Other Forms of Selling / Re: Wondering if anyone sells on etsy.com?
« on: January 23, 2014, 11:05:51 AM »
Or printers.

Printers could technically fit too.  But probably would have to be a print specific printer.   Like a plotter or high end that does quality pictures/posters.   Don't think your average $45 HP inkjet would qualify.

I think he meant stuff you make using a 3d printer. So self manufacturing gun parts, clips, etc. using a 3d printer, then it would qualify as homemade.  ;)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Saving money on shipping

Most Newspapers will sell the leftover rolls that are not long enought to print out the next batch, usually pick them up around 5 bucks, usually have 500 yards or more of newspaper left on them. Wife uses it for arts and crafts with the kids, I use it for packing.

Where I live craigslist does not really cover my geographic area at all. But I have similar problems selling on Facebook and other venues. I typically just have people meet at my house. (Very small realtively quiet community). I usually don't give out my address though until they text me to say they are on their way to pick it up, that way I do not give my address out to flakes. Worked pretty well so far, if we arrange for a time and they don't text, I lost a sell that night but hey at least they don't have my address.

Online Storage Auctions / Re: How do you feel about buyer's premiums?
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:20:54 PM »
I think that some buyers forget about the buyer's premium in the heat of the moment and end up overbidding.

That is really the only downside in my opinion. If I know beforehand, who cares, I see a locker I want to bid on, I decide my high bid is $500. So $500 - 10% buyers premium is $450. My high bid is now $450. Another bidder comes in his high bid is also $500. He forgets about the buyer premium and ends up paying $550. Now if There were no premiums and I did not bid $500 first I would have lost anyway. But if there were no permiums and I bid $500 first I win. But in the heat off the moment max bids change as well and usually my original max bid is 30%-50% lower than I really would go sometimes.

PayPal / Re: Does PayPal ever hold your funds for any reason?
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:10:00 PM »
No holds on funds since I was a new eBay user. I can pull it out as fast as it goes in, well I have to wait for the 3 day transfer, but you know what I mean. ;)

PayPal / Re: PayPal....How do you get your funds ?
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:07:23 PM »
Direct withdrawal for free to bank account. Usually takes no morre than 3 days. but then I never am desperate for that money so the wait is no big deal.

I usually start mine about an hour later 6:30 Pacific because alot of us in California are still commuting around 5:30 cuts out a big bunch of potential last minute bidders/snipers.

I think it depend on the popularity of the item, if I have an item the regularly sells for $100+ with lots of bids, I can start it lower, say $10-$20 bucks. It attracts more lowballers and cheapskates who will not win the auction but bid low and early in hopes of getting a great deal. This in turns shows interest in the item and the higher number of bids early make people look to see what it is that people are bidding on, then you get the more serious buyers attention and the bidding war can begin and coul go well over $100. If I start the bid at $99 I usaully get 1 bid for $99 if I get a bid at all. If the item is less popular all items ending with 1 bid, I would do buy it now all the way.

eBay / Re: How long should an eBay auction run?
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:40:53 PM »
For me it depends on the item, after research if it is a popular item that has had several bidding wars, 7 or 10 day auction to get maximum exposure start bid low and let the bid war begin. If same or similar items have ended with 1 or no bids or there are a lot of other buy it nows, if I have the margin, I price it about $5-$10 lower and let it ride the buy it now train until it sells.

I guess it depends on what your opening bid price was, and that is as low as you are willing to go. If you had it up for a week auction with no bids and you are not willing to go any lower. I would throw it up for just a buy it now at that price for a month or so, if it still doesn't sell, put it at my yard sale for that price minus ebay fees and shipping costs. still doesn't sell obviously noone in the world that wants it is looking for it at the moment so cut your losses. deeply discount at yard sale or donate to thrift.

I am a top rated seller, and most if not all of my lisitngs have the top rated plus next to them as I offer the 14 day return policy with stipulations listed in description and in return policy and at checkout and on invoice if sent. ( I only send an invoice if they haven't paid by the next day). I also upload tracking by the end of the next business day. Benefits to me, it knocks my final value fess down to 8% from 10% some months that is a pretty good chunk of change.

eBay / Re: What do you think is the best time for an eBay auction to end?
« on: January 13, 2014, 11:52:40 AM »
I usually use a 7 day auctionand end mine between 6:00 -7:30 pm on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. That way I get an entire weekend for people to find and start watching the item and then they can bid or even last minute snipe, when they are home relaxing or whatever they are doing in the middle of the week. Fridays and Saturdays are horrible because people are busy doing things and Sundays for me are lazy days, I won't even pull eBay up. Basically the people that do search eBay on the weekends. should see my listing if I have it optomized, and be home from work in the middle of the week to bid.

I sell most of my international through the global shipping program, I am free and clear once it hits the US shipping center in Kentucky. A few item that are small enough and unique enough to not have scammers, I offer first class international shipping myself as it saves them $20-$30 over the global shipping program and therfore increases my chance of a quicker sale. I have probably sold $20-30 items international anywhere from a $8 item to a $200 item with never an issue.

Sorry, forgot to mention I only use USPS, convenient, fast, and cheap, at least for 99% of the itewms I sell.

the other issue is as a power seller/top rated seller im required to ship within 24 hours. someone waits til 6 hours after buying to tell me they want upgraded. even if i send an invoice right away they wait a day to pay, now im at risk of losing my ebay power seller and top rated seller status so i just tell people whats offered is whats offered.

You only have to ship by the end of the next business day after receiving cleared payment. You still get your discounts and keep your status if the person waits 3 days to pay. then pays on Thursday morning. As long as tracking is uploaded by 5 on Friday your good.
