Craigslist / Re: CL iPad app
« on: June 26, 2012, 02:46:27 PM »
I got the iPad primarily cause I was laid up and even tho my pc can be viewed on my bedroom tv (wireless mouse and keyboard signal reaches pc) and I have laptop, both were to hard to use in bed.

Then since iPad has camera I figured why use camera, transfer.....I mean the iPads totally set up for so much it cut out a lot of work in other areas.  Until it came to Craigslist.   You can't import pictures from iPad to listings on the web based platform.  Craigslist doesn't reconized the picture library. So you need app.    When it was working it was a bit of a hassle at first but once you set up an account it was, take picture, open app, click new post, type whatever and import 4pics in about 2 seconds.   A CL post took from takeing picture to being viewed, less than 1 minute.    It had some glitches. But over all it saved time and at any point you can click the app and instantly update ("pending" or delete). Or repost listing in seconds.

Thy had said they had an update almost ready to fix glitches but think they made it worse......

Alias300 wished I could trade for a credit think I would be doing that before trying to sell.  ;)

Haven't tried Plato's Closet yet.  Don't have a lot of high end clothes.

Try asking. I had to.  Usually a donation just gives you 10% off next purchase.  But if you do a quick inventory (20 jeans, 2 suits....) and add it all up using salvation army's donation list (on their website) and say its $500 of donations, can I get $50 in credit, some of the managers are cool like that.

Plato's is real picky.  I've brought them brand new Levi's with tag and they jut pushed to side.
They really know their niche and only buy with-in that.
Men's clothes seem to be top line name brands that most guys don't buy themselves but wives like.
After that its name brand business casual. Golf course stuff.
And pretty much if it doesn't have a logo showing they don't buy.

Had a bunch of Kenneth Cole dress pants that run $100 even at discount stores and they didn't want them.
The clientele not only wants name brand, they want people to know they are wearing name brand.....

Do you think anyone would really buy any of that storage wars apparel junk? Can't wait til the day I see someone wear storage wars apparel  to an auction. They crap they would get for that.

That apparel is pure profit.  Except any you carry in store they are made to order by outside company.  No up front cost.
And I'm sure there is a bunch of people visiting the stores on vacation.  And vacationers always buy tshirts that when thy get home they don't know why they got it!  lol

And I'm totally going to wear one!   That's awesome.  Right  along with ""YUUUP" hat and bone gloves!.....tho all will have to wait till after I get my pet monkey and midget side kick to hold my boom box playing personal theme music. These are my priorities in life.   ;D

Along with that, if anyone knows of them in the NW hit me up. Doesn't really appeal to me but would hit one out of curiosity. Maybe it could turn into something.

I've done a quick look around and didn't find much.  Guess Ken's Baggage handles a lot of it but couldn't find a when or where....even with my extremely dedicated research......looked at their website, didn't see anything after a 30second glance and then started searching for dinner idea's.    ::)

Craigslist / CL iPad app
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:38:09 AM »
Just wanted to throw out that the CL iPad app sucks.  Use to work but after new update.....

First I go to post and I can't just log in.  It pushes me to web based.  Finally after proving myself I can use app.
Then every post I make it makes me do a text verification AND still go to email and click verification link for every post.

So I post all my goods, finally, and this morning went to check on one.....couldn't find it. Next, not there.

Not a single item was posted!
App says they are.  Email says they are.   But I've looked in every possible way and nothing.

Anyone else use CL app for iPad and have you had problems?  Fix?

Might explain why I'm not doing so well selling on Craigslist the past two weeks....

Ill throw in but that little, totally unseen.... I don't know.   I'll gamble $25, maybe $40 if it looks packed well.

But you sell clothes.   I don't.
Hell, I have enough trouble keeping my own clothes washed and sorted and folded.   ::)

I would have gone for $16 unit. Probably gone to $25.  I can gamble with those easy ones.
Would have bid on GameCube unit too but cautiously. Maybe $125.
And the $245 unit I can see the price. Just cause I totally need that chair!  ;D

The pedal car one here would have gone way higher, too.  $275 is still a risk to high for me.

......
I stumbled upon an auction yesterday while estate sale-ing.  30 people, 11 lockers.  It was cash only and I only had about $400 left on me.   Luckily the did upstairs first with the small closet size lockers.  6 of them. Four packed with garbage bags and liquor boxes. Couldn't see a single item. Passed. Went for $60-$80.
Other two were decent but prices jumped over $200 in seconds.
Last five were 10x10 and larger.  I just left.  Figured if these people were bidding upwards of $100 for a closet of unseen items in garbage bags, no way my $400 was going to score a large locker...

Picker's Paradise / Re: Estate Sales
« on: June 22, 2012, 05:15:12 PM »
Got some nice picks in today.

Hit two huge estate sales and three small, not run by estate sale companies.

Big ones, did well at first.  Ton of tools and car parts, major focas. Think they  spent so much time researching the garage and shop that they hurried the rest.
Got some old school Snap-On stuff. Great price but hard sells. Not standard stuff.
Best find was some old Niagara "lanterns" (1930s) for $1ea.  Haven't researched a lot but thinking I should get Over $20/ea pretty easy.

Second big one I got some nice chisels and hand vices from early 1900s. Paid $2/ea. Only have looked up some but vices are not what I thought, sell for $10-$15.   But chisels are some sought after item from England.   Haven't found any going for less that $40.  Only found one exact match so far but bidding is up to $90.   For an F'n chisel!  Whatever, I'll take it.....

Last ones were really good.  Got a bunch of vintage kitchen stuff.  Cutco knives. General merchandise.  All stuff I've Craigslisted fast and easy before. Spent all of $12.    I just filled a bag at one and he said $5 and it had a set of cutco knives and coper sauce pans......

Still have 6 sales that open tomorrow and then go back to two of today's on Sunday for 50% off the leftovers.....

Should be a profitable week.....finally.

Every forum ends up like this.
Talk the sh*t out of a subject. New people come and old timers direct them to past threads instead of talking about subject agian.  Forum turns to a smll group BS'n about non-sense.  New people don't see much content. .....

Tho one forum about 5 of us still talk 10yrs later.  Met in person. Going to ones wedding. And have a place to stay when I'm in London....

So some good comes of sticking around these things.   :)

Small world story:   I was on a forum for about 5yrs.  Eventually, thru time, things the web master said started adding up.  Finally I asked him where he worked.  Turns out he not only worked across the street but I could look out my office window, down about 20 floors, and see him in his office!  I saw him everyday at coffee shop!

Another small world story:  same forum, another member from the east coast was talking and was in my town on business.  Not only was she in the hotel three blocks from my condo but she was opposing counsel to one of our cases!

It's not illegal to run up a bid if you just being a dick. Only if you are doing it with another in hopes that one party receives a financial gain. (Dave Hester's comment that the auctioneer should give him a cut cause he's run up so many bids and made him so much money....    If the auctioneer agreed, that's illegal.)

On the "I won't bid on x-unit if you don't bid on y-unit" runs into some grey area's of the law.

What I do is just not say the words. I'll go to people that look interested and before or during bidding just say "looks like you really want this one, I don't think I want it, I won't stand in your way" something like that.   Just be friendly.   Then if one come up I really want I do the opposite "you don't look like you like tis one. I'm going to try. I need to get something today...."

Found a lot of people will be good and won't bid.  Not illegal .  We both have the right and neither of us are not going to bid if it looks sweet...
A lot of people will still bid but at least they don't run you up cause you were nice.

Just remember people: "you can get farther with a smile and a gun, than just a gun"

.....wait.....I don't think that....ooh, never mind.  You get my point.    :-\

Sort, bag and donate.

You can either get a tax write off or store credit at places like value village.

I usually go for credit then hold them all and "pick".  Turn 100 $1 items into a $30-$40 item that sells fast.
If you don't have outlet to move them, then tun into something you can

Should add that I have 10 pair of " like new" True Religeon jeans I can't get rid of at a decent price.
Going to accept Plato's Closets offer of $22/pair......
Didn't get a single bid on eBay.  I know if I keep listing they will eventually sell but I like cash in hand now

I'm way to lazy and simply don't care enough to research my answer so I'll pose it as a question.....which since I'm unsure it kinda is.

Isnt the Sherman Act for interstate commerce?  Which auctions are not (in most of our cases) so couldn't be applied?

Not to say each of our own states and localities don't have laws against it anyway. Just that the Sherman Act has no relevance in this case.       ???

Tho...guess if the facility has facilities in several states......But the unction is run by a private individual, it would actually be THAT business you are acting against......   :-\

This month we had 6 "automotive" units and as expected the crowd was much larger.  They were some nice units but I stayed away from them since don't have a clue about engines, transmissions, and stuff.

We had two month before last. Same facility so assume same owner.  Everyone stayed away.
I even work in the automotive industry. Billion contacts and I won't touch that stuff if I can't inspect it.
Most tends to be good for nothing more than scrap.

One unit had an engine still in crate. Short block. Figure even for stock, standard car it's a minimum of $500 new.  Ran into winner a few weeks ago at an estate sale and he said it was an awesome unit money wise but total pain in the ass.  Said it seemed like everything in locker weighed 1000lbs. lol
75% went to scrap.  Nothing was quality.  No one wants the block. It's for some odd ball car.
If it hadn't been for the brade new catalytic converters he found in it it would have been a $200-$300 locker.

The second locker he got too and it was sort of a winner. After sales, minus expenses  it was about a $200 loser but it just happened to have the exact struts for his truck. So he got struts for $200.
and was very happy when he found a mini fridge, plugged in, full of beer.  :)
