Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Ripoff auction
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:14:46 PM »
A unit with good stuff taken out doesn't mean something unsavory has taken place. Often times people make payment plans or other things and get let back into the unit. They then clear out the good stuff and either abandon the crap or plan on continuing to pay but fall behind again.

If you see a unit with like 5 locks on the ground this is what has happened. It doesnt mean the owner is stealing stuff just means the people may have taken their good stuff out.

Also, dont assume a box contains the electronics. Personally I throw boxes out right away but my parents have every tv box, computer box, etc they have ever bought.

I bought a unit with a nice 50" Phillips Plasma in the front. Everyone said there was no tv in the box, I guessed there was. Turns out there was. Paid $400 for the unit. Got $500 for the tv and still made a killing on the rest

I dont think you can really nail it down to one thing. I've had luck with nice organized units where everyting was in totes, electronics in origional boxes, etc. The whole if its taken care of its probably nice stuff thing does hold true.

In the same token sometimes the dirty, stuffed, unorganized units are great as well. Maybe grandpa got put into a nursing home and his niece, nephew, kids, etc just threw everything into storage and didnt bother to find his coin collection, silver, etc.

Stores / Re: How many "thrift stores" can a city support?
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:08:11 PM »
I'm seeing a lot pop up but also seeing a lot shut down. The ones in my area doing well are the ones that are unique and not just cheap run of the mill crap.

Unique could be more higher end items, more collectible items, etc.

I agree though, its not like a best buy vs circuit city vs radio shack where they all have the same junk. Every store is goign to have a pretty unique inventory.

Money Making Way #4...

Rent a submarine, go to the bottom of the ocean, cut off his fingers, sell them on ebay or at the flea market.

You have a very comprehensive list for a specific region I have a very sparse list for the whole country.

If someone wants to jump in head first and try to make a go of auctions full time your site is the way to go. If a newbie wants to just get their feet wet and check out an auction my site is a good place to go.

I agree to a truece, no hard feelings, lets move on.

I totally agree to a truce. I do occasionally do a search on ya for open questions and respond to them, it's normally complete newbies looking for any info whatsoever on how to get started on auctions.

For someone who wants to fill their entire day with auctions and really make a go of doing this full time I completely agree your site is the place to go to get a full auction schedule.

I guess it's kinda silly were fighting in that we aren't even competitors, which even if we were still kind of a childish back and forth were having.

I'm normally up late browsing the net and commngtingon youtube videos but I dont think I've gone out of my way to post comments abotu your articles if I have I apologize.

Personally I woudln't buy a list and I feel like I should be allowed to state that view, I will not go out of my way to tell others not to buy. Heck for a newbies probably isn't a bad idea buying a list for a week or even month just to get started and see if they like it and contiue buying. I do think its silly for a newbie to pay $150 or $200 for a year long list before they ahve even gotten their feet wet though.

Tc, I'm sure people on these boards have better topics to discuss than you and me bickering back and forth. Not even sure why this started except that for the past day or two every post of yours is a totally unrelated jab at me.

You seem to have a problem with people, I think you got into it with movieman, mr a and now I'm your target. You know what they say if you have a problme with one person maybe its them, if you cotninue having issues with person after person maybe you shoud look in the mirror.

I have never said anything negative about your or yoru site other than commenting on one thread that I woudln't buy a list but I have defended you guys in saying they are offering a service if you like it pay for it if you dont dont.

TC, there's more interesting things to discuss than backand forths with you and I.  Let's move on.

I'm opening a steakhouse, we provide you with 15 pounds of steak for your meal. Who cares, I'll be lucky if I eat one pound of steak so your not offering me anything additional or great by offering me 15 pounds of steak.

Not sure what your deal is tc. I've never taken jabbs at you or your site so not sure why you feel the need to take unrelated jabs at me in every post you post lately.

I think I commented on one thread about how I dont feel lists are necessary but have actually stuck up for you guys selling lists in saying that if people have a problem with price or anythign else don't buy it, no need to hate on you guys for trying to make a buck or offer a service.

What some peopel started picking on you for pestering people to buy your lists so now you wanna pick on someone too. I'm done with the back and forth with you tc, your not worth my time.

TC, get a life. People can request auctions for their city or state and they will be posted. No sense in updating 50 states daily if people aren't reading them.

Also, this site is free so it takes a whole 90 seconds of your time to browse an additional source for some auctions, and best of all, it costs NOTHING.

I'm not on these boards begging people to subscribe, there's about 25 subscribers, if you wanna subscribe great, if not don't.

I was questioning your idea of focusing on one city but its none of my business so I havn't said anything.

Your only doing Houston. Guess what, someoen may subscribe to your site for one month, they then start networking, get on lists and they no longer need you so after a relatively short time your going to burn through your whole client base.

You advertise that you have 25,000 auctions or whatever it is. Do you think anyone has that much time to attend 25,000 auctions per month lol. People generally are going to stock to a handful of auctioneers or a handful of nearby cities so you can advertise you have millions of auctions but it wont mattter to most.

In addition to Natinoal Holidays, Nobel Peace Prizes, World Peace, and Children not going Hungry we will all congregate here at 7:00 p.m. sharp on that day.

We will eat a virtual cake together and I've arranged for a webcam girl to put on a show for movieman. SHe's going to use the purple anal beads I found in a locker a few months ago.

Garage Sales / Re: My neighborhood sucks
« on: April 30, 2011, 03:07:47 PM »
jross your neighborhood is pretty cool if they are letting you have garage sales every weekend. Most in my area limit you to one per year.

I remember in a glendon video he said his neighborhood banned him from having anymore lol.

Drew, the secret garage sales not suckign is tell a buddy he can sell stuff it he brings it by. Pick up a case of Coors, set out some beanbag toss games and a tv in the garage. Watch a game, play some bags and hang out drinking beers with a buddy.

As for affiliate programs anyone find anything that can compete with adsense? Anything that requires signups I'm not that crazy abotu, prfer getting paid on clicks and impressions.

Oh one more thing, TC, your picture is very fitting if you catch my drift lol.

Wow, he actually didn't add his link to this thread. He must have forgot, allow me to do it for him.

Don't Pay For Storage Auction Listings
check out freestorageauctionslists.dum

TC your past 3 posts I've seen today have been trying to take a jab at me. What have I said to you? I havn't linked to any sites in a while.  ALso your attempting to take a jab at me on these threads have nothing to do with the thread either.

Mad that everyone was getting on you for pestering and harrassing people into trying your lists? Idont need to do that, if you wanna take a look take a look if not don't.

Are you upset people can go to sites to get info for FREE that you overcharge them for? I don't need to harrass people into looking at lists I post.

Good review, bag looks to bulky to me. Just means I'd lug more crap thru an auction than I need. But nice idea anyway.

Thanks ironman. Yeah it is a little bulkier than I thought it would be. I wanted smoething that was smaller than a backpack. This is definately smaller than a backpack but a little bulier than I thought it would be when I recieved it.

It is a little bit thicker than I would like but overall I'm pretty happy with it as a bag to carry when I dont wanna carry a backpack. I also like that it rests on your hip in addition to your back as I can keep my money in there and keep my eye on the bag and my hand over it although people would have to open a clip and 3 zippers to get to it anyway.

I also like the hip aspect of it in that its quicker and easier to throw off and fling into the car than taking a pack off.

If you like the concept of it there's also a pretty cool bag that seems a little smaller called the tactical hipster. I think they sell it on amazon. Both of tehse are under $25 last time I checked.

Voice recognitino is great, I can't believe how well it works as my previous experience was calling in fedex pickups and their voice recognition stuff sucsk but the phone is about 90% accurate for me.

I agree smart phones are not a be all end all for being at the auction. Most stuff is hidden. Does help if there's high end bikes or some high dollar items you can look up one of two things and maybe realize a price point at which you can  get in and at least be able to make your money back even if the rest of the unit is a bust.

Smart phones are better for other types of acutions where you either get an auction catalog or can look at things before then.
