No, I turned it over to the storage facility. It's pretty sad to think that someone's remains ended up in a 10' x 10' as their final resting place.

Gotta be honest, this whole scenario is just ridiculous. You're never going to grow your business wasting time on petty issues like this. Even if you're right, arguing back and forth with the buyer is going to get you nowhere, especially over an $11.99 item. The buyer wasn't being totally unreasonable, either. Next time, clearly state your return policies and give the buyer the refund.

Can you make money doing storage auctions?  It depends.  It's very possible if you buy smart, extract every last bit of profit from a unit, hustle your ass off and keep learning.  However, if you're lazy, unmotivated, unorganized and expect every $10 unit you purchase to hold a container of $10,000 magic beans in it, you're in for a long and costly road ahead.

The Family Circus - A couple who brings their three screaming kids to every auction.
The Big Dog - Always wears Sierra West Big Dogs t-shirts (AKA: Big Bill, who was on Auction Hunters).
The Brick Sh*thouse - About 5'6" but the stockiest dude you've ever seen.
Peanut Butter - Guy who bought a unit with a substantial amount of the stuff inside.
Ivan the Spectator - Has strong Eastern European accent, attends every auction but rarely bids.
Romeo y Julieta - Hispanic couple who are arm in arm the entire auction & never let go of one another.

Thanks dbr. Cobia: I thought it would go higher as well, but there was a small turnout at this auction. The 8 a.m. start time might have had something to do with it. Here is one of the Hallicrafters shortwave radios that I pulled from the unit:

So my winning bid was... $975.00.  I normally wouldn't have gone that high but the thick layer of dust is what drew me in.  You could tell that this unit had not been touched in a very long time.  Fortunately, my gamble paid off.  The large toolbox had mostly Craftsman, Snap On and Blue Point tools.  Further back was vintage CB and shortwave radio equipment, records, fishing gear & tackle, and even more tools and automotive parts.  I opened a box of glassware covered in newspaper, which was dated July 1989!  Pretty pleased with how this one turned out, minus the dust.

A little more info on the unit: It had been in storage for decades until the owner died.  And there was another visible tool chest towards the back.

I'd have to say yes.  Only purchased in two different states, but in general California does have some pretty decent lockers.  That being said, the competition here is pretty fierce.  If an epic unit comes up for sale, be prepared to duke it out with a large group of whales and drop a substantial amount of cash to win it.  That's at least how it is here in SoCal (Santa Barbara County to San Diego County).  Inland and Northern California may be different.

Since this sub-forum has been dead for some time, thought I'd share this purchase.  Got this 2002 Honda CBR929RR a few days ago for $375.00.  Needs some work to get it running, but even if I don't have it fixed, just parting it out should bring a nice profit.
