I just recently decided to check out adsense for feeds. It's not like adsense for websites where you input HTML, you actually create a feed within adsense.

I already had a feed through my blog and website, have around 100 subscribers. When I go to create my feed in adsense it asks for my origional feed address so I put in the one to which I have 100 subscribers.

It creates the feed but shows me as having 0 subscribers. This leads me to believe they created a new feed instead of adding adsense to my old feed where I already have all these subscribers.

However I thought I read something online about how what really happens is they create a new feed that basically redirects to your old feed so new subsribers will see ads but the old ones wont'

Anyone use adsense for feeds and can offer some clarification?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Gas Prices
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:23:50 AM »
Prices just recently got better here. I was paying $4.69 a week or so ago, down to $4.19 when I filled up the other day and I think I've seen it as low as $3.99 although that may have been with a car wash.

I have a midsize 4 cyl car and have been wanting to get a pickup or at the very least an suv for a while but really hesitant with gas prices.

In addition to auctions it's always a pain not having a truck, just yesterday I needed some drywall from home depot, dry walling my garage, no truck couldn't get it home. Also when my motorcycle breaks down hwo do I get it to the mechanic without a truck.

Not to hijack the thread but just out of curiousity what are you guys driving? Do you drive a truck as a daily driver or just for auctions?

I'm suprised by hwo bad MPG is on even a small 4cyl truck like a Ranger, I think even a 6cyl 4runner gets as good if not better mileage.

Flea Markets / Re: When to "dump" your flea market inventory?

I suppose another question in line with what your talking about is what stuff should be thrown away immediately?

Don't get me wrong there's osmething to be said for at least trying to sell something. Heck I had some pokemon cards I was about to throw in the trash, wound up getting a couple hundred bucks for them so had I thrown them out I wouldn't have made that money.

That said I also have cheap plates and dishes, clothes, etc that I have been sitting on for a year. Alot of the stuff probably should have been tossed immediately.

I have a bit of a hoarding problem though lol. Kidding of course but I do keep too much. Every item you take out of a locker is potential $$$, even junky tshirts can be sold as car washing rags for a quarter so I hate tossing anything and not trying to make a buck off of it.

That said it also takes up storage space, time and effort hauling junk around just to make a quarter.

Intersting question you pose though and I'm interested in seeing others answers to it.

My general rule is I'll list something on ebay 3 times at decent prices, if it still doesn't sell I'll basicallyl put it up at a price to cover cost, maybe I make 0.50 cents maybe I break even but i get rid of it and I get a point on my ebay score.

I'm all for giving stuff away for charity reasons but I always hear people talk about donations as if your making money or saving money on tax breaks. Always feels like I have tons of donations but it never makes much of a difference come tax time so don't give something away figuring it's just quicker and easier than selling b/c you would be better off making cash off it.

I think a little competitiveness is good and some back and forth banter is fun but when it comes to people arguing or knocking each others sites or comments, there's really no sense in it and no place for it. I think we all come on here to kill some time, share some knowledge, maybe network, crack some jokes etc. If I want to argue I'll go talk to my gf lol.

In all seriousness though I know a bunch of us on here have had some back and forth jawing with each other and it's really kind of dumb. None of us are really competitors be it at auctions or with websites and blogs.

I think all of us will get further collaberating and networking than we will fighting with each other. I was actually going to reach out to a few people and see if people with blogs, sites, etc are interseted in working together be it through reciprical links, banner exchanges, guest blogging on each others sites or even just linking to each others articles.

It's a lot of work comming up with origional content for a site or blog but at the same time you want to keep regular updates and keep things fresh. Writing a quick artilce and linking to a good article on someone elses site is a great way of keeping some fresh content with little work and also teaming up to help drive traffic for each other.

There have been a number of articles about the show pawn quens on the net and in some papers and stuff mostly knocking it.

I have to agree, I watched some of the new episodes last night. They are totally copying Pawn Stars now. If you watch the old season the way they structured the episodes and how it was filmed wasn't very realistic and it was more of a storyline with these idiot girls trying to run a pawn shop more so than actually a show about resale or pawn shops.

Apparently they decdied if you can't make a hit show on your own why not just copy a hit show.

Everything about it is totally copying. The way they deal with sellers has totally changed and they pretty much use the exact same phrasing as pawn stars, what are you trying to get out of it, calling everyone boss, etc. They also put up numbers on the screen what have they gotten it for, what will they flip it for, etc. The show used to be totlly different. Not any better but diff but you can totally tell they realized their show sucked and just decided to TOTALLY copy anything and everything from pawn stars.

The storage auction game is constantly changing so I think that keeps things fresh to an extent. Sure some topics have been talked to death but I always see different angles to convos we havn't had before.

Its like talking about movies. Pretty much every movie that comes out now days is another take on a movie that's already been made just a different setting, different characters, etc.

I think crowds have dwindled a little agree that prices are still high. ALso agreee about no cheap units. I used to love picking up the units that were $5, $25, $40, etc. Now all those units go for like $85-$120.

If they say they will call you guys later not in an accusatory way but maybe in front of everyone say why don't you just read them now, I'd be curious to see how far off I was if I don't win or something along those lines.

May not make you any friends at the facility but I think you can do it in a way as to not piss off the owner but also get other buyers on your side.

Even if there's 50 or 60 people at the auction which I doubt, how long does it take to grab one number, if its $400 keep throwing out papers until something beats $400, tehn keep that paper and keep tossing until something beats that. WIll probably take a whole 3 minutes to do.

Jose, just curious if the guy mentioned before the auction happenned that this is how the auction would be run?

I just thought of why this is even more suspicious. At least in my area it seems to be the unit belongs to the owner until the auction happens. The good thing about this is it makes it tough for a manager to loot a unit.

With this setup you described though the manager held the auction so the unit no longer belongs to the owner. Then he probably has a few hours befor he calls you and notifies you that you won where he could go through the unit. The origional owner no longer has any rights to the unit and you really don't know what you have or what happenned to the unit between the auction and when you take possession of it.

Here's what I would recommend people do in the future at silent auctions. In front of everyone ask if they will read the winning bid while you guys are all standing there.

Jose, this seems funny to me how the auction was run.

I love silent/sealed bid auctions and actually seek them out so I've been to MANY and have never seen it done how you described.

I have always seen all the papers opened on the spot, highest bid takes the unit. Everyone hears what the winning bid was. Its nice b/c you always wonder how short you were, gives you insight into what to do next time and most importantly you know everytging is on the up and up.

For all you knwo this guy has a buddy pay him a buck less than the best offer, storage company only loses a buck, his freind gets in for rock bottom price. Heck he could even be buying the units himself if he likes the price.

I think all bids should be read off on the spot. IF he were up to something and you heard him say highest bid won at $350 and you bid $375 you know he's pulling a fast one on you guys.

The only legitimate reason I could imagine was if there was a huge crowd and he didn't wanna sort through 50 papers but really how hard is it to flip through and just toss papers out until soemthing beats the number you have in your hand.

Something seems strange about this to me

Jose, sorry to hear that, that really sucks. Like someone else said, this may wind up being a good thing, now your a fulltime auction hunter at least for the time being. Get out there and really give auctions and resale 100% see if you can make it a full time gig while your out there looking for another job. Best of luck.

In  my area for a while we were seeing lots of facilities start to take credit cards and certain auctinoeers had all their auctions at facilities who were taking them.

It lasted a couple of weeks and everyone went back to cash.

I can see an argument being made that those stellar units could bring in big bucks if they took credit cards however it's probably more headaches than its worth. The storage facility has to pay merchant fees, there is the possibility of charge backs if someone decides they spent too much on a unit, etc.

Also, oddly enough most of the auctions I go to don't charge cleaning deposits. I go to the same facilities over and over so they would probably waive them for me anyway since I always fully clean out and sweep my units but I'm surprised I'm not seeing many cleaning deposits.

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Full Today, No Spaces Available

At my flea market of preference the only way you can reserve a spot and one of the tent spots is if you will be there every weekend the whole summer. If you dont buy it for the whole summer you cant reserve just gotta show up early every morning.

Was just looking in the sunday paper today. For the first time in a long time I saw an auction that listed what was in units. This really turns me off to wanting to attend the auction. One did say something like 8 vending machines. Easy to flip if they are modern machines, the older ones are cheap as hell, a dime a dozen and heavy and a pain to move.

I suppose I don't mind if they list large itmes like a boat, armoir, etc things you cant miss just peeking in a unit. When they start listing small stuff and stuff that would be found in totes and things like that really turns me off as it's obvious they have gone through the whole unit.
