Yeah or like a guy i know who spent 4900 dollars on a pallet from Mexico. When he got home and opend it, all that was in there was plastic shopping bags. The problem was that the bags had logo's on them for a store that had gone out of business 4 months earlier.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Any suggestions when you see a safe?
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:40:07 PM »
Tclane you mention Sentry safe in your blog.
But why hire a locksmith to open it?

When you can make one phonecall to Sentry and have them email you a form that you fill out and fax back.
That way you get both the code and new keys. Cost of this is 35 dollars.

A locksmith cost more then that, and they can not provide you with a key or a code after they opened it.

That is one service that i don't need, as i can get everything locally for free. In the whole state for that matter. And if i want to go to Arkansas or Mississippi then i can get everything there for free as well.

Paid auctionlists are for lazy newbies, and they will never last long. If you are serious about the business, then you lay down the foundation in everything you do. Finding places and doing it on your own is more valuble to your total business then beeing passiv and lazy.

That's good; hope it stays that way ..... a lot better than 60 to 100 !

What were the prices like ?

Prices has dropped big time. Yesterday we had one of the big auctions.
I will say that the prices has dropped about 20% to 25% since december & january when we had the crazy hype around here.

Now it is possible to get decent lockers for under 100 bucks, and good ones can be yours for under 200.

Of course some lockers still drag up to about 500/600 bucks, but that is lockers that are worth it.
Last two weeks i have picked up lockers between free and 425 dollars. And they have made me 3 times the money or more.

So this is good. The biggest difference is that the dumb newbies are gone (still some newbies, but they seem to understand the game), and the regulars are bidding more conservative.

I use that workforce flashlight on the top. It is pretty good and the battery lifetime is ok. Way better then a Stanley flashlight i had.

My workforce last me almost thru a whole day of auctions. If there is many lockers then i have to charge it between locations. But normally it last me around 25-30 min non stop. That is almost a full day of auctions.

The only thing i don't like about it is that it feels cheep, because of the cheap plastic. But as long as it works i am game on this one.

Ohh, and i always bring 3 flashlights with me. 2 are backups. One in the car and one in my pocket, (small LED type)

Looks like an English style of vase.

What you can try is to put a sheet of copy paper over there ingraving, and gently color over with a pencil.
That might bring out the first 3 letters of it, as it will transfer over to the paper.

Vases can be tricky, some are not worth much, some can have a moderate value, while some has a great value.

The crowd here in Memphis is getting smaller and smaller for each week. Todays 4 auctions had maybe at the most 18 people, and alot of them was pairs. So if we say 9 bidding pairs then we are close.  First auction of the day only had like 8 or 9 people.  The last 3/4 weeks in memphis has been really good. we are talkig about 25 or less as a stable number of people.

You are on the right track, lol.

I did not mention any prices to them, i asked them what they was willing to pay if i took their trash with me. Some said 15 bucks, others gave me 20 bucks.

But the thing is, people throw away so much good stuff, i kept 2 items and have sold on of them today for 30 bucks. So my total profit from the dump trip is 130 bucks.

On my trip i took trash from 5 neighbors.  I have told them that i go at least twice a month, and on a busy month once a week. I am planning on another dump trip on tuesday and have 2 neigbours lined up for trash consolidation, one has offerd 10 bucks, and the other 15 bucks. And thats ok when i know my dump fee will be around 16 bucks. A couple more next week and the profit will come once more. LOL

I was fed up with the trips to the dump and the cost that coms with it.
So i sat down one day last week and came up with some ideas on how to get paid for my trash instead of paying for it.

And then it hit me, so i made a flyer and walked out in the neighbourhood. 30 min later i prepared my trip for the dump the next morning, and i smilled all the way there.

I went to the dump and threw away my storage auction trash for free and made 100 dollars profit.

Mr. A, did you actually give the manager permission to give up your home address?

I imagine even someone having your phone number coudl potentially turn into a hassle but you can always block a number however home address, woudln't want anyone who's stuff I had knowing where I live.

I'd probably give an email address they could contact me at. I'm prety fed up with even trying to give stuff back, nobody wants anything back as far as sentimental things, they all want things of value if they want anything at all. At this point I'm just throwing stuff away if the facility wont take it.

I told them that they could contact me thru them. Well someone at the Storage facillity thought it was ok to give out my phone number to the guy. And when you have a phone numberthen it is easy to find an address.

And now that i live in Memphis, i am not doing it any more. This town is pretty wild, with some crazy people out there.  So here in Memphis no way.

Check out reply #1 in the link below. Deals with former owner showing up to get his pics back for free and look at other stuff he might buy back.

For the most part (certainly not ALL) they are losers and pretty much not worth dealing with.

I tracked a former owner down once, (not easy) but with help from the local PD i got a hold of her.
The whole locker looked so neat and in order. But it was really dusty, no one had been in it for years.

Well the lady who have had the same locker for 8 years, had suddenly stopped paying for it, and was 4 months past due.

What i wanted to give back to her was wedding pictures, graduation pictures and papers. But also an ingraved bracelet that she had gotten from the mayor for some reason .

The PD tracked her down and i got to meet her, she was in her late 70's and had been admitted to a nursing home. And with no family knowing about her locker it went past due.

The moment i got there and showed her what i had, that is a moment i will never forget. She was so happy to see all her personal papers and pictures.

Well after that i have always said to the managers that if they want their stuff back they can contact me thru them. Well diden't that blow up in my face. This guy contacted me ad wanted this and that back, and i said no way. Papers and pictures are ok. But everything else is mine. If he wants it he can buy it back. Well this guy "dopehead" came to my door and was really threatning me and my family. I told him he had 2 min to leave or the cops would be called.  He was yelling all the way to the car and said he would come back.  I don't care about that dopehead anymore, as this was while i lived in Knoxville,TN.  If he had come back, my little friend .357 magnum would be ready for him.

eBay / Re: Ebay Started Charging Final Value Fees On Shipping As Well
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:33:26 PM »
I try to stay away from ebay as much as possible.
There is a lot of things i don't like about them.

I sell way more on Craigslist then on ebay, both when it comes to amount and items. Even small stuff sells pretty good on craigslist.
Beside that i have created my own little system that i use for selling, this provides me with instant customers and sales.
To set my system up, it took some work in the beginning, but after it is all in place and the template is there, then the rest of it is easy.

And by having my own little proven system (mailing list), i even have returning customers, i have order lists, even wish lists from several customers.
These two lists i use as a guide when i am out bidding on lockers.

But this was about ebay, well i will never be a big user of them, unless they change in a big way.
