New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Craigslist

Craigslist really shoudn't be the main place you look for auctions, personally I've never seen them in my area on CL though I guess I've never really looked much either. What category do they normally post them in community or something like that?

Check the local newspaper, check local auctioneers websites and get on their lists.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Gas Prices

I've always stuck to auctions pretty close to home for the most part. Sure there's a few facilites a little further away that I normally have good luck at and a few somewhat rural ones I'll drive out to but for the most part there's more than enough auctions within a 30 min radius of me I don't really feel the need to venture much further.

I am somewhat surprised by the guys who drive out my way from Indiana and far North, especially when I havn't seen them buying much but see them at all the auctions in my area and driving their 4 door F250's and stuff like that, can't be cheap.

I drive a 4 cyl Toyota tothe auctions and then borrow a buddies truck and go back to get my stuff or use the facilities truck if they let me.

I'm a law abiding citizen who doesn't know a thing about illegal drugs soo... if I find bags of lawn clippings or baby powder in a locker I'm am just going to put on my gloves and throw them in the nearest dumpster. I am NOT going to pretend I am on CSI Miami and try to figure out what it is.

As far as money goes. Money doesn't commit crimes, people do!

Your post just made me think of a youtube vid I watched the other week. This guy was talking about how he put on gloves to throw out a bag of pot and he said other drugs, then specifically addressed needles.

The guys vid had me laughing. Pot isn't going to hurt you, heck some of my buddies from the auction would put it in some brownies and eat it so it touching your hand isn't going to hurt you.

The funiest part however was the guy was using baseball glvoes to pick up hypodermic needles. That's not going to protect you from getting poked by an aids or hepatitis needle.

I like to plug things from time to time so I don't have much room to talk but I was laughing when I first read this post. This isn't spam...lol...kinda like saying "with all due respect" when talking with someone. Your basically prefacing something disrespectful your about to say...lol.

I have been better about my inclination to spam though. The old me would have said visit freestorageauctionlists.com but you know what, I'm not going to do that.

lol

Actually if you found drugs and money all you can do is pray because no matter what you do your screwed!!!!

1) If you Turn it over to the police then they will take a statement and you will be part of the investigation. Now you run the risk of the wrong people finding out who you are be it Drug Lords, Gangbangers, or the mob. Your running the risk of being on the front news of the paper or even worse being put on the stand.

2) You can not leave the facility with any of it! The cops will wonder why you didnt call the police immediately and decided to keep it. This could happen if police investigation leads them to the storage locker you bought, you get pulled over by cops upon leaving the facility, or simply someone turns you in to the cops.

3) The people who own the locker could strong arm the Facility and get your name and address, this means at anytime someone could show up at your front door looking for their stuff!

4) You cannot turn over the drugs and keep the money. The police will be suspicious because large amounts of drugs and large amounts of cash go hand in hand. They will investigate you just in case you did keep some drugs for yourself or you found money with the drugs.

So now lets fire this topic up......What would you do????;

No smart drug dealer is going to ekep his drugs and money in the same place. Turn on a rap music station in your area, I gurantee you'll hear that within the first three songs you listen to...lol.

Picked up a small unit on my lunchbreak today...lol...I got a solid wood headboard and a few other thigns but have a ton of license plates.

I know people often hang them in their garage but normally they are their old plates from places they lived.

Wondering if there's any market for random license plates? Do they sell at flea markets, garage sales, etc? I see them on ebay but its mostly exoctic places or customized plates that seem to sell.

Also, if I do sell them any issues with that? I know personally I probably woudlnt want my old plates out there, who knows if someone does a driveby or robs a bank with them. Any issues with selling them?

In my area you its basically expected you put a lock on your unit as soon as you win the auction. Normally there are a few auctions at a facility and everyone moves on to the next unit so unless your ok with having your unit unlocked while you go to the next unit you shoudl have one. Also the managers normally lock up the office when they are doing the auctions so you'l have to wait until until all the acutions are over and then its kinda a hassle b/c he's trying to take payment from 5 other guys and you and you need to buy a lock. You can buy them at the facility but its normally like $15 for the same lock you can get at a hardware store for half of that or less.

SEE GUYS my manbag does come in handy...lol...I must have 20 molley clips or whatever they call those clips on the bag. I normally hang a few locks from there.

The pics don't quite do the picture quality justice but here's some pics...

Thanks TC, I wound up paying $200 for mine at the auction, didn't have a smart phone at the time so just took a guess and was banking on these things being like $1000 plus. I think Tiger Direct sells them refurbished for around $400 give or take.

Everything was factory sealed and wanted  to leave it that way so I could sell it and say 0 hours and hav epeople believe that.  I finally decided to sell on ebay instead of CL so took it out of packaging to test it as I didn't wanna sell something not working and didnt wanna say untested as that would bring less $$.

Man what  a great picture. I'm wishing I hadn't taken it out the box now I want to keep it and think I'm going to. I figure even if I could get $400 for it no way I'm getting a tv that beats this thing in quality or picture size.

I figure this thing will really be cool for having friends over for a movie night, playing some NHL 2011 on the xbox or even popping in some adult dvd's for me and the gf...lol.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Anyone know anything about Pokemon Cards?
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:46:39 PM »
I finally wound up breaking them into lots of 100 and sellign them on ebay. I actually did pretty well. Many of the lots went for between $15 and $22 plus $5 shipping. A few went for like $5-$15 plus $15 shipping.

All together I think I made about $120 off them, pretty good for something I was almost going to just throw away. I wound up finding another 50 or 55 cards or so and just put them up on ebay as a lot.

I took pics of every single card, would lay out 10 at a time take a pic so did take some time. I felt it was worth it though as I know nothing about the cards an dpeople who do know could see exactly what they are getting, I also had people asking q's about specific cards so imagine some good ones in there.

I think taking the time to take pics was worth it, otherwise even though I dont know the first thing about these cards I think people may assume you take out the good cards and just sell the commons, I know I usually assume that when I see unsorted lots on ebay of cards

Start reading the posts in the ebay, craigslist, flea market, garage sales sections. You'll begin to get an idea of what sells well and where. What problems some of those places present, etc.

958
Dont mean to be pessimistic but the fact your asking this question to me means you probably shouldn't be in the business.

Rule number one in my book is don't go into debt and Don't spend what you cant afford to lose.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Bed Bugs ???
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:19:21 PM »
I've never had a problem but it is something I worry about. With clothes I normally bag them up in an airtight bag and leave them for a week. Not sure how effective this is but it makes me feel better.

Bedbugs main weakness is heat and relatively low heat. I believe they die off at about 140 degrees. THere's actually companies that will come heat your house to that temp if you get them. Obviously not all of us have a sauna but if you do throw the stuff in there and they are dead. I imagine you could probably make a heat box big enough to basically throw clothes and furniture in to sanitize if your that concerned about them.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Ripoff auction
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:17:06 PM »
That's what's dangerous about the high prices these days. Back during my tv story I just mentioned there were 4 tohers at the auction. I knew even without a tv I could make money. Today however that units would have gone for $1400 in my area.

People pay high prices when they see good things. What people dont keep in mind mainly newbies if you ask me is that A. is there even a tv in there? B. Does the tv actually work or has it been water damaged, wires chewed by mice etc.

The great thing about storage auctions used to be you got in at a good price to absorb the risk of the electronics not being there, not working, etc however now with prices so high if your banking on something being there and its not you are probably going to be lucky to break even.
