lady say oh that is not enough take two dollars for two pieces. Another idea I have taken small misc. stuff that you can't really price separately if you did it would be a penny, ie plastic kitchen stuff and put something with it that you know will sell like Ice trays and tape it all together and ask two bucks. Got have those ice trays and look I get all this stuff with them. Good luck hope you get into the black.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What i sthe average cost you spend
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:11:00 AM »
Lucky you have those resources. We are still paying for our education. If you calculate our time and gas to the auctions we are in the red. Good you are looking into the other expenses of doing this. If you can't have a yard sale every weekend you will have expenses for selling, Fee-bay, Flea-market, ect good luck

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: who has yard sales..?
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:54:02 AM »
All of this sounds spot on, but something to add: 'Advertise' your yard sale through free outlets like craigslist/flyers on community boards. If you have enough merchandise you may want to consider paying for an ad in your local paper.
Yes that is good too... Mine fell on the first nice weekend in two weeks so people were out in droves. When you are stuck inside for two weeks in Fl. you go a little nuts... : ).  People came out and spent money. : ).
