Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #5...May, 2013
« on: May 02, 2013, 08:50:39 PM »
Went to a piece-by-piece auction that was a bust !  Usually get something there but this time the six lockers were all trash.  Wait, there was one 40" flat screen TV (forget the brand), no remote. I thought I would maybe pay $75 or so on a gamble ...went for $150. Too much gamble for it to even be working let alone sellable beyond that price. Maybe they wanted it for themselves.

Some folks (mostly newbies) say...."Why would they put it in a lkr if it wasn't working?"

My reply is basically..."Haven't you ever held on to some non-working item thinking one day you would either fix it yourself or get someone to fix it?"  I've found a fair amount of stuff in regular storage auction lkrs that fit that bill, maybe you have too.

Here in this area people pay up to the moment of the auction ALL THE TIME.

We "all" do it....place items on cList, but if you're just beginning to do it, maybe this article with some
suggestions will be of help.

Gotta love (or hate) crazy craigslist....

CNN has a good article with just a choice few of the craziest posts for 2012. They put this list out each year at the end of the year.

Nope, not sale items, but that's why this thread is in the DUMP....

But apparently you feel differently about stealing when it comes down to a $42 bridge fee that you never produce anything for but keep the money anyway?

I feel for you Mack, but posting in more than the 4 or so threads you already have is probably counter-productive now.
This thread for example is 1.5 years old. Glendon no longer posts here. Go to his profile and then click on his "posts" that will show you the last time and the times before that.

You are preaching to the choir here for the most part, though there are a few people here who do say he has benefitted them.

Edit:

I just checked his profile. His last post was late November, 2011 and he came online in early December, 2011 but did not post anything. He's gone (at least from here !)

I will continue to pursue the return of my money and hopefully warn off any who would trust this guy.

Sorry you had so much trouble. I could tell from watching 5 minutes of one of his videos that I didn't want anything to do with him, let alone send him money.

As far as getting your money back, good luck with that. Once a payment has gone through PayPal and other places it is sometimes living **ll getting it back. I know, I've been there too but with PayPal/eBay. Throw in your local bank for good measure and it can be a bureaucratic nightmare. One says something can be done, the other says no it can't and guess who is in the middle.

I think they had a goldmine with the original cast. Changing characters/cast members will probably kill the ratings and spell the end for the show. Then again, the producers are probably already seeing interest & revenue drop so that is why they are looking for less expensive cast members.

Hopefully these changes will drive Storage Wars & the storage auction business into the realm of "out of style" even quicker among average Americans.

Sounds right on all points...hopefully this will be the slippery slope to the end of the run.  I remember over the last couple of years when things got a little better (then a little worse) for us at the auctions that we kept predicting another 6 months or another year...maybe THIS will be the time it works out that way.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Managers in Sacramento
« on: May 02, 2013, 08:24:57 AM »
However, if this guy is accessing units before auction and removing items, I believe he and the managers are committing a crime and should be investigated & brought up on charges.

I can provide the info to an admin/moderator upon request.

I think if any crime is being commited it would be a manager selling him something before the unit goes up for auction, but I repeat my thoughts from several posts above. Involving police in this would be a non-winner. They don't have the time for this kind of thing for the most part.  In my area they won't even come to a traffic accident unless someone has been hurt or traffic is being obstructed.

I believe the best way to handle this is (as stated before) is for buyer's in the involved area (Leota and ncali) to put out the word to everyone they know at auctions. Peer pressure would shut any thievery down...managers don't want a bad rep.

Sure, it was easy to find him and anyone here could do it....even the moderators !  But when the guy is showing only two friends on Facebook and doesn't offer his goods on Clist (that I found) how much trouble does he need?  eBay classifieds is now at 97 items (May 2, 2013) and they are no great movers of goods IMO. I've sold one item on there in two years but it WAS a high-ticket item so proved worth the effort I sometimes put in.....even cList won't take some items depending on who is working at any given time.

Thought #1 - Why didn't the guy who posted this image of me crop it properly?Thought #2 - Why didn't I marry a guy who rides a Harley?

He thought it would give you something to comment on now that you can't post semi-nude pictures of fat people like you used to do before you owned the website. ;D

She looks pretty pensive in this pose.  What is she thinking?  Post your thought balloons below !

Here's one idea....."I wonder how much Dave Hester is REALLY worth?"

Note: That's YOUR thoughts on Brandi's THOUGHT balloons, not Brandi's actual balloons.  ;D

That's just about the entire cast !

Here's the story which was published today, May 1, 2013.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: The room from hell!
« on: May 01, 2013, 12:52:48 PM »
So, how much total time did you tie up cleaning out this unit?

Is the profit going to justify the work?

I don't know the answer to the first question (though off and on for 4 days or so seems about right), but I am pretty sure about the answer to the 2nd question.

That answer would be:  The value was in the lesson learned.
