Anyone know if they're still having the weekend flea market in the parking lot of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa?

If any of the 3,000 members here live in southern California they aren't admitting it.

Strictly speaking this isn't "storage auction reality shows" though it IS part of the on-going DRAMA of the television stars we have come to love and hate.

Read the article at the link below to see what the dynamic duo is up to in JUNE, 2013 !

Hey, it's tough coming up with relevant content these days.  ;)

Well, I'll give you this; the pop-up shop story (on YOUR website) was many steps up from the other thread you started asking how old we thought Barry was.

So, I take it Dave is going to apply for his auctioneer's license. Do you have to have certain training/education to become an auctioneer in California?

You have to go to the Acme School of Auctioneering. Be sure to go through the correct door when you get there; don't get it confused with the Acme Safe & Anvil Company and if you see a Wiley looking coyote and a "meep, meep" roadrunner be sure to stand aside. Whether you want to look UP or not is up to you.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #5...May, 2013

Went to an auction the other day that had 20 lockers and a crowd of only about 25 people; 6 regular buyers, rest were people I had not seen before.

Prices were OK, but I didn't buy a locker. Best one went for $700 and contained A LOT of totes ! It was mostly a mystery locker but there were a few things showing. None of the regulars went for it. It went to a newb.

Of the 20 lockers I would say 8 or so were just trash. They sold for $5 to $25.

So, a bust for me, but two of the regular buyers bought lkrs. One got one for $600...think he will do OK, too much big stuff for me.  The other got one for $450 I think; he has a store (which is just breaking even after 6 months) and from what he says, his every other month yard sales are doing well.

Meanwhile, I poke along and am happy with what I get and sell and the lighter work load.

951
Maybe he has and they've edited him out.

Or not shot footage of him at all. I doubt either one of them wants anything to do with the other and I imagine A&E and the production company probably have some provisions built into a settlement that he NOT show up at auctions where filming is taking place.

Even though it's a public auction, if some kind of legal document is in force, he would be foolish to go against it.

When Dave had his thrift store they filmed that he was holding auctions there. Not many people, but that was months ago before he was fired. He had put that into play on film a time back.

I think the auction house to which you refer was for selling individuals items. The type of auction business I am referring to is where an auctioneer shows up at a storage facility and auctions off liened storage units. That would be a NEW endeavor for him.

If he ever got it going he could start a competition with Storage Wars on TV with Dave Hester as either the featured auctioneer or in some other capacity. Maybe they would call it "The REAL Storage Wars".  ;D

This is according to RyanD to used to work for JohnC who is an auctioneer in central California. Ryan worked for John for 18 years before quitting in April, 2013.

In a recent one on one conversation with RyanD, Hester indicated the recent big art buy that Darrel made was the storage locker of the artist himself, that the artist was still living, that none of the art has been sold on Darrel’s website. Additionally, the store where Darrel got an appraisal was a hole-in-wall nothing of a business.

It’s a long way to $300K (or a million as Sheets is now claiming) when you haven’t sold one painting yet (as of  early May, 2013).

954
Yep, according to the source below Dave wants to start a company like Dan Dotson and all the other regional and local auctioneers we buy from.

This is according to RyanD to used to work for JohnC who is an auctioneer in central California. Ryan worked for John for 18 years before quitting in April, 2013.

Ryan talked to Hester at a recent storage facility manager’s convention.

According to Ryan, Hester isn’t having much luck so far in recruiting funding, storage facilities, etc, but that doesn’t mean he’s giving up.

Be interesting to see if Hester can come through with a working model. He does have experience in buying, selling and even having an auction house, plus he is very well known, so now if he can just pull it together, he MIGHT be a person to watch out for.  ;D

Craigslist / Re: Some Tips for Listing on cList
« on: May 08, 2013, 10:08:20 AM »
Not much posting going on in any of the threads here at the forum, so I decided to try HGPs html for the "click on me" link to items for sale.

I used a slightly different approach in the ahref part itself, but still the same idea. Additionally, I put something above and below the link as shown below:

...<center><font color="blue" size="3">
To see all the items I have for sale, just click on the link below. Once you get there click on the GRID VIEW button
to see a nice visual display of the items I have for sale and you can click on the ones you're interested in.
Usually there will be a half dozen items or more.</font></center>

(the ahref statement goes here)

.....<center><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color="red" size="5">
Don't hesitate..call now !</font>
</center><p>.....

You can insert ...bracket br ... or ...<p>... statements in the larger text area to break it up the way you want. Hard to
represent it here.

Edit:  Thanks HGP...it IS a good idea to account for those Clist users who aren't necessarily lazy but just don't have
the know how to cut and paste, etc.  Just one less step. Makes it look like eBay more too.

I use Clist pics (maybe 2 or 3) and THEN put html pic links in main text to give BIG pics. HOWEVER, I think I remembe seeing something from cList that they will soon be eliminating that possibility. eBay mentions this repeatedly as something to NOT do on eBay as it makes the pics less friendly on MOBILE devices.

I was mainly talking about how the conversations on this forum have drifted into everything except storage auctions and re-sale.......

Yep, we're grasping at straws to keep any kind of coversation going. How about a new thread..."How old do you think Dan Dotson is?".

What about "How many auction buyers really want to sell the remnants of their buys at an online auction site?"

Then there's always "Here's one more shot of Brandi's attributes" (I like to start those !).

Maybe the novelty is doing it in the BIG city! OOHHH! They're soooo trendy, those big city folk!

And it made fodder for the AuctionsTx.xxx website.  ;D

According to the source below the Pop-Up idea has been around for a long time (around 10 years or so) and maybe that's where the New York Gals from SW got the idea.  Apparently Target, JC Penny, etc have been heavy-duty participants for some time.....why not the little guy ?

Hmm, would I open a pop-up shop knowing full well I'm breaking the law...hmm? Doubt it!

If questioned by some law enforcement official you could just tell them you were "maintaining the flow of traffic".

Here's a post Cobia made in another area, but I think he might agree it fits here too.

Boy, I guess the storage auction industry has just shriveled up a died away!

My response is that finding quality lockers is IMPOSSIBLE in my area (or at least as far as I travel) and that
prices are out of line for the lockers that are for sale.
