Boy, I guess the storage auction industry has just shriveled up a died away!

Don't know if you meant the above comment to go in this thread or another one, but it is seeming accurate where ever it belongs.

My area is DEAD for quality lockers and decent prices.

The Treasure Chest / Re: last couple of auctions have been great
« on: May 06, 2013, 07:41:39 AM »
That is a great sign that you got good units. Hope it is going to continue for the rest too. Not everybody is always so lucky to get  such good deals and hence you must be aware of next transactions.

OK, I'm a cynic.

Whenever I see a post like this with the language as used in the quote above I immediately think, "This person has no more interest in buying auction lockers and selling the contents than the man in the moon."

Join one day, make one post as above and used language like "....must be aware of next transactions" I'm thinking the real interest is promoting the website used in the signature line.

I would think "normally" there would be a first post like "I'm excited about buying lockers and looking for help here on the forum."  That of course wouldn't be in this thread or even this section of the forum.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm trusting my gut.

Edit:

What other member here has listed gender, age AND a physical street address in their profile. The answer to that one is NONE.

Then check out the address:

Zipcode in profile is for Gainsville, Fl area but city listed in profile is city of Oak Creek, FL which has a zipcode of  33545

Distance between these two zipcodes is over 100 miles.

Like I said, I may be wrong, but I’d be interested in hearing back about these inconsistencies. Even if I am wrong, wouldn’t someone who posts a website link in their postings have accurate information in their profile? Maybe not.

Edit #2:

The website in the signature line is owned by a foreign sounding gent in NEW JERSEY.

A Google search shows (in the top) two results....first one age and then another with a 6 year difference between the two.  ;D

Craigslist / Re: Some Tips for Listing on cList
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:16:33 PM »
Or if you place a phone number in Ad #1 and you use it in your other dozen or whatever listings, just tell them to do a search on your phone number within cList. That will pop up all your listings.

If they use the "grid" view they'll see photos of each of your item and they can click on the one they want. That is IF you use the cList photo approach. I do that and HTML my own larger pics in within the text of the ad. With the grid view they get a nice visual approach to your listings without having to click on each one.

*****

To those who don't want to list a phone number: You could use a phone number you don't use very much if you are concerned about problems with using a phone number. I have been using my approach with my home number for 9 years and haven't had any problems. My home phone has an answering machine on it and usually calls go to that. That results in them leaving a number of course and I call them back.

One cLister in my area goes to elaborate lengths when posting his phone number (I guess to avoid the problems I have never had.) If his phone number was 555-4673 he will put "call 5 five five - 4 six 7 three" in one listing and maybe a variation on that like "call five 5 5- four 6 seven 3" in another listing. Talk about paranoia!

I turn off (with radio button in listing) the opportunity for them to use email to respond to the ad. This eliminates spammers.

Works for me. May not suit you. That's why choices are great.

Yep, your approach make it look like the "check my other items on eBay". Works good.
I see the Erector sets are slowly going down in price. Hell, I'll pay you $5 just to donate the monkey to Goodwill !

eBay / Re: Weird or Funny eBay Listings from March/April, 2013

Really, no inference? Then what was the "glass half empty/half full" inference all about?

It had to do with the FACT that half were still showing and half were not showing. Am I to INFER that you are looking to pick a fight?  Maybe you should be out drumming up an electrical contracting job.  ;D

I didn't say half gone, I was stating a fact when I said over half the ones I clicked on showed the removed message. :P

And I was stating a fact too. Half gone, half remained. Had nothing to do with any implication or inference.  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: There's nothing like that rush!

BMoney....

You are a PRIME candidate for a major meltdown. In your present state you might bid too high and get stung badly.

There a couple of folks on here who can relate to that.  In the beginning of this endeavor is the BEST time to go slowly.

There will always be more auctions. Your chasing the next "big one" is going to be a sad experience for you if you buy and buy and the satisfaction isn't there. Yes, it is like a drug....take control.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keeping your emotions in check

Got a question for you Cobia.  Do you follow the same thinking if you are bidding against a newbie who is not only serious about the auction business but clueless as to the value and happen to have a lot of money on them?  Or the bidder who either has no control and cannot think straight enough to stop bidding or the one who doesnt understand the value of a dollar, doesnt set a limit prior to bidding and obviously because of not setting a limit, will possibly keep bidding and bidding just to win the locker?

I see you did some research and found ONE of the anger/frustration threads.  Also, that's a lot of questions. Go to it Cobia !

971
Doesnt that make you incredible angry?  I know there is nothing you can do about it, but it still sucks.

You learn the bad places and you don't go back.

972
1)   SOME mgrs will let a tenant go in and take out stuff before the mgr lock goes on.

2)   Having done that (and knowing the tenant won’t be back) the mgr can go in and take whatever he wants.

3)   Or if the mgr knows a tenant has defaulted and not a chance in hell he’ll be back (jail, death, moved out  of              state) he can also get in and take whatever he wants.

4)  The mgrs are often there 24/7 and the gates are locked even to tenants after hours.

They have complete freedom to roam. If they are crooked there’s not much to
      stop them.

5)   Some states don’t require auctions. The mgrs having not been able to contact the former tenant can keep all the   stuff for themselves, sell the lkr outright to a regular buyer, etc.

There are all kinds of ways that bad things can happen.

Craigslist / Re: Top 10 Worst Craigslist For Sale Ads
« on: May 03, 2013, 01:48:47 PM »
AHA !  I found it.

Once I knew that it was Alloro and not Travis who had originally posted the pic I did another advanced search and found the original pic here.

http://storageauctionforums.com/general-auction-talk/recent-finds-from-an-auction-in-brooklyn/msg23470/#msg23470

Apparently Travis took a copy of it (I guess or super coincidense has set in) and put it his photobucket so he could use it more easily. On his photobucket it has a different name than the one used by Alloro.

What are you talking about, I thought it was hilarious. I didn't delete it...it's still here somewhere in the abyss of posts.

If you say so. I couldn't find it. If your source for the pic WAS the earlier post, then you know where you got it; if not your source, what a coincidence that you found the same pic somewhere out on the internet.

Geez, over half of the ones I've clicked on the visit this auction link come up with "This listing (XXXXXXXXXXXX) has been removed, or this item is not available.

That's because they were weird !

As regards the "over half" gone comment, remember the "glass half empty/half full" debate ?
