Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?
« on: February 04, 2012, 02:23:39 PM »
Haven't done much on Craiglist lately till this week and completed 3 sales with no problems at all. Hope to avoid the drama some of you talked about but probably won't. Got some more stuff to put on this weekend and maybe things will keep rolling. Good luck everyone.

Rainy day Thur, went to first auction with 30 bidders, prices remain reasonable for smaller units and high for large units. Picked up 2 units at this facility. Last two stops of Public Storage had 20 bidders but only 5 units, prices higher with this crowd, 200-300 for small interior units, didn't see it. Scored my first gold ring, new DVD player, bunch of great kids clothes/toys. Yardsales are huge in my area and this is great inventory.

Caught the last three stops of 6 facility caravan Friday. About 30 people there including all the regular faces. Saw about 20 units and prices were ok, not great not crazy. Got one at the last stop for $90.00. Had about 400 pieces of infant/kids/maternity clothes, wood dinette (keeper), toys, quilts/blankets and lot of misc. items. Great inventory for next yardsale, looking to clear $200-300 off this one.

11 units purchased
Total sales to Units cost ratio... 2.24
Total sales + Items Kept(resale value) to Units cost ratio... 3.74
Approx $900.00 remaining inventory

These numbers do not include any expenses.
9 units turned profit, 1 unit will turn profit, 1 unit will lose small amount
Best unit currently at 9x purchase price.

I wish this was all due to skill, but I had a lot of good luck and learned a lot this past 6 months.
Thanks to everone for sharing your experience with us newbies.
Happy New Year!

I have seen a couple $1 units bought. One of them had 2 garbage bags full of aluminum cans. I bought a $5 unit a couple months ago. $5 was the minimum and there were no bids, when auctioneer said last chance, I bid, he said sold in half a second. I kept a wine glass set (9) and some other kitchen goods, have about $30 worth of kitchen good to sell. Took 10 min. to clean out, as everything of value was in 2 boxes and all I could see was something glass in them.

Paid $250.00 for a full 10x10. I usually target units @ $150.00 and below because they are smaller units to move and been profitable.

WOW! I went to an auction this morning, 7 total units @ 2 facilities, and 50 bidders with 100 total people. I did win the 1st unit, 25.00, with a stack of coated wire closet shelving, twin halogen lights on tripod, gardening tools and a boat oar. Think the oar will make a great paddle to spank some ass. I'll be keeping all of this stuff.

My wife collects all types of glassware. I got a beautiful brand new lidded candy dish from a unit she wanted bad. I told her I had to sell this and put a price on it. She had to look at it for 2 months until I gave it to her full of candy. Still chuckle at the look she gave me, as I was never going to sell it.

Garage Sales / Winter Yard Sales in Southeast
« on: December 26, 2011, 01:25:56 PM »
For those of you in the southeast, do you have yardsales in the winter months? We get many sunny 50 degree days that would be nice yardsale weather to me, but don't see alot of them. Thinking about watching weather and picking a good Saturday, put ad on Craiglist couple days before, road signs and see what happens. If anyone does this, how was it?

Hope everyone had a merry Christmas. That is a cool list MM. Being from the Middle TN area, I can comfirm the population growth here, new homes going up all over. Better yet, new storage facilities going up also, including a big facility about 5 miles away from my house. Will be attending first auction in over 3 weeks on 28th, very busy at the Post Office. Happy New Year everyone.

Yet, these are the same people that will clip coupons for five hours to save 1 dollar on groceries though. I just don't get that mentality.

If you clip 5 hours to save a dollar you arn't doing it right. Couponing saves us 300-400 a month.

Nice find! Good luck with the selling.

craig...I had the same issue with undervaluing items before I researched them. Now I always look it up before I even tell people what I found. Luckily I didn't burn myself, but it would be easy to do.
